But what is this guy?

oh my gosh! They are adorable! These even appear to be a new lineart. Monkeys.

The monkeys are cool, but I'm more excited about the fortune cookie dogs! Sensing high hoard potential.

Also I find it entertaining that the fortune cookies, which are generally thought to be Chinese even though they're totally American, grew on lunar new year.

Common Squirrel Monkey
This is the species on which the lines are based. I chose squirrel monkeys because they seemed to fit well being based off chameleons, and they are pretty cute monkeys. I tend to find most monkey species a bit creepy, but the smaller ones are adorable!

I felt obligated to include a native Chinese monkey species, and these ones have such distinctive blue faces.

This is the year of the "red fire monkey" hence the spiky red fur. The characters on his shoulder translate to red, fire, and monkey of course!


Based on dragon dancers, large costumes puppeted by several people that weave around during parades. The real ones are ven more colorful than this monkey!


When I was asking a friend about Chinese celebrations, she mentioned poetry, so I tried to capture that with this monkey. I couldn't write a whole poem on one design, so I researched how to write Chinese New Year on the shoulder, and I found a page with a common new years greeting: "Best Wishes and Greetings, Much Wealth and Prosperity" for the coming year.

Monkeys! YAAAAAAAY! I saw them and at first I seriously thought
that they grew from the chameleons, but then I realised... Year of the Monkey! SO CUTE!!! <333
