POCKY! (and other Japanese snacks) Discussion Thread!

Postby ~Nova » Tue Sep 08, 2009 12:03 pm

Okay, so right now, I am obsessed with...

POCKY!
Image
You know, those chocolate-covered biscuit sticks sold in the little red boxes! :D

Image
Man, I wish we had Pocky vending machines where I live. XD

At this point in time I'm obsessed with them and trying out new brands of snacks foreign to my American-culture palate.

One thing I've tried is Pucca (chocolate-filled biscuit thingies)...
Image
And I love 'em! :D

But what I'd like to know is if there's a Japanese or other Asian snack (or even snacks from other cultures!) that I MUST try!

So tell me if there's a snack or candy YOU love! Make some suggestions so I can try out these foods myself! :D Include where you can find these foods at (such as stores, internet, that kinda thing) and tell me why, exactly, you love these snacks! :D

Feel free to discuss these and other snacks in this thread too!

:DDDD Yes! Pocky FTW!! XD
*ahem* sorry about that lol, but Pocky is a great snack :)
I'm personly found of Stumps. I'm not sure if that's what the brand name is or not, but they're little cookies dipped in chocolate and shaped to look like stumps! (lol, surprised? XD) They're really cute, actually. You should be able to find them in your local Asian food supermarket.

I have seen some kiwi gummies from Japan. They looked good but my mom wouldn't let me buy them. They were in this video renting store.

Oooh. There's an Asian foodmart near where I live; I outta check it out sometime.

I've tried a new type of Pocky: Almond Crush. It's pretty good, but I prefer regular Pocky really. I can't wait 'til the Pocky I ordered online gets here! >.> If it ever DOES...

So does anyone else want to suggest anything? I'm looking for ALL cuisines here, not just Asian!

I've never tried Pocky, Asian food in general doesn't sound that appealing to me.
Oh, except for salted duck eggs. There's a shop called Asian Mart I walk past on occasion and it always has big trays of them. I have no idea how to prepare them, but it would be neat to say you bought salted duck eggs.

One thing that I do find kipferl rather nice. They're crescent shaped almond/vanilla buiscuitty things that are traditionally Austrian, I believe. My Omi used to make them regularly for me as a child, they were delicious with a glass of milk and had a really pleasant texture/taste, especially when they've been dusted with icing sugar.

POCKYYYYYYYYYY!
pocky pocky pocky pocky pocky! :D :D :D
Okay, anyway, I recommend eating salted duck eggs with rice with a bit of water in it. Try it! It's good, the watery rice melting down the salty flavour of the duck eggs.
Leave rice in a bit of water (not a lot) and it should taste nice.

I really wan't to try them, I must go check out the local asian place - it's packed to the roof in things I can't read XD

But I had some cube-shaped, peach flavour gum once, that was yum :3
