Do you have a specific way of laying out signatures or do your signatures have a unique layout for each individual one?
Ooooh boy, feels like forever since I've posted here. I don't really have any one layout or design I always stick with, but my sigs that are more medium in complexity have a more similar layout. I just kind of go with whatever comes up and do what I think looks good on the fly. Pre-planning and going layouts for anything hasn't always worked well for me.

i like it canada, though it's a bit off on my screen. for example between the two images of the cheetah
on the right, there's a large space between them. i'm not sure if it's meant to be that way or not... the
bio on the right is also messed up, but other than that it's a lovely signature. this is what it looks like for
me, if that helps. also i love the color scheme a lot, that maroon color is one of my favorite colors.
can i have some feedback on my new signature? i'm feeling pretty good about it, but i feel like there
is a lot of space on the right... i'm sort of liking it but at the same time i feel like it looks too empty.
thanks! <33

nope, i don't really. i mean, i guess for each of my signatures i use left columns but eh, doesn't
almost everybody? it's much easier for me, when i put the columns as .
but mostly all of my signatures are different and unique in their own individual way. c:

jyushimatsu. wrote:just a small question, how would a joint (partner/group) signature shop work and function? is it hard, or is it easy? i'm considering joining or opening one; i'm just not sure where to join one or how to create one.
From observation I have seen two types of signature shop being opened of joint operation.
The first one I am going to call Connected
The connected signature shop works like this:
- All the posts on the front page run in a similar code style.
- All in the shop make signatures that look similar.
- The price for all signatures made is the same, and therefore the product given out are the same.
- The credit link is linking back to the thread rather than the person who made it.
The second type is what I call Segregated, which this type seems to work like this:
- Each post made by that person is allowed to be customly designed by that person.
- Prices are not the same, it is purely up to the individual artist
- Signatures are allowed to be in different style, purely up to the artist.
- The credit link is often to the post of the artist or the artist themself other than the thread.
These types have positives and negatives. I am going to type out the pros and cons from my own observation. If I miss some, please feel free to add more.
Pros and cons for Connected wrote:Pros include:
- Artists are treated equally and there won't be demand for more artist. This means each artist will be given a turn to making a signature and so each person have a piece of the pie to make signatures.
- Each artist is given the same amount of payment, which goes back to the artists treated equally situation.
Cons include:
- As an artist, you will need to stick to the style of the thread, meaning you can't really experiment with signatures.
- The flat rate pricing might not seem like a lot to you, but you will need to talk to all of the members of the thread about things before things are sorted.
- If you are looking to break out and become popular, you are better off going into a Segregated signature shop. If you are making a signature, your name kind of blurs into the signature shop.
Pros and cons for Segregated wrote:Pros include:
- For artistic freedom for each artist in the creation of the signature.
- Besides the rules of the thread, anything is up for self customization.
- Independence.
Cons include:
- There will always be one artist who gets more business than someone else. This is something that cannot be helped, it just will happen.
- You can end up being in competition with your fellow thread artists due to style, popularity, and cost to make each signature (Cheaper tends to mean more business) and this can cause drama down the line.
- The workload is specifically towards one artist, so no other artist can pick up the slack. This leads to artists becoming overwhelmed and not finishing commissions.
I hope that this ended up helping somehow. I am not proclaiming this info to be the be all end all, there can be other things I have missed out on adding in, but this is from memory as of right now. Also apologies for spelling mistakes, I am currently at the doctors.
----------
Personally, if you do connected it is harder to operate I would imagine. You need to talk to all people in cahoots of the signature shop when decisions need to be made. On top of that, you can't really go off and do your own thing. It can be stressful in that area.
Segregated is more lenient in the above, but it puts more responsibility on yourself rather than anyone else in the thread. This also means the chance that someone could be buried and the work load be a ton more of stuff on it. It can cause so many problems from this angle as well.
Overall, running a signature shop in itself is hard to do, doing a joint one is harder.
I am on mobile.

Do you have a specific way of laying out signatures or do your signatures have a unique layout for each individual one?
I like to consider the fact that all my signature's have a unique-ish layout. Basically,
I resize/crop the images first, then add quotes, and then the written info (like the
bio and all). My signature's range however, depending on the amount of images and
stuff.
@jyushmatsu
I am both in my own sig shop and in a joint sig shop. Like Zey said, there are a lot
of pros and cons. If you want to join one, then you probably should look around
the coding shop area, as some coding shops are probably accepting new people
to work in there shop. They may or may not have a worker form ready. If they
don't, then you probably have to PM them. If you want to make your own, then
you either have to make it in an early time, and ask people to join, or ask people
to join before hand (usually people you know, like your friends)
@can-can
your sigs are always very lovely, and this one is no exception. smol sigs are good
sigs, and I love how the pixels are rotating! The pixels themselves are also very
cute. the small bird dingbat is super cute, and I have a weakness when it comes
to small images in sigs. I also love the quote, as it matches with the almost
monochrome sigs (I also love monochrome sigs ;3c)

Oh, I haven't posted here in a long while. Oh my.
Everyone's signatures are looking really awesome! Love your short but long sig,
Canada, it's really pretty! And the little "CAN" like, I know it's part of a quote
but it's also like part of your name which is really clever. Storm Coming, your
signature is also really pretty, with the coding and the colours, all nice and tidy
in a square formation. To be honest, I wasn't really expecting orange to work so
well with blue, but the ocean colours really do match the sunset orange colours.
Para, I can't forget about you. Your little.. Hinata is her name? signature is just
too cute. And Jyu, your sig with the colours is amazing, and I really love the format.
Are you going to be adding something under the text box? Because it would look really
awesome then, if you did. Not like it doesn't look amazing already, it really does.
Geeko just STOP. I don't even know what that sig is about but now you make
me want to figure it out. Something about a play or something. But damn,
that coding though, it's really amazing. And Zey, master of gifs, your
coding is perfect even with the use of mobile, how the hell did you
even do that.

Boot and I run a co-ed signature ship ("segregated," as Zey described it) - though our prices are extremely similar and we've "known" each other for longer; the communication isn't really a huge issue and the drama probably won't crop up too horribly. I'm not sure how she feels about it (as, unless I'm mistaken, it's her main shop now) - but running it on the side with a shop of my own isn't all bad. I like to think our skills are matched (if anything she's better than me///) and the workload is even..? Though there are activity spikes etc
Of course the experience can vary but that's my take on it /w\

Just to add on to the discussion of co-ed sig shops,
there will be competition regardless of whether it is a connected
or a segregated sig shop. This is especially if you are working with
a well known coder, or vice versa. You may be hidden under the
shadow, or have everyone ordering from only you.
My advice to avoid this is to try to work with someone on
the same coding level as you. This can make everything
somewhat equal.
