Is not really like there teams are made of two males an a female. Usually they are made in teams of three, from there one of those three either is good with medical ninjutsu or has medical knowledge. It just happen to be mostly girls in Naruto world. If you take a peek, there are Hinata in her team, Ino in her team, Sakura in her team, Tenten might have some too.

Now for normal missions it would be the three chunin/genin plus their sensei, but there are special missions where you can make bigger groups. From my point of view, smaller groups than three would be ok, but bigger than three for normal missions could be hard to play
