Squirrelpaw licked a wound on her shoulder, still sitting guard at the entrance to the nursery. She was a bit suspicious that Ashpaw was missing, and a bit worried. She decided to go check up on Dustpaw. Squirrelpaw padded into apprentice den and walked over to his nest, "The foxes are gone Dustpaw, and Bone is dead."

Fernstar looked at Threeleg with a pained expression. "But the next gathering is only in a couple of days, what will the other Clans think when I turn up with no deputy?" She mewed before her eyes widened at his words. "I don't want to believe it, but I know you're right, Threeleg. But what happens when Bramblewhisker heals and I have to tell the temporary deputy to step down again?" She asked the medicine cat, searching for his guidance.

Threeleg looked at Fernstar. He understood her pain. "Make it clear to the Clans that we are not weak, and prepared to fight if they set paw over the border." He mewed before shuffling his paws. "If they are a good warrior, they will understand and step down without a problem." The medicine cat replied, hoping he was helping the leader in such a difficult time.

Juniperfrost looked at the deputy as he stirred. "Did I wake you? I didn't mean to." She mumbled as she touched her nose briefly with his. She hoped she hadn't woken him, and that he'd just woken as his dream had ended, as that had been the opposite of what she'd been trying to do. She smiled at him and had to force her tail not to curl around his, and instead curled it around her own paws.

Sparrowpaw looked at Berrypaw and nodded. "Give me a second and I will join you." He mewed, suddenly brought to the awareness of his exhaustion. He turned to Goldenpaw nevertheless. "Could you stay with Sorrelkit until Fernstar comes out of the medicine den? I don't want her leaving camp but I equally don't want her in camp alone when Fernstar finds her." He asked the medicine cat apprentice kindly.

Aquilo pulled his eyes up and nodded to Robin, padding away from the Clan, glancing back once more to try and spot his sister, but she must have been in one of the dens as he didn't see her. "Come on then." He mewed quietly until they were far from the Clan. Then he looked at the other loner and shook his head. "I don't know. Maybe we can follow that cobble path. I haven't been beyond it before." He suggested, still in a quiet voice. The grey tabby just didn't feel like it was appropriate to make polite conversation like they hadn't just seen their ally die.

Bone closed his eyes, the last thing he saw being a flash of pity in the warrior's eyes and a low hiss being the last he heard. Then a single squeak escaped him before everything was quiet. He was in darkness for a short moment before a foggy, dark forest surrounded him and he knew exactly where he was, but felt at peace.

Blueheart stood with his nose burrowed in Snakefangs fur for a little longer before he stepped away. He looked at Foxstrpe for a few seconds before he walked away to his nest to sleep. This day had been horrible and he just wanted it to be over. He knew that there would probably be a clan meeting soon but he intended to atleast get some sleep before the meeting.

Dustpaws tear filled yellow eyes met Squirrelpaws "I know, well atleast the first part" he mewed looking away again "Why did he do this?" he asked even though he knew that his den mate would not have the awnser. "What did he gain from it?" he the added with a lower voice. "Were you not scared?" he then asked her looking back into her eyes in worry, was he the only apprentice that had been scared, why was no one else feeling like he was right now.

Squirrelpaw lay down beside the brown apprentice. "Every battle is driven by fear, everyone is afraid, they just try not to show it, they try and put on a brave face." she sighed, "I was scared, scared that I wouldn't be able to protect the kits and queens. Scared I couldn't save them."

Robin nodded, though hearing his friend's subdued voice caused his former feelings of anticipation to dwindle. "Alright," he mewed. The red tom walked slowly next to Aquilo, head down, though ears still pricked. He couldn't let his mind settle on recent events. Even though Robin had just witnessed his former ally die, he couldn't let himself fully mourn. Growing up as a loner in a Twoleg place, Robin had been exposed to loss from a young age, and mourning meant you were more of a target. He'd seen alley cats murder each other there, and dogs were no better. In life or death situations, Robin himself had come close to killing. He'd become hardened to it over time.
A rustling in the leaves behind him startled Robin and he turned, only to see a bird fly away through the forest. He relaxed, though only slightly. He couldn't help but imagine if the bird had been something else... What if Fernstar sends a patrol after us? To make sure we never come back? The two loners were likely no better than rogues in CloverClan's eyes now. And if Robin heard right about there being other clans in the area... Would Fernstar alert them as well?

Foxstripe nodded to her leader, her amber eyes soft. "Very well, Maplehawk, Bearpelt. Let's go." She heaved the deceased warrior onto her shoulders, wincing weakly as she realized that Snakefang was heavier than she had expected. She dipped her head to Fernstar, Blueheart, and Threeleg, and disappeared with the other warriors into the forest.

Bramblewhisker yawned once, then shook his head. "No you didn't wake me. But if you were trying to, is there something you would like to tell me?" His pale green eyes glowed as he looked at Juniperfrost.

Fernstar stared at the medicine cat. "But we aren't fit enough to fight again! We have a warrior dead and half of the Clan is severely injured!" Then she sighed, looking at the medicine cat painfully. "I'm sorry Threeleg, you're right. We should be ready to fight for our territory at any moment." Then she nodded at his words. "But what if they aren't good enough? What if they rebel against us when I tell them to step down?"

Threeleg looked at Fernstar. He knew how hard it must be to see the Clan like this. "It's quite alright." He dipped his head at her apology before looking straight at her. "Tell he or she to talk some sense. If they don't, exile them. If they declare war, convince the other Clans that Bramblewhisker is the right choice. There's bound to be one Clan that will agree with you."

Juniperfrost sighed in relief. Then she looked at him with wide eyes. "Well, I.. I guess there is something.." She mewed, taking a breath. "I.. I like you, Bramblewhisker.. And I think I might even.. Like like you.." She whispered softly, feeling as if a weight had been taken from her shoulders.

Aquilo looked up as the bird squawked and flew away. The bristling fur on his shoulders lay flat again. "So, what's the Twolegplace like?" He asked, forgetting his previous feelings towards polite small talk. The silence made the grey tom uncomfortable, and it had to be broken.
