Joel is a control freak. Hence the name 'Tyrant'. He is of relatively high status- a sort of professor/inventor/scientist, and things always must be done his way, or things don't end up well. Joel is not afraid to fight back or say what's on his mind. As a person, he is very stubborn and demanding. He doesn't have many friends as a result. That fazes him more than most people think it should... Breakdowns are common, out of frustration and loneliness. There are moments where he is softspoken and kind, but those are rare. Affection is just as rare. You're lucky to get a pat on the head.
History-
Joel was not poor as a child, but was often verbally and mentally abused. He was always told he would amount to nothing and was useless. This played a huge part in his issues now, and why he is such a competetor and so stubborn. Failing is his worst fear because of this. He spent his teenage years holed up in a messy room trying to prove somehow that he wasn't useless. There were many breakthroughs, but none satisfied him. So he left his hometown and came to the secluded City of Ashes, and is now holed up in his house where booms and cracks are common.
