Hey, everyone!

I've noticed it has been kind of quiet around here recently, maybe due to a lack of new episodes and other topics to talk about, so I thought I would put a survey out there for fun if anyone is interested in filling it out. We can get to know our fellow CS Whovians a little better and possibly get some more discussion going. :) I know the first couple questions are in the join form, but considering how opinions have a habit of changing over time (mine definitely have!), I didn't think it would hurt to throw them in here as well.

Have you ever been to a convention or other fan event?

Who is/are your favorite Doctor(s)?
Ten, possibly at the very top because he was my first. Close behind are Four, Five, and Twelve, not necessarily in that order. Although, there really haven't been any Doctors I have not liked.
Who is/are your favorite companion(s)?
Leela, by far -- I love her.
Some other companions I like are Donna, Captain Jack, K-9 (seriously, how can anyone not love K-9? He's an adorable little tin dog that shoots laser death rays from his nose. C'mon,) Turlough, and Ian Chesterton. Sarah Jane and Clara aren't bad, either.
What is/are your favorite story(s)?
Old series: "Genesis of the Daleks"
    New series: "Midnight"

... I seem to be drawn to dark themes ...
Who or what is/are your favorite monster(s) or villain(s)?
Daleks. Daleks are absolutely adorable deadly. I'm boring, I know.
Any favorite quotes?
    *cough* Way too many.

Well, the two in my signature, for starters:
I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words. I scatter them in time and space: a message to lead myself here. I want you safe, my Doctor, protected from the false God. You are tiny. I can see the whole of time and space, every single atom of your existence, and I divide them. Everything must come to dust. All things - everything dies. The Time War ends.

Homo sapiens. What an inventive, invincible species. It's only a few million years since they crawled up out of the mud and learned to walk. Puny, defenseless bipeds. They've survived flood, famine, and plague. They've survived cosmic wars and holocausts. And now, here they are, out among the stars, waiting to begin a new life. Ready to out-sit eternity. They're indomitable ... Indomitable.

    And a few others:
There’s no point in being grown-up if you can’t be childish sometimes.

Nobody important? Blimey, that’s amazing. Do you know, in nine hundred years of time and space, I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important before.

The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common: they don't change their views to fit the facts. They change the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs changing.

A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting.

Everything in life has its purpose, Drathro. Every creature plays its part, but the purpose of life is too big to be knowable. A million computers couldn't solve that one.
Why did you decide to start watching Doctor Who?
I had actually been thinking about watching it for several months because so many people I knew were fans, but I ended up procrastinating for a while because I had no idea where to start and was overwhelmed by how long the show had been running and how much of it there was out there. ^^" Eventually I learned that David Tennant, who I loved in Harry Potter, was the actor playing the Tenth Doctor, so from there I finally decided to jump in and start watching from his first episode.
Have you watched both New Who and Classic Who? If not, are you planning to eventually watch both? If yes, do you have a preference for one or the other?
Yes! As of right now, I've seen all of the new series and a good chunk of the old (all but three stories of seasons 12 through 21, as well as 8 stories of the First Doctor, 7 of the Sixth, 1 of the Seventh, and Eight's movie, and if I can count "The Five Doctors," then 1 story of the Second and Third Doctors, too.) All in the time span of about three or four months because I obviously have no life, heh. I really don't have a preference between the two -- both have their ups and downs and are amazing in their own way.
Have you watched any of the spin-off series?
Yes: Torchwood. I've watched the first series and about half of the second so far. I don't like it as much as DW, but it's definitely an interesting show by itself.
Do you own any DW merchandise or have plans to get some?
The scarf and book I mentioned earlier, along with a shirt I got for my birthday and a bunch of DVDs.
Have you ever been to a convention or other fan event?
Unfortunately not, although I found out there's going to be a con near me in November, so I'm hoping I'll be able to scrounge up some money and buy a ticket. ^^

    Who is/are your favorite Doctor(s)?
    The 11th doctor, 10th and 12th doctor.

    Who is/are your favorite companion(s)?
My favorite companions are Amy & Rory, Rose and Donna.

    What is/are your favorite episode(s)?
I have so many. I enjoyed the first episode after the regeneration of David to Matt.
Who or what is/are your favorite monster(s) or villain(s)?
Probably the Silence and the weeping angels.

    Any favorite quotes?
SO MANY. Here's a few of my favorites.
The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

“Demons run when a good man goes to war
Night will fall and drown the sun
When a good man goes to war

Friendship dies and true love lies
Night will fall and the dark will rise
When a good man goes to war

Demons run, but count the cost
The battle's won, but the child is lost”

“We're all stories, in the end.”

Why did you decide to start watching Doctor Who?
I started to watch Doctor Who when I overhead my younger sister talking to my father about the very first episode (regenerated seasons) with the 9th Doctor. She was talking about how creepy the first 5-10 minutes of it was. Because it didn't sound very scary, I wanted to watch it with her (since I love scary shows). After watching the first episode, I got sucked into the show and started binge-watching the episodes.

Have you watched both New Who and Classic Who? If not, are you planning to eventually watch both? If yes, do you have a preference for one or the other?
I've watch both the New Who and the Classic Who. I've only watched a couple episodes of the Classic Who.
I'm already caught up with the New Who episodes, so I may think about watching the rest of the Classic Who episodes (though I can't find any place to watch those episodes).

Have you watched any of the spin-off series?
No, I haven't. My father has already watched Torchwood, but he says it's much different than Doctor Who.

Do you own any DW merchandise or have plans to get some?
I HAVE LOTS OF DW MERCH! I own a mini TARDIS cookie jar, DW book, 3 Doctor Who posters, 2 DW shirts, 11 & 10's sonic screwdrivers and TARDIS mug (the TARDIS disappears and appears somewhere else on the mug). And I'm still planning on getting more stuff, including TARDIS socks, posters and stickers.

Have you ever been to a convention or other fan event?
Unfortunately, I haven't. The closest place where they hold the conventions are in NYC and I live about 4-5 hours away.
BUT, this year for summer vacation, I'm going to Cardiff and I'm going to the Doctor Who Experience building!!! I'm super excited!!

I'm already caught up with the New Who episodes, so I may think about watching the rest of the Classic Who episodes (though I can't find any place to watch those episodes).

Yeah, the classics can be hard to track down sometimes. If you have access to a public library, though, you could probably find some DVDs available there to borrow. That's where I've been able to find and watch a bunch of them. I got to watch a lot on Hulu plus and Netflix, too, but unfortunately they've had to take down all their Doctor Who content, so that's not an option anymore ... *sigh*

There are also a lot of Classic Who stories available for digital purchase on iTunes and similar sources, and of course there's always the option of buying the DVDs. You can often find them pretty cheap on Amazon UK, although that's only a good option if you have a player that works with region 2 PAL DVDs.

Aaand, you can find a lot of the show online if you search on Dailymotion.

My father has already watched Torchwood, but he says it's much different than Doctor Who.

It's definitely very different, so if you watch it expecting it to be like Doctor Who, you'll probably be disappointed or at least surprised. It also has a lot more graphic violence and other mature content, and some very dark/disturbing moments, so it's really not a family-friendly show like Doctor Who, either. It is a pretty good show in its own right, but if you do watch it sometime, just keep all that in mind so you don't expect something different and then get a nasty surprise. ^^

Who is/are your favorite Doctor(s)? Let's see...2nd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th
Who is/are your favorite companion(s)? Donna Noble, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song, Clara Oswald
What is/are your favorite episode(s)? Ugh. I have so many favorites. X3 Off the top of my head (and what I own): The Unicorn and the Wasp, Eleventh Hour, The Pandorica Opens, The Big Bang, A Christmas Carol, Let's Kill Hitler, The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe, Asylum of the Daleks, The Snowmen, basically most of season 7 part 2, The Day of the Doctor, The Name of the Doctor, Deep Breath, Robot of Sherwood, Flatline, Dark Water, Death In Heaven, Last Christmas, and almost every single episode of season 9 (minus Sleep No More).

Who or what is/are your favorite monster(s) or villain(s)? Hmmm...Daleks (I find them comical), the Zygons, um...the Lion-like aliens...I can't remember what their species was called, but one of them appeared in The Woman Who Lived in Season 9. X3

Any favorite quotes?
Oh gosh, I have so many, I'll have to get back to this because I need to go to Spanish class soon. X3
I am 100% guilty of using Doctor Who quotes as hooks for my essays. X3 I have one quote from The Zygon Inversion that I'm sitting on, waiting to use for an essay I'm doing for History. X3

Why did you decide to start watching Doctor Who?
Actually, this is a bit of a sad story. Kinda. X3
So, I started watching in during Spring of 2013, it was my first semester of college and for the first time in forever, I was taking the bus, worse than that, it was the public transit. It scared me, I was terrified of the people who came on the bus. There were quite a few who were plainly drug abusers and some looked like they were in gangs. I didn't have my twin brother with me, I felt scared and alone until I discovered 2 boys who rode on the bus who I knew from middle school and high school.
I pretty much latched onto them, being the only two people I knew on the bus and felt safe around. Of the numerous things they talked about, one of the subjects was Doctor Who. I had been slightly interested in finding out about the show because I'd seen so many gifs, pictures, signature stamps with Doctor Who stuff on CS and I had some friends that I'd made my Senior year of high school who watched the show, so I was aware of it's existence prior to then.
I decided to watch it because I wanted to hold more of a conversation with them. ^^; So what started out as a way to feel safe, it's since become like...my favorite show above all others. X3

Have you watched both New Who and Classic Who? If not, are you planning to eventually watch both? If yes, do you have a preference for one or the other?
Yes. I've watched all of the New Who, but sadly, I haven't watched all of Classic Who. I've seen some of the 2nd Doctor's run, some of the 4th's, I saw the special episode/movie with 2 and 6 (I really liked that movie, please don't hate me ^^; ), and that's about all I've seen of the old stuff. I'm sort of limited to whatever I can get ahold of from the public library. That's why I started out with season 5 with 11.
Sadly, my laptop no longer wants to read discs, so even if I found and checked out DVDs from the Classic Who, I wouldn't be able to watch them except for on the TV and my mom hates Doctor Who. :(

Have you watched any of the spin-off series?
No, I haven't, but I want to. X3 It'll probably be something I have to get to when I have the time. ^^;
:D
Do you own any DW merchandise or have plans to get some?
Yes, I do own some, but I want more. X3
I have 2 shirts, 11/12's Sonic Screwdriver, a "hobo bag" with the 11th Doctor and the TARDIS on it, I have a bookmark with Doctors 1 to 11 on it, I have a cell phone case for my iPhone 5s with the 10th Doctor on it, and I have a DVD copy of Last Christmas. X3
I really want to get a replica of 4th's scarf. If nothing else, I will learn to knit because I have the instructions on how to make the scarf. X3 I would also love to get one of those alarm clocks, TARDIS, Dalek, I don't care. X3 Right now, I have my iPhone set to the TARDIS landing as my alarm. But I want the satisfaction of actually turning a clock off. X3
I would love, love, love to get 12's sonic screwdriver. It looks so rad. 0_0

Have you ever been to a convention or other fan event?
Alas, I have never been to a convention, although I would really, really, really love to and I have a friend who intends on taking me to one. X3 Don't know if that's ever going to actually happen, but we'll see. X3
I have, however, been to a fan event. Last year, for the 52nd anniversary of Doctor Who, one of the public libraries in the public library system for where I live hosted a Doctor Who event. It wasn't anything overly special, it was just fans in the area coming together and there were going to be guest speakers, a lady born and raised in England who is a fan of the show and came to live in our state and founded a Doctor Who fan club, the rest of the speakers talked about making the fan club and all that. There was also a costume contest, which I sadly lost, but I honestly didn't really care about that because I had a fun time and I met this girl who has the same name as me (my name is fairly unique, so I don't find too many people with my name), but spelled differently and she dressed up as the exact same character as me: Osgood. X3
Seriously. What. are. the. odds? X3
We tag-teamed for the costume contest, so if you know anything about Osgood, you know what angle we were going for. ;3

Leaf. wrote:I'd definitely recommend watching the seventh doctor soon! I was a bit skeptical at first as I'd heard some bad reviews about his era but he turned out to be amazing and soon became my favorite out of the doctors I've seen! His companions are pretty awesome as well, especially Ace :)

Somehow I completely missed this post before now ... *cough* Sooo, just gonna pop in here with a fashionably late response, don't mind me. ^^"

Thanks for the advice! I have watched a bit more of Seven & Ace, and I definitely like them. Seems like the writing was getting a little meh by that time, so I can see how the show might have gotten some negative reviews, but wow, Sylvester's amazing! He might be my second/fifth favorite. :)

Oh, and I went ahead and bought tickets for the convention I mentioned earlier! ^o^ Spent pretty much all the spare money I had saved up from the holidays and whatnot, but I regret nothing. Speaking of Sylvester, he's going to be there, and Peter Davison, and other people I'm dying to see, so I am totally freaking out now. I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to survive waiting until November ... Where's a time travel capsule when you need one?

i've noticed a lot of people don't have merchandise because it's only at conventions.
it's not, really. it's hard to find, but i've found doctor who stuff at hot topic and weirdly barnes and noble
i got my sonic screwdriver at barnes and noble
i got a bunch of t-shirts, a backpack with doctor who quotes all over it, and a water bottle at hot topic. doctor who stuff is kinda expensive, so i don't have much, but there are way more things at hot topic. hot topics are usually in malls.

@Schuyler ~ The writing was meh by that time from what I understand. X3 7 was the last doctor before the 8th doctor's movie that they made in an attempt to revive interest, but it was pretty much a bomb. If I remember my reading on the subject correctly, 6 and 7 were pretty much not done much justice at all. They were both treated quite unfairly if I remember correctly.
Personally, one of my favorite things that I've seen of the 6th Doctor's was the movie with him and the 2nd Doctor. X3 Course that's the only thing I've seen of his run. Sure, his clothes looked completely stupid, but I didn't think he was all that bad. ^^;
I'd love to see some of 7's run personally, actually, I'd love to see each Doctor's run. X3 I could care less about black or white or color. I just want to watch 'em all. X3

@mad, ~ I got my sonic screwdriver from Barnes & Noble too! ♥ I'd love to get the 12th Doctor's new sonic though, can't wait for that to be a toy. X3
I have a $50 gift card for Kohls and when I looked online, it looked like they might have some Doctor Who stuff. I was about ready to spend it all on that Doctor Who edition of Yahtzee, even though I have no idea how to play it. X3
Online I also found a pattern to make the 4th Doctor's scarf. So all I'd need to do is get the equipment to knit, learn how to knit, and get all the materials. X3

Yeah, the Sixth Doctor is really good. I don't understand at all why some people complain so much about him -- his personality was a bit rough, but I loved that, and Colin's acting was wonderful. <3 I think there was a lot of potential there, but the writers ended up letting him down. Oh, and I loved his coat. Actually one of my favorites among the Doctors' various outfits. xD Have to say I hate his companion, Peri, though, which unfortunately makes watching those episodes particularly frustrating for me ... It's too bad Six was one of the Doctors who had only one companion for pretty much his entire run. If it's a companion you don't like, then you're stuck without any alternatives if you want to watch that Doctor.

I don't have a lot of merch due of a combination of only just recently coming to the fandom and also generally not being someone who spends a lot of time hunting down merchandise. Basically, if I happen to come across fandom stuff while I'm wandering around a store with money to spend, then I'll snatch it up in a second, but I'm not usually out there actively searching for it (except for DVDs.) X3 I'd love to get a screwdriver sometime, though. Not sure which version I'd want to get, but I imagine it would be a lot of fun to carry one around and pretend to "sonic" stuff with it.

whenever my fandom friends see it they ask if it really works and i have to explain over and over again that if it really worked and kids could buy it for only thirty dollars the world would be in chaos. money being stolen, bad people taking over the world, the ultimate destruction of the WORLD?! yeah. i've said this to them about 23 times now.
