Day 8 (Afternoon)/Veneficus/156/Where: Eldin Volcano Crater/With: The GroupVeneficus took heavy breaths as he led the group up Death Mountain. It had been a long and tiring journey, but he knew that it was all about to be worth it. Veneficus took in the surrounding atmosphere in all it's glory. Clouds loomed below them, forests stretched for miles, and the smell of minerals and earth filled the air. He pondered momentarily about how the events of the past few days had led to this moment in time. It was a brief moment of thought, but the sheer amount of depth in his reflection of what led to this caused it to feel longer.
~~
(
This is the summary for those of you who are behind btw)Veneficus had only been adventuring with this group for about 2 days now, but they had been on the adventure itself for a week. Some of them had only known each other for as long as Veneficus did, and some of them had known each other since childhood. Zephyrus had brought the Sword of Wisdom right to Veneficus when he met them at Castle Town after their return from Gregal's Mansion. It seemed like a completely convenient coincidence at the time, but Veneficus was sure now that it was the Goddesses' hands in fulfilling the prophecy.
Despite just meeting him, the group agreed to help him find the remaining two swords, one of which was lost 100 years in the past, and one of which was stolen by his apprentice who was banished to the Twilight Realm. Amazingly, the group successfully traveled to the past to acquire the Sword of Courage that had apparently been stolen by a band of pirates, but only at the cost of Sapphire's sister's life. They returned to the present and, after staying in Castle Town awhile longer, headed for Death Mountain.
Veneficus was always one to procrastinate, and getting distracted was a common excuse for that. On the way to Eldin Volcano, or Death Mountain as it's sometimes called, Veneficus and the group stopped in a small desert town to rest. It seemed insignificant at the time, but they ended up overhearing some nearby Bordix plotting to obtain a Dragon Skull to create a weapon of mass destruction. After getting his group of adventurers back out of bed just as they sat down, they all managed to find the Dragon Skull underground right as one of the Bordix men found it. They managed to stop the Bordix man at the cost of Guzore getting a minor stab wound, but two strange Shiekah sisters showed up seemingly out of nowhere and took Shinceon as a slave in exchange for the Dragon Skull. Veneficus decided to lead the group on to Eldin Volcano the next morning without Shinceon, hoping they'd find him again sometime.
After fighting a Stoner at the base of Eldin Volcano, Veneficus led the group into a cave inside Eldin Volcano that led them to peak. Below them was Pyralto, a mining-based city that extracted various ores and minerals. Ahead of them was a pipe that led to the center of the volcano, where the portal was.
(This is the point where Veneficus' narration of the past ends and we return to the present)As Veneficus and the group walked through the pipe, he began to explain to them how the portal was opened. He climbed up the ladder, and to his utmost surprise, the portal was...
...already open.
What followed next was a loud and deep roar that echoed through the portal. It shook the pipe that the others were still in, causing some of them to question if everything was alright. Veneficus recognized the roar, despite it being over sixty years since he had last heard it.
Sebastian... he said, feeling chills go down his spine.
Guzore shouted up at Veneficus, who stood completely still, half-way up the ladder.
Veneficus, brother, are you all right? he hollered up at him.
Who's Sebastian?Veneficus snapped out of his trance and looked down at Guzore.
Well... he's the dragon warrior who killed all but one of the others many years ago... the one who was banished to the Twilight Realm. Veneficus said with a serious tone of voice.
I fear that he may have realized the portal is open once he sensed my presence near the other side.Guzore was silent for a moment, but then smiled and pumped his fists together.
Heh, that's no problem! We can take him! Guzore said enthusiastically.
Veneficus chuckled.
Ah, it's always refreshing to witness such a hopeful and optimistic spirit. You remind me of myself as a young adventurer. Veneficus said. His voice made it clear that he was nostalgic about something.
It'd be foolish of me to doubt you. If anyone can defeat him, it's you guys. The pipe shook once again as the portal began to buzz loudly. Small bits of twilight shot out of it and began materializing into a shape above the pipe, casting a shadow.
Although, I feel that it would be important to mention something about Sebastian the dragon warrior. Veneficus said as the mass of twilight particles grew larger and larger.
Once he took my sword, it had a certain affect on his... well, physical state. Veneficus said nervously.
What's that supposed to mean? Guzore asked.
The black mass of twilight particles in the sky took a final shape and lit up from their usual black state into a dark grey texture with red veins coursing throughout. The creature, about as large as a Castle, turned it's neck so it's glowing red eyes stared straight into the pipe Veneficus and the others were in. It's massive wings, lit up by the red-hot lava, hovered over the volcano crater.
...Yeah, he's kind of a dragon.
...
Following the dragon's entrance, several other creatures materialized out of twilight particles on the mirror...
