Calvar Breeder's Association - White Cup Competition Open!

Postby caf. » Sun Mar 13, 2016 10:46 am

Welcome to the Calvar Breeder’s Association
Archive - Fanclub - Nursery - Kickstarter Event - Artist Competition
Welcome, welcome! We here at the CBA always love to have new members. Please, feel free to look around and see if you want to adopt a calvar looking for a home, and perhaps, if you want to get involved, get registered with the CBA!
First off, what is a calvar? Equus calvarium, known as calvars to the general public, are a lab-bred canine-equine hybrid with an interesting twist; exposed skulls! Yes indeed, their heads are made of pure bone, full of teeth. They do have minimal flesh inside of these vessels to perform life functions, such as a tongue, brain, and heat-sensing “eyes” allowing the calvar to “see.” They also have long, thin tails and split hooves. Obviously, calvars are carnivorous, eating a diet of small mammals or, in domestication, a grain-free diet of chicken and beef. Their skulls are mainly a scare tactic, but they can be used as camouflage. While calvars usually travel alone, they may travel in so-called packs when resources wear thin. A large pack of calvars can take down a cow in a combined effort!
Calvars were created in laboratories as part of an extended experiment. While the objective was unknown, the creatures were released to the public after the scientists came to the conclusion that they are safe for experienced owners provided they are trained correctly.
Calvars stand between 14.3 and 17.3 hands, and weigh in the ballpark of 900-1150 pounds, being thin creatures. They can indeed be ridden, and the vast majority are used for combined tests and general English riding.
We here at the CBA adopt out calvars needing homes and host competitions and events to keep our community lively and happy. If there’s anything you need help with, feel free to contact our friendly staff members, but make sure to read through the species information first!

Adoption
Adoption of calvars is very easy. For non-registered owners, it is completely free. For registered owners, you need only pay 100cal to get the extra teeth removed (permitting you to ride the calvar). Competitions range from FCFS to naming contests, though impress me contests and raffles may pop up occasionally.
Generally, readoption of calvars doesn’t happen unless one is revoked. If a readoption does happen, or if a rescue calvar is found, it is free (after all, teeth don’t need to be removed twice!).

Bank
In the world of calvars, the currency is known as cal, and is written as such; 50cal, 100cal, 1,000,000,000cal, etc.. Any newly registered owner receives 2000cal to start off with, with which they can do whatever they please. To make any transaction an owner must PM the banker, whomever it may be at the time, to get their finances updated. Registries have separate bank accounts. Cal can be gifted, but only with permission from the banker. Below are all of the accounts and their respective finances.

Sales
If you’re simply not interested in owning one of your calvars anymore, or are looking for a better mount, you can sell them here in the sale ring! It’s simple, just PM me with the link to your calvar and the amount you want to sell them for, and they’ll be placed for sale here. When making an offer, please PM me instead of the seller with the amount you'd like to pay.

Special offer! Pretty thing has a line edit, but since it's an artist entry has a 15% chance of passing. Lost its tail in an accident. PM Lord Raegami with offers!

Skills
Calvars are bred for skill, which is measured in points in three disciplines; showmanship, jumping, and endurance. Skills in foundations do not exceed 7 points in any one skill, and are usually randomly generated to make competitions fair. Foals’ skills are an average of their parents’ skills, with a random factor of +/-2, meaning that if two parents with skills of 5 in jumping are bred, for example, the foal will have between 3 and 7 skills in jumping. It sounds quite complicated, of course, but all an owner needs to know is that each skill point gains a calvar another entry in a competition.
Skills can be added in a few ways. The most common way is through training; by writing a story of at least 500 words or doing a fullbody art piece (doesn’t have to be colored), you can gain an additional skill point in the discipline of your choice. A calvar can be trained once every three days, with a maximum of five total skill points gained, and a cap of three points in any one skill. Training is completely free, and should be posted on the calvar’s page for the artist to add it to the skill set. If you prefer, you can pay 1500cal to have the training done for you - you can only do this twice per calvar.
If you are not interested in breeding one of your male calvars, you may choose to geld him. This gives him a bonus of +2 in showmanship, and costs 100cal. Contact the artist and the banker to geld a stallion; he will be unable to breed after the operation.
Skills acquired through training and gelding are not to be passed down to offspring - artists, be sure to note how many of each skill the calvar has gained through other means!

Mutations
By nature, Calvars are a species with many mutations. However, the lab from which they are originally produced are currently the only business allowed to tamper with the genetic code of the species. They do, however, release these mutated calvars on a very specific timetable. On the first day of spring, summer, fall, and winter each year, a batch of calvars is released, all with the same type of mutations. Each species artist makes one mutated calvar, and these are all to be adopted. These mutated calvars have a ⅕ chance of passing down their traits in breeding (⅖ if both parents possess the mutation). More info is awaited on mutation batches.
Mutated calvars are only released on mutation release dates and during special events.

Associations

Postby caf. » Sun Mar 13, 2016 10:47 am

Associations
Some calvar owners breed for specific traits, be it proficiency in a certain skill, success at a certain level, or even certain coat colors. The three types of associations all have different perks and registries to enter, as well as some sort of entry fee in most cases. In order to register a calvar, you must go to that registry’s page and fill out the form they have provided. A registry should list all the calvars they have registered, so as to make it easier to find a particular one for breeding. An association can ask for donations, so if you’re feeling generous see if one of your associations needs any extra funding. An association should also assist its members; if you’re in trouble, perhaps ask your association for monetary assistance!

Skill registries do not breed for the versatility needed for combined tests, but instead focus on an individual discipline. They have the ability to host their own competition of their particular skill, but it is up to the skill registry to set up the competition and pay for prizes. Calvars in a skill registry receive a +2 bonus in that skill, but they must meet the skill minimum for the registry and may only ever enter in one skill association. Only one registry per skill may be opened.
Skill Registries Open
None yet.

Competition registries lean more towards calvars earning success at a certain level of competition, from Bronze Cup to Diamond Cup. In order to register in a competition registry, a calvar must have earned the Crown of that level. A competition registry can open an additional combined test at their level, though they must manage the entry fees and prizes to make the competition happen. A calvar registered in a competition association gains a +1 bonus in all skills at the level of their registry, though a calvar can only ever be registered at one of these. Only one registry per level may be opened.
Competition Registries Open
None yet.

Color registries are the most laid-back registry, focused solely on the looks of their calvars. They may choose any color or set of colors to breed for, and only calvars meeting this criteria may be registered. A calvar registered in a color registry gets the luxury of free breedings provided there is a chance that the foal will be of the color the registry breeds for (excluding artist and stud fees). A color registry cannot host its own competitions.
Color Registries Open
None yet.

When a registry opens, it is automatically given 5,000cal to start off. The president of a registry, as well as its members, can pitch in to keep the registry afloat. The registry has its own account in the bank - if it goes bankrupt for more than a week, it is shut down and can only be reopened after a month’s time. A registry must manage itself, and stand as freestanding organizations; however, if any fraud is detected, the registry will be shut down and its calvars expelled.
To create a registry, fill out the form below and PM it to the species owner. If it is approved, please create a thread for the registry.

Competitions

Postby caf. » Sun Mar 13, 2016 10:47 am

Competitions
Calvars compete in what is known as a “combined test,” a three-part event akin to a horse’s three-day event. It is comprised of a showmanship portion, a jumping contest, and an endurance race. A competition will only run after 4 or more calvars have entered.
In showmanship, a rider showcases their calvar’s obedience and “rideability” through a series of figures, mounted and otherwise. They may be asked to walk, trot, canter, hand-gallop, dismount, remount, circle, figure-8, or a number of other commands on a memorized pattern. A calvar must be well-groomed and clean-looking as well as obedient and calm to earn a good score in a showmanship class.
The jumping portion of a combined test is very similar to stadium jumping for horses, with crossrails, verticals, and oxers arranged in a pattern for jumping. As the levels increase, so do the height and number of the jumps in the arena. For a good score a calvar must clear all the jumps without knocking rails - and stay on track, as the courses can be complicated!
The endurance portion allows all of the adrenaline junkies of the calvar world to get their thrills. It is a race run over trails, ranging from a mere furlong to a full five miles depending on difficulty. Many endurance trails have trees and water obstacles to make the race more challenging, and at the higher levels may have small jumps to clear. Endurance is judged purely on speed, though refusing an obstacle or missing checkpoints can be penalized.
There are six levels of calvar competition, each with a certain number of placements required to advance. To place, a calvar must get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a show. In order to increase a level a calvar must win the ‘crown’ of the previous level, which is added to their page as a show of skill. The levels are as follows:

White Cup - The easiest level of competition, for green calvars to compete. In order to win a White Crown and move to the Black Cup, a calvar must place in 1 White Cup competition. Runs once a week. Offers 100cal to 1st place, 50cal to 2nd, and 25cal to 3rd. A White Crown wins the owner 150cal. There is no entry fee for a White Cup competition.

Black Cup - An intermediate level, serves to separate the meek from the bold. In order to win a Black Crown and move to the Bronze Cup, a calvar must place in 3 Black Cup competitions. Runs once a week. Offers 300cal to 1st place, 200cal to 2nd, and 100cal to 3rd. A Black Cup wins the owner 450cal. There is no entry fee for a Black Cup competition.

Bronze Cup - More serious competition. In order to win a Bronze Crown and move to the Silver Cup, a calvar must place in 3 Bronze Cup competitions. Runs once every two weeks. Offers 500cal to 1st place, 250cal to 2nd, and 125cal to 3rd. A Bronze Cup wins the owner 750cal. The entry fee for a Bronze Cup competition is 25cal.

Silver Cup - Difficult competition; only three levels away from world domination. In order to win a Silver Crown and move to the Gold Cup, a calvar must place in 3 Silver Cup competitions. Runs once every two weeks. Offers 750cal to 1st place, 500cal to 2nd, and 250cal to 3rd. A Silver Crown wins the owner 1125cal. The entry fee for a Silver Cup competition is
50cal.

Gold Cup - For champion calvars only, a gold cup win is a high achievement. In order to win a Gold Crown and move to the Diamond Cup, a calvar must place in 3 Gold Cup competitions. Runs once a month. Offers 2000cal to 1st place, 1000cal to 2nd, and 500cal to 3rd. A Gold Crown wins the owner 3000cal. The entry fee for a Gold Cup competition is 100cal.

Diamond Cup - The best of the best, only the strongest calvars advance to diamond-level competition. In order to win a Diamond Crown, a calvar must win 1 Diamond Cup competition and have 5total career wins. Runs on special occasions. Offers 5000cal to 1st place, 2500cal to 2nd, and 1000cal to 3rd. A Diamond Crown wins the owner 7500cal. The entry fee for a Diamond Cup competition is 200cal. **Once a calvar wins a Diamond Crown it is automatically retired from competition**

In order to compete in a competition, an owner must PM the form to the competition runner (overcaffienated.) between Monday-Friday of the week preceding the competition. The competition is run Saturday through Sunday, and results are posted Sunday night or Monday morning. The competition is randomly generated, with each skill point earning the calvar an additional entry. Associations may run their competitions differently. To enter a competition, use the form below. Special Bonuses may be won during calvar events; proof must be linked.
