I agree with Pan, you want to look into both human anatomy and the anatomy of the animal you are combining as well. You can mix it really as you want, and there are many different combinations. (Such as the difference between plantigrade and digigrade footing)
I was going to google it for you, but I don't know any good site ratings so you're best bet is to just google the footing differences. That's probably my favorite art tidbit for anthros :3

As far as I know they do. When they first became popular it was really a fine line, but they seem much more mainstream (Not sure if that is the right word) now then they used to be. They aren't as widely recognised as furry as full anthro characters are, but I've seen them used as 'fursonas' and the like and been perfectly accepted.
That however is just my two cents. Maybe you want a third opinion?
