Dewclan.
A little known clan tucked away in the overcast folds of a vast mountain. The weather and climate here make for an often wet territory, though it is this that make the tall trees and lovely brushes and flowers so fertile. Berries, herbs, grasses, and other verdant autotrophs give way to plentiful prey. Mice, rabbits, birds, snakes, deer, and various other critters are to blame for the strength (and sometimes, occasional overweightness...) of Dewclan. However, with prey come more predator. Wolves, birds of prey, foxes, badgers, and the occasional stray hiker's dogs are just as plentiful. Running through Dewclan's camp is a small stream which may occasionally yield (stupid) crawfish, small minnows, and frogs.
Current Season - Spring
Current Weather - Sunny, rainfall a few days before; wet but warm

Honeyfur woke up early in the morning, a rare occurrence for the normally exhausted cat. Having been assigned an apprentice so early into becoming a warrior, she was doing her best to juggle that, as well as finding enough time to actually relax or talk to her friends. Not that she had many acquaintances to spend time with, sure she had hang-out-with-them-if-there's-no-one-else friends, but the only cats she'd really trust would be Wolfshadow and Wrentail. Wolfshadow was like a brother to her, and she'd likely do something stupid if he was ever gone. Wrentail was different. He was a friend as well, but in a way where she knew there was more to their relationship than what was there.
Sitting up, she stretched, and tried to see if anyone was awake for an early hunting session. But she saw few cats awake, and settled for sitting at the entrance to the camp, and as cliché as it may sound, watching the sun rise.

It was morning, and Mistfall had been awake for a while. Her olive green eyes were open and squinted against the sunlight that was streaming into the warrior's den. She could feel the steady weight of her brother Wolfshadow pressed close to her back. Mistfall shuffled away from the warm with a few purposeful wriggles, before realising that she was being completely stupid and rising shakily to her paws. She'd been up for most of the night, alone in the moonwashed territory that lay beyond the camp. She sometimes liked to spend the small, quiet hours training herself in endurance and technique, finding it far easier to concentrate when everything was relatively still. Maybe she did pay the price for it in the morning, but it was nothing she couldn't handle and her aching joints were more than worth the results she'd achieved. Last night had been particularly intense- she'd got back a little before dawn, and couldn't have been asleep for more than a few heartbeats. At least, that's it felt. Mistfall picked her way out of the warriors' den, careful not to step on any tails or paws, and took a heavy breath of chilly morning air. She stretched tentatively, swallowing a hiss of pain as one of the muscles in her shoulder twinged uncomfortably and channelling it instead into a seemingly languid yawn. Her gaze washed over the cats already up and about, searching for Cedarstar or Bluefur. Either one could direct her as to where to put her energies that morning.

Wolfshadow had woken several times during the night- he was a light sleeper, and for whatever reason his dreams had not been peaceful. However, he had also been determined to rise the next morning well rested, ready to relish in a full day. When his eyes flickered open for the fourth time since he'd entered the warrior's den the previous evenings, he decided his goal had been reached. Judging by the height and strength of the sun outside, it was a little later than he usually got up, but he could live with that. his gaze immediately drifted to Mistfall's empty nest, which was still next to his despite the fact that the two siblings were barely on speaking terms. She'd been gone each time he'd checked during the night, too, but her scent was stronger now and the nest was warm. She'd been in it- if only briefly. Wolfshadow made his way out of the den into camp, relishing the feeling of the morning breeze against his dark pelt. Some cats were up and about already, including Mistfall- looking as cold as always- and Honeyfur. Wolfshadow and Honeyfur had been friends for a long time, and he trusted and cared for the she-cat greatly. Ftor this reason, he immediately made a beeline towards his friend, emitting a friendly trill of greeting. "Heya," He mewed while doing his obligatory morning stretch. Wolfshadow took a seat beside Honeyfur, fluffy black tail dancing in the dust on the ground. "You okay?" It wasn't that he had any reason to think that she wasn't- it was more a friendly greeting.

The young apprentice let out a groan of resistance against the sunlight pushing against her eyelids. If Darkpaw could have fought her way back to unconsciousness, she certainly would have. But alas- she was awake now, and no matter now strong her will there was little she could do about it. Beside her, her brother Thornpaw was still blissfully enveloped in sleep, his tail tip twitching erratically against his bedding. Otherwise, he was completely still. Darkpaw longed to slap him over the face with one of her large black paws, but stopped before going through with it- Thornpaw had had a cold recently, and he could probably do with the extra rest. In fact, she'd wanted to speak to his mentor Mapleheart about that. It wasn't really her place to do so, being only an apprentice, but Darkpaw had never been one to ask others to do for her what she could do for herself. Maybe she'd do that once she'd looked out Dappleclaw- it was probably best to liaise with her own mentor before talking to her brother's. Darkpaw padded out of the apprentice den into camp, taking note that her older half siblings Wolfshadow and Mistfall were already up. Huh...maybe she'd speak to Wolfshadow about Thornpaw, too. Pushing any concerns out of her brother from her mind, Darkpaw set about finding Dappleclaw.

- Dappleclaw // tagged : darkpaw, thornpaw (mentioned), cedarstar (mentioned)
dappleclaw was first evoked by the sound of other cats beginning to stir. perhaps, though, that wasn't quite as a nuisance as the sheer torrent of sunlight that had crept into the den; it cascaded over her as she was, much to her "delight", laying directly in the strongest beams. her awakening she considered quite rude. some cats found bright morning sun to be welcoming, a sign of good things to come; dappleclaw was obviously not one of those cats. as she lazily poured herself into her bearings upon standing, she couldn't help but let out a small groan. not even bothering to stretch (for all one knows, maybe she liked the feeling of a tense back...?), the calico crept out the den with her ears pressed flat against her head. they lifted, though, as she looked around at who all was up. It was only natural that she make quick mental notes on who seemed the easiest to have a little teasing fun with - a checklist for potential torment. almost immediately, though, she rested her gaze on her apprentice, darkpaw. while more kind than herself, dappleclaw enjoyed darkpaw's occasional sarcasm and obvious potential. when darkpaw came along, dappleclaw was almost sure that cedarstar was relieved to find a cat who could keep dappleclaw occupied in such a way that wouldn't end in some sort of smart-alicky conflict. for instance, even darkpaw's kin, thornpaw, was much too sweet and his intelligence matched against dappleclaw's would only lead to a battle of wits. padding over to her apprentice, dappleclaw offered a strange toothy smile that looked more awkwardly menacing than nice. after all, a kind grin was hardly ever practiced by dappleclaw. "hello, darkpaw."

"Hey you," she said with a tired smile, flicking her tail in greeting. "I'm good," Honeyfur said, in response to his question. "And you?" She waited for his answer, so that they could get through the average small talk that was necessary.
The quiet camp was slowly stirring with activity, as the sun rose along with many of the clan cats. She looked around, naming the cats she could see that were awake. There was Darkpaw, Mistfall, as well as Dappleclaw. The small collection of cats, in addition to her and Wolfshadow's little group, were the only ones awake. As her gaze traveled back to Wolfshadow, she was brought out of her vigilant mood, and became excited. As if someone had flipped a switch from tired to energetic, which seemed to be Honeyfur's only two real mindsets.
"You wanna go hunting?" she asked, "I don't see Cedarstar- or Bluefur. If we can get out before they can assign patrols, we'll be okay. Rainpaw could use a break anyway, we've been working really hard." Honeyfur hoped her excuse of Rainpaw's exhaustion would work because, yes, they had been working hard, but it was likely that Honeyfur needed the break more than Rainpaw.
She wasn't even sure why she had been assigned Rainpaw. Yes, she was a warrior, but she hadn't really believed herself to be the cat for the job. Honeyfur had, however, realized a lot of her potential in the one moon she had been training the apprentice, and hoped he would turn out okay.
She glanced towards the leader's den once more and, seeing nothing, she sent a pleading glance to Wolfshadow. "He'll be up soon, we gotta hurry!" Although there was no real worry in the situation, Honeyfur was not in favor of getting talked to by Cedarstar this early in the morning.

mapleheart, an early bird by nature, had awoken before most of the cats. the warrior had spend her morning pondering lesson plans for thornpaw and listening to the forest arise from its gentle slumber. her general rule was that once the birds awake, you should be as well. mapleheart soon heard the birds celebrating a new dawn with song and stretched up to her paws. the she-cat had finally decided on plans for the day and was heading to check on thornpaw. yawning, she surveyed the camp as the padding towards the den. she saw a few campmates milling around, seemingly waiting for cedarstar or bluefur to organize patrols. her ear twitched as she thought, maybe i can get us out of patrols for the day. i feel quite guilty about having neglected thornpaw's training due to my patrol schedule. praying to starclan she wouldn't have to bite the young cat's head off to wake him, she poked her head into the apprentice's den. her tail twitched slightly with annoyance as she saw thornpaw snoring in his nest. "thornpaw, wake up. it's time for training." mapleheart tried to be patient in her chiding. "if you don't wake up, we'll be collecting moss today instead of hunting."

it wasn't a secret, really, that Ivywhisper was a night owl.
The night was always so much more peaceful than the day, giving the
medicine cat time to collect his thoughts as he watched the stars above,
always watching for a flicker of movement among them to tell him
that Starclan was keeping an eye on his clan.
Thankfully, it had been peaceful lately, the newly growing herbs restocking his supply that had run dangerously low over leaf bare, the prey returning in plenty even as the apprentices were warned away from killing any mother-prey or children-prey, told to let them grow up else there might be a shortage in the next season. Now as sunlight filled his den with warmth, the drowsy tom gave a glance around his den from where he rest in his moss den. Herbs had been plentiful this year, but he didn't doubt that more would be welcome to the clan as he surveyed his stock from where he rest on his side. With the return of the warmth, would come the return of the wasps he noted dully, gaze landing upon the small pile of blackberry leaves with a sigh. Apprentices always managed to get themselves stung, he knew, pushing himself out of his comfy moss nest. Chervil was also a popular herb in the spring, someone eating something they shouldn't and getting a stomach ache.
He'd have to tell the mentors to remind their apprentices about bees and what is prey and what should not go in your mouth. It seemed like it'd be common sense, but there was always a case of both every new-leaf, and he doubted this year would be an exception. Sitting up fully, he lifted a paw to swipe briefly over his face to clear off any moss that may have stuck to his head, heaving a bemused exhale. Maybe if he hurried he could catch a patrol; chervil grew on the borders, at least - it had last year. It should be in early bloom by now, it would be the perfect time to harvest some and it made Cedarstar nervous when Ivywhisper wandered too far from the camp by himself.
Decision made, the tabby tom rises to his feet and gives a quick shake to rid himself of any stubborn moss sticking to his pelt before snatching up a beech leaf from a nearby pile. He'd need it if he made the patrol on time; it made carrying herbs so much easier, then trotting out of his den and into the full sunlight, where he gave a content and brief purr at the warmth that brushed over him. He needed to find Cedarstar or Bluefur.

Wolfshadow's jaws stretched in a yawn, his pink tongue curling towards the back of his mouth. He mumbled "Yeah, I'm fine," around the action- or at least, he would be, once he coaxed some warmth into his bones. He'd been cold in the night, and that was probably part of the reason he'd slept so fitfully. Wolfshadow could feel the pleasant heat of the morning sun on his back now though, and though it had let to soak through his fur onto his skin he was sure his pelt would soon enough be radiating heat. This was the issue with being a dark furred, long haired cat- temperature regulation would always present a problem, and not one that he really had time to attend to. Oh well. With luck, the woods would be cooler. Wolfshadow was distracted from his thoughts by Honeyfur's suggestion. "Oh, absolutely- poor Rainpaw." The large black tom chuckled, suspecting that it was Honeyfur who needed some excitement, rather than her apprentice. Well that's what friends were for- if Honeyfur needed a short break from her duties, that's what he'd give her. They were still young cats- her more so than him- and it must be daunting for her to assume the responsibility of moulding a young cat full of potential into the best warrior he could be. Wolfshadow had no doubt that she'd do a great job, but he didn't really know how to reassure her of this. There was no reason he shouldn't go- Dappleclaw had foun Darkpaw and Mapleheart was making her way over to rouse the hapless Thornpaw. Wolfshadow rose to his feet in a single fluid moment, "Come on, quick!" He mewed, assuming the she-cat's sense of urgency and making for the camp exit. name: darkpaw

Darkpaw's search for her mentor started before it had even truly began, as she quickly spotted the calico she-cat emerging from the warrior's den. She liked Dappleclaw- while the older she-cat could be described as many things, boring was not one of them and that kept things interesting. Boredom was Darkpaw's biggest nemesis, and interaction with Dappleclaw certainly did something to combat that. She'd been training under the warrior for about two moons, and Darkpaw had definitely been seeing results. She'd always had the advantage over her brother Thornpaw in a fight, even when the two were kits, but the difference in skill had become even more noticeable since their apprenticeships had started. She'd have felt bad for him if she weren't too busy thinking of ways to accelerate her rate of improvement further. Thornpaw didn't mind, anyway- they both knew that his skills lay elsewhere. Where elsewhere was still remained a mystery to Darkpaw, but she guessed Thornpaw would figure it out soon. Anyway- Dappleclaw had reached Darkpaw now, and the warrior offered her apprentice a grin. It was similar to the ones Mistfall sometimes gave Darkpaw, but subtly different. Mistfall was mean, sure, and a ferocious warrior, but Darkpaw's older sister lacked the cunning of Dappleclaw. The black she-cat returned her mentor's greeting with a friendly blink. "Morning, Dappleclaw." Darkpaw wondered what they'd be doing today- now that she'd had a moment to wake up, the young cat was excited to get out of camp.name: thornpaw

Thornpaw had woken briefly when his sister had left the apprentices den, but the apprentice had had little trouble falling back to sleep. He'd had a cold over the past few days, and while most of the symptoms had abetted he was still feeling tired and a little washed out. Thornpaw's health was generally robust- it had been the first ailment he'd had in his short life, and as such he hadn't handled it especially well. Sure, it was unlikely that a well fed young cat would be struck down by a common cold...but Thornpaw had never been the most fortunate of cats, and he'd been a little worried. He had been reliably informed that rest was the best cure, and so Thornpaw had resolved to get even more sleep than usual- which would be a challenge, because he valued his lie ins practically above all else. Said lie in was once more interrupted by a voice- but this one, unlike Darkpaw's, could not be ignored. Thornpaw forced his eyes open, grimacing somewhat at the light streaming into the den. Mapleheart had poked her head into the den, and while she was as a rule patient with him he was sure that she must have been waiting to start the day for a while. "Sorry, Mapleheart." The apprentice mewed, scrambling to his paws and stretching out his right foreleg, which for whatever reason had become crapped in the night. "I asked Darkpaw to wake me, but she must have forgotten." While this was technically a lie- he'd never asked- Thornpaw was surprised that his sister hadn't forced him to get up when she did.
