I think I started taking lessons when I was 6 or 7 years old.
I really honestly don't know. XD I've liked them for as long as I can remember and been whining about riding for about as long. I guess riding as a sport has some finer tones to some other sports, yet you can do various things and not just focus on one aspect. There's also just that Something in horses.
My favorite breed is the Icelandic horse, because I used to be afraid of bigger horses and you can rarely ever out grow an Icelandic. I also like the personalities and the extra challenge and thrill the gaits bring into the riding. In the beginning I also liked the riding lessons on them much more than I did on the regular ponies, so I guess then they just stuck to me.
English. I preger gaited riding, but since it has similar goals as dressage I dable a lot towards that as well. At the moment I don't compete, so I'm just a please rider for now.
Oh dear, yes it has. Owning is a big responsibility and very very money and time consuming. Holidays are pretty much a no no, but on rare occasion I've managed to do so. I also prioritize most of my money to my horses' needs rather than my own. So they basically suck the life out of me, but wouldn't have it any other way. XD (well, if I had little bit better financial situation then things might be bit different)
Like the second question, I do not know. Just horses I guess. lol
At the moment I own 2 lovely Icelandic horses, mother and son ages 21 and 3. And I'm expecting a foal to be born in May. ^^ Unfortunately one has to go then as I don't really need 3 horses, nor can I really afford to keep 3.

Did I already throw a party that school ends this week? If not then I'll do that now.... Woooooo! School ends on Friday, I get to see my pony maybe little more. I also bought Heta some protein feed just incase, as she's just about in good condition and by look of things, if she foals early May the pasture is not ready yet. So thought little extra might not hurt.
Bugs are starting to come out and she's feeling little itchy already, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed she doesn't get much worse before foaling, as for now it's mild enough so that I don't need to rug her.
Also when I went to get that feed... The tack store had 2 pairs of pants that firstly were on sale for -40% and both were in my size and fit perfectly. But I didn't have money to get them. T__T I've been drooling over one of the pairs for good while and the other pair was really soft actual jean material so they would have been nice for coming summer.

I started taking lessons at 3 years old, and then my mother purchased my first horse for me at 4! I love riding horses because of their sweet, and silly personalities! They are so spiritual and they can heal just about any wound. I ride both english and western, but I am leaning more towards english these days because the tack is easier to put on. Of course! I spend 90% of my day at the barn, and the other 10% is homework and chores. I don't really know why I love horses, I just always have.
I have a paint horse named Tacoma, a connemara pony named Chaos, and an quarter paint named Tracy.


I started 4-h today! It was really fun! I am apart of pony club, so it was quite similar just more laid back.

ahh so it is, yes your right its way to much money when shown under saddle and you cant do the Training or the showing...., hope you can Show him next year, or when you have a Show later in this year and he Looks bether then^^
hope he learn well under saddle and is one of the nice gentle horses^^ and that you have fun riding him the first time!

your School is finished, thats great for you do you want to start an other after this or wait a bit ?
cant wait to see how Hetas Baby will be, would be great when its a filly with white legs^^ time really runs...

--> to the Pants...maybe you can ask them if you can pay a bit for both of them and they let you pay the rest later, some Shops do this when you talk with the owner...(or a friend can give you some Money- or your mother?....or you could help a bit in the shop for the pants...or sell some horse things you dont need-use? )

1 - as kid 5-7, but bevor this i was put on a Pony now and then

2 - as i later did say dromedary are not easy to Keep...so non for me in my situation now:lol:
i cant really say why... its really not easy...
i like there movements, there different gaites, the freedom you get on the back of a horse, the Feeling of flying, the power you feel when the horse moves, the gentleness, you can learn and see so much when on horseback what you may missed when on ground...for me its also happiness to be with my best friend and my baby dog...
its not only riding and learning from an riding instructor ...its when you are outside early in the morning too,riding in the forst or fields wherever.... the peace calm, beauty the nature the sun or wind sometimes rain...its something you only have with a horse...and sometimes even only something when you are alone....
i could bring some more but it will be to much...

- icelandic horse: i love them, they often are what you say about them they are horse from ice with fire under them....they can be gentle to hot headed (and with some it changes from one day or Moment to tthe other )...can be lovely to i want to give them a good slap....they have a great character each horse is different in there own special way...you can ride one horse and say its the most gentle horse ever with super easy soft gaites and an other trys to ride it and they say its a beast or cant move with hard gaites (to the same horse)...they search there Person they like or deslike and Show it them...^^they are funny and cute, in winter they can look like a fluffed up Teddy bear and in summer they can look all shiny and elegant^^ and the heads of them, the often Little ears, the fur and all the different mane and tails...from fluffy, short to extrem Long and double sided
most of them you can use for any possible way...they can jump, dressage, are gaited, carriage-sulky, western, trick Training, great companion horses,trail, long endurance is one of there big points and so on....there are so many Colors....when im right its the only breed who as every Color possible and some more....for some you even must Name a new color^^
but even when many may think so...they are not always the best children horses ...they have a strong head and can be very difficult for beginner and Kids-Teens...(but not all^^)
they need other horses to be the most happy the more the bether...
they are cute-fluffy-lovely Monster and i was together with them since i was a kid...so i think i really love them^^

- arabian: i love them since i was a little kid , the asil arabian...the original not those stupid diched in headed Show Ponys( they can be nice but i dont like them...so no offence)... the working racing or endurance horses....they are beautiful, powerful, they are art in movement, they are fantatic...can go long time with little water and feed when need too, they have strong hoove and legs, big heart, there character,a arabian horse in full out run is a view to behold....ok stopping here bevor to much

-akhal teke: i really love this horses, i love that they are one Person horses, they can be ridden by other Person too when trained for this, but when you are the only one to Train and ride them they will be difficult to not rideable for an other Person, they really search there Person when you give them the Chance...a breeder we talked to did say he once wanted to buy a horse but an other horse always got between them, in the end he did buy this horse and was happy with this.... they are highly intelligent,
they are often not the most beautiful with a thin build, sparse tail and mane, often hooded eyes, sometimes to long ears, Long back and neck....but they are great.
there speed and endurance, tough and resilient,there power, they are adapted to severe climatic conditions and such great for long endurance , and there distinctive metallic sheen is nice to look at

they are very difficult horses, not easy, and not really horses for beginner or to hard handed People, they will fight when its to much for them,
- and some other breed but i dont want to write to much, ist enough^^

4 - english ...i think...gaited horses,
endurance and a touch jumping, i did try Airs above the ground ...but only one horse did work a Little of the starting basics bevor it was sold...but maybe one day i find a horse to teach some of it^^ western i had no time but i think i like to try it one day too...

5 - like Hime already did say...its a big responsibility, lots of time-Money-energy consuming-...some bad health too....non or rarely Holidays...
you pay more for horse feed- care-items...as you pay for yourself( atleast at the beginning...but it depends)...but hey you learn to work with Money and find great sales ^^
...ohhh and you see horse useable items nearly everywhere...or great pastures for horses...and you learn to sew (you dont know how fast a horse can destroy things...blankets, halter, pads..or you find things to plain and like to make them nicer....and so on)^^

6 - why horses.....camel (dromedary also called the Arabian camel (Camelus dromedarius))are not so easy to keep ....but nahh...i love horses, so i think a live without one (the same goes for dogs) i cant think of.... im so Long with horses that i would miss a big part of myself...so i think when ist possible i always want to have a horse...or my Girl for as Long as i can^^

7 - an older icelandic mare

So I know we aren't aloud to ask for medical advice (and I'm technically not) but I'm worried that Midnight might have (Australian) string halt. I saw him yesterday and he was moving a bit funny in the back legs, he almost looked stiff. We rode him around but he didn't lift his legs up high or show any clear signs of string halt. But I think he might have really really early stages of it. I haven't noticed many flatweeds in a paddock so I'm not sure, and I'm not able to see him again until Saturday when we have a horse comp. If he has (Australian) string halt then I fear we can't get treatment becuase of our money situation. He also needs a massage, we need to fix the car, I need the osteopath, we need a new saddle, and our money situation is really tight right now. Please don't have string halt please.

Hey guys I'm new to this thread ^^. I thought it best to introduce myself with these questions
I started riding at the age of 13 and considering how old I am now... I haven't been riding for very long, well compared to the ones that have been riding since the age of 5.
Im an animal lover! And I do suffer from anxiety and I have always found myself more comfortable around animals than people. So I guess riding and being around horses is an escape for me, I find it easier to be myself. Besides I love the bond you can have with horses.
My favourite breed is defiantly the lusitano. They just look so beautiful!
I guess I don't really have a favourite discipline. Mainly because I haven't really tired many. I have never rode western before ( well now that I think about it I have done barrel racing and that's about it), so im not really going to say that I like the English discipline more. But I do really enjoy jumping!
Defiantly, it has helped me choose what career path I may want to do in the future!
Why horses? Why not! Mans best friend is said to be the dog, but it's the horse that helped us and stood by our side for generations.
Unfortunately I don't own a horse. Me and my family have been renting for my entire life and this isn't property big enough for a horse. Money is also a big problem for us. So for now I'm sticking with my horse riding lessons, without it I would have no horse riding experience.

I believe I started riding at nine or ten.

Do I need a reason to like riding? It just... is. I love the partnership, and the fact that you have to work together with another being to accomplish your goal. And I really appreciate that the other being in question isn't a human.

I don't really have a specific favorite breed. A lot of the horses I ride are cross-breeds, and I've never really worked with one breed in particular.

Yes! I count strides between sidewalk cracks, I cluck at people to get them to move over. When driving, I often try to sit deep in the seat and pull back on the steering wheel to stop. I know more about genetics and psychology than I would otherwise as well.

Well I was obsessed with horses and did every pony ride at every festival I could until I started taking lessons at probably age nine, it's been off and on since then but I'm trying to find a barn to ride at.

I love horses because the partnership you build with them is just incredible, the things you can do as a team are just amazing. They're great friends, they understand you in ways other people can't.

I don't really have a favorite, my favorite horse was a crossbreed but he was a mustang mix and I've worked with alot of mustang mixes, they're amazing animals. I'd love to work with mustangs. I have a soft spot for Tennessee walkers as well, as I learned to ride on them.

Does Natural Horsemanship count? I really enjoy riding bareback, and when I get my own horse I'm excited to teach it bridleless. If I had to pick, I would lean more towards western, though.

Well I don't own them but yes, ever since I was a kid I've literally dreamed about horses, for the longest time whenever I would run I would make my strides like a horse's (still do actually), whenever I watch a movie, the horses are my main focus, and of course I've been saving money to hopefully own my own horses someday.

Because horses are bae xD

I don't have one, but as soon as I get the means I plan on tracking down my favorite horse Dandy, a mustang mix, and buying him.
