(Argh! Sorry if you think they're lame names. Those dogs are kinda hard to name. >.<)

I think they're mostly named by the name of the staff member who made them, although there may be a few unique ones that got popular names of their own.

That's because the bunny was based on that dog c:
All of the token trade-in bunnies are based off existing pet designs. There were two or three exceptions in 2009 (though back then we didn't have a token system, and the pet-inspired bunnies were found in the banners), but other than that, the buns that you get for tokens all look like other pets.
The ones you get for free, however, are completely new designs.
