why

    WAIT.
veer is shutting down??? that's terrible.
does anyone know if the fonts will still work if i copy the font image url and change everything i need to (words, size, color, etc) from there? because that's how i use the fonts, and if so, i'll have no problem. or will all the fonts from veer become broken once the site's down? if that's the case, coding is going to get a lot more difficult. ;w; sigh.
i used 1001 fonts before finding veer, so that's probably what i'll go back to after veer shuts down and if i can't manipulate (is that the right word??) the fonts.
at least we'll see different fonts over the forums (and signatures)

Kim Jongdae: it's probably another font site. ^^

i asked atwood about this earlier and she said that it will most probably not work since it is hosted by veer. however, we could still save them by saving them, and then uploading them to an image hoster like imgur and get the url from there c:

if the original post is deleted, no point in still having this one here.

« literate aliens » eating earthlings since 2013

i would also like to point out that the moving the images to another host site
was a suggestion we received from the mods here at chickensmoothie.

plus, there's really no need to bring up punishments for very extreme scenar
ios. none of us are claiming these fonts as our own, none of us are redistribu
ting these fonts through third parties, and none of us are selling these fonts
for profit.

anyone who is still concerned should read the full terms of use (not just a s
mall, extreme portion) of veer, and make their own decisions from there.

I apologize if I came across as "scarring" - I honestly just wanted to prove a point that I have been trying to prove since a year ago. I've given up on trying to correct anyone or anything because I don't have the authority to do so. But for me, coming from artist hotspots such as dA, Behance, etc. I agree with my art teachers that Pinterest (et al.) equal plagiarism heaven. Because those platforms encourage others to reblog images. And maybe that's just how I was educated - plagiarism is a double edged sword, you take from others, then expect others to take from you.

Editing National Geographic's photo with a selective colour filter (or something equally effortless) and calling it your own is universally accepted as plagiarism. Yet editing a equally nice -not free- stock photo for 'personal purposes' may not be as illegal. What this debate is hosted upon is a mutually accepted grey area, which I was always taught as "posting online = distribution", "saving on your Hard Drive = personal use". Because if posting online can still be considered personal use, where can we draw the line with "personal use" and "monetary gain" (through sites such as dA or even CS, in a situation where someone asks for C$/Pets for a HTML layout-banner-photoshop).

So for the 'sanity' of others, I'll remove that post. But if anyone's curious, I'll attach a few useful links. But hey - agree to disagree! No, you won't be fined $ for using Veer's fonts (as they're not about to go track down every single user). But is this something accepted in the digital art world? Eh.

EDIT: Hey, debates are cool (although this isn't the place to do it).

Agreed.

So I got a question -
Code: Select all
do you prefer to use a laptop or desktop? and does it effect how you see other people's character forms/colours?

I prefer desktop (because of the keyboard and space) - although I currently have my laptop hooked up desktop-style. But, having not tried on the Macs yet, for me, many of the people's forms don't work - which is strange considering I have a 24in monitor (unless ya'll got 27in iMacs lol), and I've got plenty of side banner room with that CS green. As for colour, I haven't got an issue with colours being off (but I've learned in the past that black isn't always black). I'm curious to the Apple users (but Apple configures fonts differently, if I remember correctly).

@aurie's old question
Code: Select all
what's a unique coding concept/idea/form you've always wanted to try but can't figure out a working code?

popping in real quick!

what's a unique coding concept/idea/form you've always wanted to try but can't figure out a working code?

you know those white fonts, and really light color pallets? i've always wanted to use white in my forms,
but have always refrained to do so because white barely shows up on my computer screen. as a matter
of fact, i'd never been able to see white fonts (apparently the whiteish gray appears white on my screen)
until i upped the contrast and dimmed down the brightness on my screen settings. but now that i CAN
see those uber light colors (which are very pretty btw), i tend to avoid using them all the same in case
other peeps can't see them. <--- technically this wasn't about coding but i wanted to say something

do you prefer to use a laptop or desktop? and does it effect how you see other people's character forms/colours?

i definitely prefer a computer screen. more often then not, i can see people's forms fitting properly on a
desktop. i'm not saying it's always perfect, but its my best shot at being able to see other people's lovely
creations. macs and tablets are out of the question for me. aside from using a desktop, i find that using
different browsers can really affect the way a form looks too. my favs would have to be google chrome,
and if i use internet explorer, things start looking a little wonky but not quite disfigured.
