Appearance
Emily is quite short, standing at 5’3”. She weighs 101 pounds and is quite thin and wiry, as anyone would be after spending a year wandering the desert. Her hair, reaching down to her chest, is a simple brown hue, and she has big, light brown eyes- this is about where her normal human features end. Due to sharing over 1/5 of her DNA with a bird, she has a pair of bright blue, grey, and black wings sticking out from her back which are capable of short bursts of flight. A bluish-black crest of feathers is atop her head, running from the highest point of her forehead all the way to the point where her spine and skull meet at the back of her head. Random patches of grey and blue feathers grow across her body- most notably on her torso, neck, and arms- and she's constantly picking at them, causing scabs to form. Likewise, her long legs have many random patches of greyish scales, though she rarely touches these. Because of her jay DNA, she is slightly better off in the desert than many other hybrids, being able to take the dryness a little better than some others but still suffering from the heat. She also has the ability to nearly perfectly mimic many sounds such as bird calls, other animal noises, and occasionally voices.
Personality
Emily is a very free spirit with a need for adventure, and she will despise anyone who takes her freedom away from her. Because of this, she hates the domestics and scientists with a passion, and although she's usually able to keep a level head with them, she will snap if pushed. Due to her innate love for adventure, she will often do dangerous things just for the sake of finding out what could happen. However, she has a strong maternal instinct and will go soft for children or anyone else she feels needs help and protection. She also has an even stronger survival instinct, and if she feels her safety is threatened by someone or something besides herself, she will leave as soon as possible, even if it means leaving behind valued people, objects, or resources. She will quickly form alliances, but is ultimately only loyal to herself. Emily can also be a bit of a know-it-all, but is aware of this and is constantly trying not to rudely correct people. She very rarely gets into physical fights, and always tries using reason on her opponent. However, she will gladly attack a domestic if it means staying out of the Lab for a while longer. Basically, she has a love for all things knowledge. She must know how everything works, and if it can't be explained in a way she finds fit, she likely won't believe it. Every other sentence is a question, and she will get frustrated when she doesn't receive a good answer. In fact, she yearns for answers so terribly that she will often temporarily forget about rivalries and grudges if the other person knows something she wants to learn about, and will pester them nonstop until they tell her what she wants to know. This could very well end badly for her, as it's likely her enemy won't so easily forget their rivalry. Rather hypocritically of her, she tends to get very uncomfortable whenever someone asks about herself, and has mastered the ability to quickly and sneakily change the topic. If the asker persists, she will simply ignore them, distracting herself from their questions in some way or another. Even without this pressure, she's very easily distracted and will stop talking in the middle of a conversation if something else catches her eye. She has a strange obsession with shiny or bright objects due to her jay genes, and will keep anything from spare buttons and pieces of string to bells and precious stones in a small pouch she's fashioned out of a snake skin that is hung on a cord wrapped like a belt around her waist. She is also very good under stress, able to come up with plans and backup plans in a second and keep everyone else calm. She has a very laid-back aura, and will sometimes act so indifferent and relaxed about a problem it seems she doesn't even care, but it's really just her way of keeping calm under stress.
History
Emily was born in Fresno, California, on November 1. As one might imagine, her extremely religious parents weren't too happy about having a demon bird child, and she got stuck in the foster system as soon as the doctors told them it was safest to not attempt at surgically removing her wings. She hopped from foster family to foster family her entire life, living everywhere in California from Eureka to San Diego, until she was suddenly adopted by a mysterious person just before turning 18. This person turned out to be working for the government, and had only adopted her to take her to the Dome. She's been there ever since.
