Where I am I have never heard of coyotes attacking horses, then again I don't think we get coyotes in Australia. I'd suggest a dog but a dogs claws wouldn't leave marks (if so then probably small marks.) On the other page it had someone who's foal got killed by coyotes if you want to have a look there. Other than thatI can't help.

Thank you both, it's been narrowed down to a coyote or a large wild cat that's common in our area. Though both are uncommon for attacking horses like this.

@Running: She took a decently bad hit but it's too graphic to post a picture.

@goldwolf
Well I hope she'll be ok. Where abouts did it get her?
@RunningRace
What would you like the games for? I have a lot of ideas in mind but they might not be safe depending on what you want them for.

@Brumby: Her left flank and rear mainly, but also her right leg and hoof minorly.

We're looking for games for pairs/groups to play. Nothing that requires too many people though, since we usually ride up to 4.
Just fun stuff, like the egg balanced on the spoon game and whatnot. Probably nothing for really advanced riders (bareback, requires fast running and tight turns.) because none of the riding students can handle controlling a horse at a fast lope, or they aren't there yet and no student rides bareback. (obviously I get to ride bareback on rare occasions since I lease but I'm different case xD)
Signature under construction.

@gold
Lucky that her leg/face/neck/throat/stomach weren't attacked. Our friends horse had its shoulder attacked once, an important tendon in the shoulder was almost pierced and the horse almost had to be put put down. The rear is probably one of the best spots (apart from the fact the horse could of lost its footing and landed on her side in the attack, they could of ended real bad...) for injury to be.
@running
I was going to suggest something like handy pony bareback but that's ruled out.
Sack race?
You have to ride the horse up to a helper (to hold the horse) and dismount. Get in a sack (chaff bag works best XD) and jump from one cone to the other before coming back. Then get out of the sack and remount, then go back. The winner is the one that finishes first, this can also be done in teams. But some horses spook at the bags, my horse was one of the few that spooked when I did this once.
ring toss? (I forget what it's called)
The rider receives a certain amount of 'rings'. These can be any circle like objects with a hole in the middle. Then they have to ride their horse over to a pole and try to throw the rings onto the pole. This can be done with or without teams and the most accurate throws wins.
Simon says?
This is literally Simon says but on horseback. If you don't know what Simon says then I can explain
Apple bobbing?
Ride you horse up to a helper (to hold the horse) dismount and then try to get an able out of a bucket of water using okay your mouth. Once you get the apple remount the horse and return back to the starting point. The winner can be first back or the one to receive the most apples, your pick. This can also be done with or without groups.
There's some ideas, some better than others...
