"I can't imagine..." He sighed and hugged Firefeather.
"The worst thing to ever happen to me was having a screwdriver driven through my shoulder. Then they guy bought a beer from me." He smirked to himself.
"But I can't even imagine what you've been through."

"Sometimes it's the mental things that hurt more" I say. "Jayfeather told me that before he..." I stop. It would hurt me too much to say. But I do anyway "Died. Right in my arms"

Jay sighed and buried his face in Firefeather's fur. (Mask off, of course)
"I'm sorry..." He mumbled.
"There isn't many people I would be sad if they died. But he sounds like he was a good friend..."

"He was more than a friend... I loved him. Very much. But our love was forbidden. He was a medicine cat, I was a warrior. We were planning on running away together, but he died." It was years ago, but I still miss him."

Jay sucked at things like these. Bad. So he just nodded and hugged her closer and continued to pet her softly.

I sat there in silence until there was gummy bear slime all over Jay. "You might want to clean yourself off" I suggest, leaping off his lap and running into a corner. "I think we're done with the sappiness."

But the truth was, I wanted to sit there forever, in the warmth and safety of his loving arms. But I couldn't, just couldn't. I would have lost myself in those arms, never to be found again. It was almost too depressing to think about.

Jay leaned his head back against the wall.
"Phew. I suck at comforting people...I wonder what happened to Night... She's kinda a shifter like me-" he paused, then shifted into his car species. He smiled at Firefeather, ears twitching, and purred for a second.

I turned back, and Jay was a cat. My heart warmed. He did that for me, didn't he. He looks so much like Jayfeather, calm eyes, rippling pelt, like it was made of grey waves. Why does he remind me of Jayfeather so much? Must just be a coincidence. "Thank you, Jay." I whisper so that he can just barely hear.

"Uh-" he grinned and shifted back.
"Anytime, I can be aaaanything you like, Feather."
