illnesses & disorders
victory has depression and social anxiety, both things
i'm constantly struggling with, rip. she also was born
with little nub-teeth instead of the big fangs seviper
normally have

iris is, uh... well, kind of a monster. she lives her life
in hiding (/in fear) and gets food and stuff from her
(blue cyclops) brother, jack.

kite's best childhood friend drowned when they were
playing together near the ocean, and he's... still
recovering from that, and probably never fully will.

muddy's albino and pretty weak because of it

and rose is a dead spirit who was killed during an
assault on her village. she was/is, uhh, pretty chopped up.

Do you have any space related characters? I dont mean
space-themed designs, I mean REAL space? Aliens?
Astronauts? Living on a space station, or a different
planet? How does it change how they see things?

i have a bunch of star trek characters from like two
years ago that i've never drawn digitally or posted
anywhere, heh
i would have to look through old sketchbooks to find em,
though, cause i don't remember them very well;;

fovea generally lives in space (specifically in a huge, giant
tree that grows all the way to the boundary of space
and has cloud-leaves rip) and is actually kind of huge.

low orbit is an astronaut pony

sylvia is a gargantuan serpentine-god creature who
creates and destroys galaxies

and my eye worm lives in space

What is what you first look for in a character?
their anatomy, usually. i like monsters and weird, unique
creatures. after that it's usually general design coherence
and colors, i guess?

wondered how things like pps work in adoptable
species, because it's super prevalent but always

Just finished up another OC. This is Cameron, my Maze Runner OC. Isnt she cute??? She came up from the lab about a year before Thomas, when she awoke in The Box she remembered one thing before anything else and that was to hide her gender until the time was right.

To all you guys who create an island or city/village for your characters to live on/in, how do you choose a name for the place? And how do you decide what characters to place in/on it, if not all are there?

Naming is the hardest thing in the world for me. I struggle and cry and huff and puff for hours, days, or even weeks. Usually I default to three methods.
1.) Keyboard smash and see if there's anything that sounds vaguely decent in the random letters. Re-arranging may be necessary.
2.) Look up words that mean something and corrupt them. For example, my friend and I have a city called Delphium, which is just a corrupted name of an actual city + slum. Within that city are 3 districts - Centium (center slum), Parium (poor slum), and Islium (island slum). I've also named something 'Teslu' which derives from the word 'Tesla', the unit of measurement of the gravitational force of the moon. The character this name was for is moon based, so it worked well.
3.) Method three is just pick a random regular word. Don't think, just choose. Belladonna - a type of flower? Well, now it's the name of a city. Done. I like this method for a world where the city names aren't too important, and your character ends up going through a lot of them. Bonus points if the cities go together (In the case of Belladonna City, another city in this world is Clover City. All plant names)

Deciding where to place my characters depends on the type of city, and the type of character. For example, I have a character named Glyph who is part of a gang and lives in a gang ridden city. Here, life is hard, the streets are dirty and dangerous, and children are trained to be on alert. Picture a city filled with row homes (town houses), cracked streets, no lawns, and maybe a tree only once every couple of blocks, growing out of the cracked pavement. Dren is a child who lives in the same world as Glyph, but not in the same city. Dren lives in a much more peaceful city, where he, as a child, can walk the streets and it never occur to him to avoid dark alleyways. He can have rediculous fantasies of self grandeur in his town because he hasn't experienced the harsher side of life. His city is bright, full of grass, birds, sweet air, trees, and it's clean.

When placing a character in a hometown, I keep in mind that where a person lives can shape who they become and I match them appropriately with a town that could have birthed a character like that. Dren's happy town would be unlikely to create a hardened assassin like Glyph, just as Glyph's town would be too much of a reality slap for a dreamer like Dren.
