>WHAT ARE FAE?Fae are human-like beings that also carry characteristics of butterflies and moths.
They dislike being called Fairies because it implies that they have magic and powers however they do not and find such a word overly offensive.
To call one a "Pixie" Implies a slang to feminine reference, it's not a bad thing to those who are female, but it's not proper context and should be used with caution, the word "Sprite/s" can be used like we humans you the word "Guy", it can be a masculine slang, but when used in plural tense, it can be passed as referring to a group of Fae.
Fae can speak virtually any language, however, they speak to each other at long distances using flashing signals, the patterns tend to vary based on continent of dwelling, just like any language or accent. it is possible for humans to learn and comprehend the patterns that the Fae use.
>CHARACTERISTICSFae have two sets of antenna, the longer ones fixed higher on their head are used to sense danger, while the lower shorter ones are used to communicate to one another from long distances.
They take after real species of butterflies and moths and don't tend to stray from realistic wing patterns and shapes.
They have pointed ears that are mainly used to distinct them from humans or other humanoid creatures aside from elves.
one unique characteristic of a Fae, is their naturally crescent shaped pupils.
Fae can range is height, the differences in size often depends on the type of butterfly or moth they represent. Some can reach the size of an average human, while others can be as small as six inches.
Fae DO have genders, these genders are distinctively based on human characteristics
>YOUNGThe young of a Fae is called Pua [P-wuh]
Fae are like platypi, they lay a single egg and when it hatches, they breast feed their Pua
Pua are not born with wings, in fact they do go through a slight form of metamorphosis of sorts; as a child they have dark eyes, lack antenna, and their ears are close to that of human ears. they have spots on their back and arms, and some on their chest. On their tenth, thirteen, and eighteenth birthday, they fall into a comma for months (the time gets longer with each comma) and must be placed in water in order to keep their skin from being damaged as they shed the top four layers of their twelve. The first comma will give them their antenna and final eye color (which will both be the same color), they will subconsciously learn the flashing signals based on the inbred ones they inherit from their parents.
If a Pua has parents of two different species, moth or butterfly, they will only take after one of their parents species wise, however antenna is mostly a wild card and could be completely unrelated to that of either parent.
The second will enhance human characteristics much like puberty, and they will gain their pointed ears; they lose their spots, some do have freckles though.
During the final comma, they will gain their wings, and their height and humanic features will be complete.
