Oooh... I love Thalia's new wig, it suits her so much! Spoiling is necessary for our special ones, I think - I'm still inclined to spoil Toshi more than anyone else. ^^

New hands are exciting too! I hope they don't take too long. ^_^

This thread may be dead, but if it's not, hi!
You can call me Gardenia (not my real name, but i wish it was lol), and i own maybe 1 ball-jointed doll? i'm not entirely sure if Makies are counted as bjds, but i am hoping to get a pullip this Christmas (specifically Pullip Nella Retro Version).

Giving this thread a little boost!

Gardenia, Ball Jointed Dolls are usually just as it says, dolls with ball-shaped joints. Usually not made of plastic like for example obitsu are. But Pullip and the likes are usually considered BJD as well even if it's just because they come from Asia too :3

Hello! I'm very new to collecting dolls, so I would like to ask for your advice.

I really REALLY want to purchase a Dollfie Dream doll. I have for quite a long time and I'm planning on getting a work permit so I can get a job to save up for one. I'm having problems find a ton of beginner's guides on them, though, so I feel like I may be walking into this a bit blind. What kind of Dollfie Dream would you suggest I purchase? I am considering on buying Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS) Mayu, but I also want to create my own custom doll, but I feel as though I am not experienced to make a custom one. I know that I could customize Mayu, but I feel as though it may be more fun to create my own. What do you suggest I do? I would prefer for the model to be DDS because it's cheaper and I think that the shorter bodies look cuter.

Please and thank you! c:

Whatever you do- follow your heart, not your wallet. I help in a store that sells BJD and I have seen it happen that people buy a doll because it's cheap, and then they sell it within half a year because they regret it, it's such a shame!

So don't be stingy. If you happen to like a doll that's a little more budget-friendly, then that's good of course, but don't let it be the deciding factor.

That aside, I have no idea just how 'custom' DD's can be. Do you send a picture of what you want and then they cast a model especially for you? I don't suppose that's the case, I have heard of very few companies that would do that because making new molds is very expensive.

So I am guessing that they are custom in the sense that it's not a completed set with faceup (face painting), eyes, wig ect? (I totally should study Volks more xD (Or perhaps not, for the sake of my wallet...))

The upside to a fullset (so one with an entirely completed doll) is that you don't need to do anything about it. Dress up and done! If you grow tired of it, you can consider new clothes, eyes, wig, or perhaps even a new faceup (They can be removed and replaced, but that's another long story xD I can explain if needed though <3).

The upside to custom is of course that you have more freedom of choice. If I were you, I would try to look through the faceup, clothes and whatnots, and at the doll only. Take your time to decide which body you like best, and which head. Because the rest you can pretty much change if you don't like it after all. The body and head sculpt, not so much.

I hope that helped a little! Sorry for the long story and if I used terms you don't get without thinking, let me know, I will gladly explain!

Thank you so much for responding! I wasn't expecting anyone to reply ;u;

But yeah, I can either build the doll myself or purchase the one that's already built and ready to be changed.

There was only one term that I didn't understand, which is "faceup"
So, what's a faceup?

I would also like to know which kind of face is better... One with closed eyeholes or open eyeholes? I've been seeing these on the Volks site a lot, but no matter how much research I do, I can't find much on which is better. I've noticed that most people use open eyeholes...

So I've been stalking this thread...god, ever since it was started?

And To be honest, I'm kind of sort of guilty of following me wallet on this one, but to be honest, it's equal parts "I don't really like the common bishie type human dolls", "i like the cuter little types", "the tiny animal ones are cute", and "I'm so. freaking. poor".

Recently I've been grinding to try and save up for this $29.60 Tam Doll Animal BJD, but when there was just a week left before they stopped selling it, it was the eleventh hour and there was no way I could get the money. Then someone in the community on tumblr swooped in and gifted me the money I needed for him! I had the four dollars to cover shipping, thank god, and my 17 Strapya World points saved 20 cents off, so in the end instead of amounting to $33.90, I only had to pay $33.70 [although really I only paid $4.70 thanks to that great person].

It was one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me and I'm so grateful for that person's kindness. Hogarth, the doll, is still in "pre-order mode" right now, so he hasn't arrived but I'm so excited. I'm working on saving up money for some Calico Critters or g4 MLP clothes to slap on him [he's 7cm tall!!!]

Here's a picture of the one I got-

There's still a week on all the other Tam Dolls, too, so I guess if you haven't seen them and you're interested go for it. They have 2 rabbit colors, like four or five cat colors, two pug colors, and I think two cavaliers, and two shi tzus.

Hey there! I just saw this thread for the first time and I figured I might as well post, since I'm just starting to get into the BJD community.

I'm saving up for my first doll right now! I'm planning to order a Minifee Mika boy from Fairyland as soon as I can gather the funds. I'm about 75% of the way there at the moment! I'm super excited because I've had my eye on this doll for the longest time and finally decided to start saving up back in January. I love the default faceup, so I'm planning to order him with that. My biggest dilemma right now is deciding whether I want him on the A-line body or the M-line body. I prefer the aesthetic of the M-line, but the A-line's articulation is better. I'm into doll photography (I've been doing it for a while with my fashion dolls - I also collect Monster High and Pullips and such), so better articulation is a plus. Decisions, decisions. Oh well.

Also, does anyone have experience ordering through Denver Doll Emporium instead of directly from the company? What are the advantages of ordering this way? I'm wondering whether I should order through DDE or Fairyland.

Anyway... Yeah! That's all I have to add to this topic. Thanks in advance for any responses! ^_^
