Well it was pretty darn stupid because yellowfang killed her own son which is really wrong on a very high level. Wouldn't it be creepy your mom killing you even though he killed his father.

It wasn't stupid that Yellowfang killed Brokentail. She knew everyone hated him, but didn't want them to invade the camp and kill him, so she gave him deathberries on purpose.

I assume you are talking of Last Hope. Yellowfang never killed Brokenstar twice because he killed his father/her mate. It is because he killed Ferncloud. Yellowfang was protecting Thunderclan, and Brokenstar happened to be in the camp. after Brokenstar killed Ferncloud, Yellowfang, who is on the live cat's side should have taken revenge. No matter if she is related to him or not. Brokenstar was an evil cat while he was alive. According to the medicine code, he shouldn't have even been alive. Yellowfang had given him to someone who thought of him as a burden, thus making him feel unwanted. It was the start of his evil ways.

I am sure there are great plans for her having died in the whole series 'A Vision Of The Shadows' It is most likely important that she died. Plus, she is reuniting with Firestar. The Erins know what they are doing (;

I'm actually really happy she dies? I haven't read it, but she's very old and tired and deserved eternal happiness. (Like how I felt about Tallstar's death. It was sad but he deserved peace.)
I wish Graystripe could get his peace now too.

Another note, for some reason I was really torn up about the death of Barkface because he was the last living cat who had the same rank from Into The Wild. The rest died or received different ranks.
