He kinda of like this

I don't know why but I find it normal for my beta fish, He the only one who change color we got him like that but then at night you don't see that shiny body and neon color it wil be like a dark blue which I find it cool, it a bit hard to explain, he healthly, I just need clean his tank today, I will be cleaning his tank right now, Oh I forgot he kind of old, I had him before King, we got him when he was fully grown, we got king when he was like almost fully grow. No one knows both of their ages though, not even the petstore that we got them from

Hey there!
I am possibly interested in buying some fish to keep as pets, and had some questions to be asked.
1: I'm looking to keep a small tank, so what kind of fish/what quantity could be kept in a 2.5 gallon tank? What about a 5 gallon?
2: What kind of equipment does the above-mentioned fish types/quantity require? (Heater, live plants, filter size, etc.)
3: Would I be able to purchase the live fish at a pet store? (Petsmart/Petco most likely)
4: What would the estimated cost be?

1. In a 2.5 or 5 gallon tank you'd only really be able to keep a betta. If you're new to fish it would probably be the best option as bettas are easy to look after.
2. You'll need a heater and a filter. Live plants are optional but some are really easy to look after and fish appreciate them. If you go with live plants you'll also need lighting. Make sure you cycle your tank before you put any fish in it. You can read about cycling
here3. Yup yup but be careful about where you buy them from. Some shops don't take good care of their animals.
4. Depends on where you live and how fancy you want to go. You can use a plastic storage container as a fish tank if you really wanted but it wouldn't be pretty. You could get it really cheap if you found one second hand too.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

Just a quick statement: make sure to get a lively fish if you buy from either Petsmart or PetCo. Try to make sure their water isn't super dirty as well - dirty water can often mean unhealthy fish. Look for a betta that reacts to stimuli (such as putting your finger near the cup), and one that does not have ripped fins, faded colours (this rule only applies to some bettas, but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to tell faded from natural markings), laying very still at the bottom or the top, or in any way looks especially unhealthy.
I'd search up stores that specialize in fish near you if you want to be sure to find a healthy betta. They often keep much better care of their fish as well as have a wider selection of species and colours. While their prices can be slightly higher, their colours tend to be more spectacular and the fish are far healthier from the get-go.

Thank you both for your input!
Just a couple more questions;
After a quick internet search, dwarf gouramis caught my eye. What would you consider to be an acceptable tank size for one? What equipment would one require?
Other than that, what beginner fish would you recommend that are able to be kept in a small tank?

I'd say 10 gallons minimum if you want to keep dwarf gouramis. I believe they'd require the standard filter, heater, and possibly a bubbler.
When you say 'small tank', what do you mean? The smallest tank for a large variety of fish options would be 10 gallons. Anything smaller should really be reserved for bettas alone. If you want a smaller tank with a betta and some ghost shrimp or a snail, I think that'd be acceptable, but nothing more.

The thread has been transferred over to PeachFuzz, so if anyone has questions that need to be directed at the thread owner you can message them~
I'll hopefully be able to get some pictures of my new divided ten gallon betta aquarium tomorrow to share here; the two of them don't seem to mind being neighbours and I think the aquarium ended up looking really pretty.

I would be open to a 10 gallon. What would my options be for a tank that size?
