This is me jumping back into the CAAA with rambling about stuff with my characters...


So I finished this a while ago but never actually posted it... I've kinda been in a weird spot life wise. But I realized my Maks (now Maxx for a ton of reasons) didn't actually have a custom ref. Of course I haven't finished the full ref itself, there are parts of his neck that don't show here in this pose and I could see it leading to some potential for a mistake on his design if I ever can afford art of him again. Maxx is super super important, enough that I actually used him to draw a gift for my mom with and I've been planning a little story with him. He and a corgi go on adventures and such, I have a couple ideas and plan to eventually write them down. He has a lot of meaning too me which is why I still draw him and doodle him a couple years later so it was time that he got something custom made by me and finished.

Maxx is a double merle who is blind due to improper breeding. The idea of him came up after I met a deaf and blind double merle and did a photography project about her and her story. I love dogs, always have, and I fell in love with this dog particular. I loved aussies but didn't want to make a "normal" aussie and Maxx happened when I just decided to color an aussie lineart one night xD But his lovable personality came from a dog we had recently lost then. A couple of his markings are based from real pets too. I've recently become involved with an organization for deaf dogs who put a lot of emphasis on double merle dogs and education, so I've kept this attachment to him for a lot of reasons. The name change is simply because since I first made him we adopted another dog that my family chose to name Maxx. It was fitting to include the name since it was already similar anyways.

Teeko on the other hand got a slight addition to his design for a couple reasons. He has an ability to shift into a canine, one for getting more art and cause I was better at drawing canines, but also because he's a magic creature anyways and likely has a ton of different forms just because he's adventurous and loves any sort of trick and game he can play.

I've actually made a couple of new characters recently too.


Kelor is a striped hyena, and the hair style is totally not supposed to be like Teeko at all >.> Maybe a little. These two are actually my first two true anthro based on real animals characters and I actually have not drawn much of them before either. Kelor is basically my exact opposite... He's excitable, he's outgoing, he loves attention and is flashy. And his home life had a lot of problems which mine didn't. He's a bit similar to Teeko in that he loves social activity, and he's somewhat of a release for writing or drawing something I'm not. I'm introverted and I am not "normal" by any social means. I've often been considered simply shy when there's more going on. But there are moments, not all the time, where I wish I could be that outgoing person and confident in myself but I'm just not and I don't truly want to change who I am. Writing a character doesn't exactly make up for my social shortcomings but it does in fact help me feel better myself.

Nate is a grumpy snow leopard cop I made after I watched Zootopia. I'm really proud of his picture. There's more development to him but this post is far too long and I don't think anyone will read it as it is but it was really nice to write some stuff out anyways. At least posting here again.

I've also been working on the leopard's family, and something of Kelor which I am going to attempt to actually make a new poster for my room with. Or at least my family wants something xD.

How long have you been a member of CAAA? Have you seen any artists improve while here?
It's been quite a while. I think since version 9... It's been a long time for me. I've had a couple of characters the whole time. Maks/Maxx being one of the first that I showed here. As well as Teeko, the little orange guy in my sig, who I first drew in 2013 during school. He was my relaxing and nobody can tell me he's done wrong character because he's made up. But I haven't posted much really in the bigger picture, maybe a couple times a thread and missed one or two in the middle. I've shared some stuff I don't care at all for anymore and some characters that still mean quite a bit, but I don't really think I've shared a ton of like... development about them cause I was never sure if anyone would actually read it.

I joined the thread as Kyle. As far as watching other artists improve, I can't recall any specific names right off but I know there's been a couple people where I noticed a change in style. And an envy of said improvement. I think I've improved some but not nearly how much I would have hoped. There's some things that I'm super proud of and others just not so much.

If you could, what 1 character would you pick if you had the ability to make them real? and why?
Honestly it's either Maxx or Teeko. Most of me actually says Teeko despite his love for swiping shiny stuff from your room. He's fun, he's cute, he's small. I always imagined him as having soft fur, and not skittish at all. I do tend to decide how petting my characters would feel. The sneaking and swiping behavior can be trained out of him. ;) I think he'd be fun and he's small enough to go places, plus he's all mine too. He'd be a one of a kind. Plus, bluueeee! I love the color blue.

All the art I shared in this post was done by me, and the characters are mine. I'm still trying to figure out how to get art of my characters when I have zero money xD.

@the advert discussion, we have tried to implement new rules before, but the issue is that not everyone in the group will be happy with a decision tbh. i remember that wes tried to implement some stricter rules a while ago... i think in v.14/v.15 ? loads of people were unhappy about it, so we went back to less strict rules. but, yeah, coming up with a solution that everyone - especially in such a big group - will be happy with is p much impossible. the most we can do is compromise
asking more questions is a good way to try and create more discussion - streams seem to be good for it too !
idk i think only reposting an advert every 12/24 hours is just gonna be difficult and tiring to try and make sure that is whats happening. whenever i wake up, usually 5 pages have passed, so seeing the 5 page rule is actually a lot easier [although with exams and all, i cant really be moderating here that much until i am free from exams oops]
it doesn't even really have to be that big of a change - just maybe write a reply to more people than 3 when reposting ads, maybe just try to delve a bit deeper than "oh, that character/art is cute" [which tbh is a struggle sometimes] or perhaps answering questions w/ more detail... maybe joining streams more often or PMing people to discuss characters [obviously if you're comfortable w/ doing that c:]

im just gonna do brief descriptions bc lynt alone has a 1500 personality so. yeah
-lynt: p grumpy teenager. hes fairly antisocial but does enjoy being around some people. he can definitely be argumentative, but, overall, is a good person. a grumpy person, yes, but a good one. he has a demon side [who tbh i feel like is just sassy 90% of the time... but then again lynt is also sassy 99% of the time so]
-kidd: slightly younger brother to lynt who has a tendency to be p immature at times. although notably still not the most social, kidd is more willing to socialise than lynt [as well as being p socially awkward oops]. he has fire powers !
-hiroaki: the literal know-it-all pikachu from the future. he can be p smug and... well he literally knows everything. hes fairly reserved
-danny: a comedic and loyal shapeshifter. tends to be over-reactive and gets anxious extremely easy, but is always there to comfort a friend. he loves making bad puns that make all of his friends facepalm
-emily: older sister to danny. a v sassy shapeshifter who can definitely be comedic. shes probably the most independent and is also the most likely to stand up for herself !

What do you think multiple fursonas?

im completely fine w/ multiple sonas [well seeing as i have 5 i would have to be wouldn't i cx]

-kidd and danny's [and lynt and danny's] friendship and closeness is p much what im like to my best friend. idk a lot of my online friends sonas and mine actually dont get along tbh so whoops
-id feel as if it would be a bit... lonely to have one sona ? idk as someone who only gets to see my one friend once per week i know how much it sucks to well not have anyone to talk to/be with sometimes. so idk i didnt want my sonas to be lonely
-some of my sonas have traits which dont necessarily fit me, and so my others who dont share said trait counteract w/ this

my sonas are all pretty similar in some senses, but...
-lynt: generally the more grumpier, pessimistic, and antisocial part of me :p
-kidd: that part of me which is just more light-hearted and child-like
-hiroaki: my intelligence and reservedness, as well as how others react/perceive me as
-danny: the comedic and loyal part of me, as well as the over-reactive/anxious part
-emily: shes more of who i want to be [independent, standing up for myself, etc.], but also parts of me at the same time

oh man ive seen loads of artists improve - especially considering its been nearly 4 years ! i cant recall any off the top of my head, but i definitely know that artists here have been improving ;v;

tbh my sonas are nerds lets face it
ackdan, nirosh, and zadiia are definitely nerds [chemistry nerd, technology nerd, and literature nerd]
and then khazir... he likes to think he's cool but he's really not tbh

Do you have a certain goal of 'development' for your characters? Like a certain amount of art or a certain amount of writing? A form you fill out for all of them?

i have a few that are kinda all over the place
-getting 100 pieces of art for each of the fanstuck characters [yes. that's right. 100 pieces. some of them are quite close to the goal actually tbh]
-getting them all nice refs
-each of my ocs getting at least 5 pieces of art !

uh i realise this may mean for one specific character oops. in that case:
-theres always the basic fleshing out/writing their personality part and their history
-reasons for their behaviour. how would they react in this situation? what are their strengths? weaknesses?
-how do they interact w/ other ocs? [if applicable]

i super love delving deep into my ocs development, so i always love making it needlessly complicated and finding all of these reasons and small links

What do you do AFTER you reach that goal, after you feel you've 'developed' the character. Do you just leave them at a standstill? Do you keep your characters/their development fluid?

tbh i don't really finish developing a character ? there's always more to develop [for me anyway] and more reasons to think of and more headcanons to create... oops

How do you represent your characters on a site/ toyhouse/folders? Do you just put refs as the preview,do you use icons? Buy (or draw) tags?

for my sta.sh, i use their refs [if applicable - if not, just their most recent piece of art]
for my weebly, i like to use drawn icons !

which character do you own is the most like you personality-wise?

apart from my sonas.... its hard to say bc a lot of my ocs have some traits that i do
i think it would be a tie between duveki and nirosh bc i once made an oc quiz w/ 6 of my ocs + 6 of my friends and i got them

Has there ever been a character that you hated? Why?

well that depends in which way
my preference for designs/ocs differs from other peoples which is to be expected haha
there are some characters who i lOVE as characters.... like i love their development, but if they were real people i'd probably hate them

How do you come up with names and personalities for each character?

names..... idk
sometimes i literally just mash keys together
personalities, however, are generally a great deal easier
one thing i love to do is just look at personality traits and apply them to ocs
as time goes on, some new ones will surface, some will be gotten rid of, some will change and some will stay the same

@entire conversation I am leaning with dragongoddest on this one cause I do see it. It can be sort of disheartening if you let it get to you and makes you not want to comment. I know I always made it a mission to comment on everyone after my last post, but even then i wouldn't get much feed back or anything to keep a conversation going, so i just copied everyone else and commented on 2 or 3 people. But then I see that people actually do see you in the streams. Maybe if everyone wasn't so afraid to comment something? It would make it better. I feel the problem isn't so much what people are doing. I think its more what are they saying to each other. ITs more a change that would have to happen mentally more than anything.

Definitely make more art. I really wish i could get some money to get them drawn, but I haven't had the luxury of finding a job like i wanted to.

What do you think about multiple Fursonas?
Well for me they would be Aliensonas. And I think they are pretty convenient. For example I have my main one Naos Rain who is what my username is based off of X'D And she is basically me and what I wish I could be creature wise. Then I have Nebula who I might make my CS mascot, because she fits in more and is easier to draw quickly. She is still like me and basically (is Naos since I made it so Naos turns into her when she enters the CS realm so :'D) a second Aliensona. I only made Naos turn into her cause I wanted to use them both. But they are basically two separate beings.
What is your favorite type of YCH?
I like ones with multiple characters in it. Just because I like to imagine how they all interact and hang out. c:
Do you have a fursona? Tell us about them!
Naos (linked above) is a derp like me and pretty much what I wish I could turn into to one day. She has the ability to create different universes for people like an author or an artist creates different mental universes. She isn't super powerful or anything. She travels to the universes in search of friendship and she is, for the most part, on her own and alone. She travels head first into everything and shoots across the sky like a star does. She leaves a trail of star dust when she is shooting as fast as she can through the universes and enjoys making friends from wherever she goes. She is a Star Beast and there aren't many like her. So she has to find her own adventure and friends.

Nebula is a sweet little girl until you scorn her. She used to care a lot about what people thought about her, and didn't want anyone to think badly of her, but she realized that people can be heartless and cold, so she shouldn't waste her energy trying to make everyone and everything happy and like her. So she just keeps close to the ones who do and don't let others ruin it for her. She loves to draw and loves to dance (badly). She is terrible at defending herself and relies on the friends she has made to stand up for her, but if someone tries to mess with her friends she is ready for war. Even if the friends aren't at all.

Multiple sonas?

Well I have three. Two fursonas and a persona.
Jedi, my fursona, is my main, and he represents me when I'm around friends and happy.
LOCW is more reserved and represents me around strangers.
Evan, the persona, represents my anxieties and fears.

I love them all and wouldn't give them up for anything!
