how old is the bird ? what gender?
and when it was molting...then they often are a bit more careful, sensitive...

cliker Training maybe....there are interesting Videos on YouTube when im not wrong and books

He's a male, and hes about a year.

Also, about clicker training, does it have to be a clicker? All of my family just say to make a sound whenever he does something right, would that work as well as a clicker?

Hey guys, once again cx but this time I was just wondering what kinds of foods can Diamond Doves can and cannot eat. I know about their main meal if you'd like to all it that, but what about things like wheat bread and what are some things they can't eat so I'll know? I like making sure my pets have fresh produce and foods and I'd just like to know what I wouldn't be able to feed a Diamond Dove.

Well, I kinda of have a bird but he live in a pet store I am just waiting fot them to get cockatiel so I can have it, since One cockatiel made me fell in love with him, he would just eat from my hand and play and let me pet it only, he wouldnt eat from anyone hand that i had to go to the petstore many times to feed it but since school start i couldn't and sadly he got sick from his friend, I didn't get to say good bye before they give him away to another pet store, I feel like it my fault that i got him sick he gave me a sad look after i left the store, that bird was my soul and now it gone... xc But I am getting a bird soon, Just hoping he won't get scare or attack my pet fish because I would love to show him around the house or bond with my pets.

A few things they can eat is apple, banana ,lettuce, and carrot. It all has to be chopped into very small pieces, or the dove won't eat it. They should have a small bowl of fresh fruits and veggies available, but make sure to throw it out of it begins to dry up. Don't feed anymore then a few crumbs of bread, it can cause problems in the dove. Aside what you asked, I forgot to mention; if the cage you decide on has a grate at the bottom, don't forget to remove it. Because they spend a lot of time on the ground it can cause a broken leg if they get stuck.

Thank you! My friend has a Ring-Neck Dove and she has a grate at the bottom but she puts newspaper/towels over it so he doesn't fall through. Do you think if I wouldn't be able to remove the grate if that would be okay?

If he's about a year he is likely going through his first full molt and this can take anywhere from a month to 6 months+ and can be a tough time for you two since he's new to you.
Clickers are much easier to use because there's nothing else in your house that will make that noise to SPECIFICALLY tell him he's a good boy. Saying "good boy" Isn't as effective because you say that on a regular basis and he will be confused. I recommend target training and clicker training your bird, there are 1000 videos online covering how to do them and why you should. Target training is the basis of all training and is very crucial to teach your parrot this.
This molting process will make him itch and hurt all over and so touching him ( petting.. etc ) is not recommended unless you and your bird have a strong bond, but since you two do not yet, I would just say don't try to pet him just start to target train him. My lovebird picked up on target training very fast and is very good at it now, and I never worry about having to put him back in his cage.

Glad that you may be getting a cockatiel.. but PLEASE never let your bird and your other pets interact.. ever. It is very dangerous and could get one of both of them killed no matter the animal. It doesn't matter if your dog is " so sweet and would never hurt her", there's still a very high likely-hood she will hurt her and kill her. Birds and other animals do not speak the same language so they will not know that your bird screaming means "no", and your dog barking means "no". Keep parrots with Parrots

When I meant that I meant they just see eachother, And I only have pet fish and snail, I wouldn't let them touch eachother, they are prob have to be in the same room anyways, I want my bird to have a big cage where it can fly and have a lot of toys but I seen cages that are big but not wide enought for it to fly and play, One question I don't get how you clean the poop, like what do you use?

Yes, you can put paper towel over the grate if it can't be taken out. This is actually what I am doing with one of my dove cages, since the female has eggs and I would have to lift the whole cage to take the grate. Newspaper isn't very good at the bottom of the cage, it doesn't absorb droppings and the ink on it can smudge off on your dove.

Oh okay.. just makin sure (;

You just use some kind of litter or paper under tha grate at the bottom of the cage and lift or dump it every so often. You can just pick up or scrape the poop off of stuff after it has dried. It's more of an experience thing. They will poop a LOT

Ah thank you!, can you use like cat litter? I was holding to put a toilet on the ground so if it fall or plan to jump down it will land a soft spot, In our petstore they don't live in cage and never live in cage they live in like a big fish tank what I always say and when they fall it soft, so no animal get hurt which I love, I don't think it a fish tank though cx, Oh so the poop will dried off and you can scrape it?
Is it hard cleaning their poops? I actually don't mind picking animals poops, I told my parent I would clean it poop, they just have to buy me the cage and the bird, And I will buy it toy's and feed it
