She slowly crawled out of the bushes, embarrassed by being caught she whimpered and tilted her head in curiosity. who are you? she thought. She wanted to speak but she didn't. Her ears stood fully erect on her head and she kept the distance between them. She stood completely still. Though, not
submissively, in case he wanted a fight.

Oh goodness gracious. Inwardly he felt as if he might shrivel away, and his tiny pieces go with the wind. That, actually, would be a relief. Taking another step back, his legs tensed even more. A former warrior. The best of his pack, reduced to sniveling, fearful rogue. It didn't help Tholl in the slightest that the fae whined to show she meant no harm, yet seemed so calm. Like, this was her territory. But, with such contradictory body language he could never be sure. Deciding to at least check before he fled, the brown wolf stood his ground, finally. Am I trespassing? he asked, wishing his voice hadn't cracked at the end. The lack of water was really beginning to show at this point. But, it would all be over soon. If she were to reply no although they were in pack territory, it was safe to assume she didn't consider this her territory, and thus was a loner like himself. However... so deep within the territory, and her calm nature... Tholl's lip curled a bit, more out of fear than aggression. Perhaps the choice to hunt first thing instead of wander in search of a better territory was a bad choice.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Varien had been up for awhile. Not hunting, no resting and gazing at the beautiful autumn. He had been out, a few mere meters away from the entrance of the camp. Training in the art of combat. It was his greatest strength indeed, hunting being a very close second. However, his greatest strength had a glaring weaknesses. The bane of his existence, his cursed left eye. The pearl student knew it was his greatest weakness, not only in fighting or hunting, but in tracking as well. He relied heftily on his other senses, which in turn would make sense. However, if a more experience opponent realized - which, of course, they would - he would no doubt be slew for his weakness.
So he was working on it. His mentor wasn't awake yet, and Varien had no intentions of waiting for him, or going out with another wolf. Considering today he had awoken with the left side of his face hurting - yes, it hurt from time to time, although he never told anyone just as he had never told them how he'd gotten it - he felt even more agitated and aggressive than usual. And no, he didn't feel like hearing his mentor or alpha's scoldings if he released what they would call a 'snide' or 'inappropriate' comment at another wolves expense. So, he was putting his efforts to a more rewarding task - training. Sparring with invisible figures, practice his snaps and evades and quick bites. Whenever his mentor awoke, Varien would hear it. His mentor was a very cordial, popular wolf, contrary to himself. Good mornings and greetings were sure to flow abundantly, and Varien would hear every last one of them. Then, he could recieve his assignment for the day. Narrowing his single right chocolate eye, the silver wolf lunged forward at an invisible opponent with surprising speed and strength for one of his build, his jaws snapping so hard around his imaginary 'opponent' that they could be hard making contact together. It wasn't hard to see something was bothering him, for he was never so 'barbaric'. However, lucky Varien, no one was around to question him on his odd behavior.
That was, until a few moments ago. A stunned fae voice, flustered, stammered out the name of his mentor. No doubt his mentor was idling away. The silver brute cared naught for such foolishness - he continued his snapping until eventually, the boredom of not seeing any blood or flesh fly crept it. Sitting down, Varien began to groom his slightly rumpled pelt, taking great care to untangle any mats that had took up residence in his lush coat. Yet, in that simple action, all peace that had once been there faded. He could hear the activity begin, and before his dark hued ocean orb Alue, his alpha, strode out into the territory. Not too long after, the howls and yips filled with nativity that signified the awakening of his fellow students permeated the once still air. Distaste filled Varien, yet he didn't let it display. Why waste the energy? It wasn't benefiting anyone. When they breezed by, howling in those high-pitched voices and thundering through the forest, Varien's lip curled in the slightest before it fell. What was taking his mentor so long? He hadn't hunted just for an early morning training opportunity, when the wolves were slumbering and the forest was clear. So much for that.
Deciding to grab some prey and perhaps get on a patrol should his beta call one, Varien entered the camp, padding towards the prey pile. Seeing nothing except for the large deer, which he had no taste for, the student padded towards the student's den and sat. Watching. Perhaps many would think of just sitting there as a boring task, but, it was useful in the future. There were a lot of things one could pick up from simply observing the habits of others. And, Varien would use that full well. After all, what else could he do with his time?

As the two females weaved through the trees, Raika kept her ears and eyes alert. Due to her small size, she was able to trot along without causing an enormous amount of noise. The leaves still crunched under each step, but it was much softer than if she had been running or if she was heavier. She liked to think that her small size made her a better hunter, though catching large prey always proved to be difficult unless she had someone to help. Thankfully, if they came across the scent of any deer, she had Raize along with; the other fae was a good hunter as well, and she was grateful for her presence.
The gray fae caught the scent of the rabbit just as Raize did, her eyes darting immediately to the almost hidden holes where the rabbits entered and exited their burrows. She nodded silently to Raize, marking the areas along with her fellow hunter. She stopped when Raize did, her head cocking slightly to the side as she wondered what the female was doing. The scent of rats immediately entered her nostrils, her lips pulling back at the scent. Raika looked around hurriedly, trying to find the rodents before they found her. She spotted them a few feet away and immediately backed up, hoping they wouldn't start in their direction. "Let's go," she whispered, continuing to back away.

The loner's blood sang, his heart pounding in his chest with the thrill of their small battle. A grin of excitement had appeared on his muzzle, his golden eyes coming alive for that small moment of time as they fought. She had managed to position herself on top of him, onyx black and gray/tan fur melding as she leaned down to snap at his throat. He felt her teeth graze the fur there, his heart pausing mid beat as he waited for her canines to sink into the delicate skin. They didn't, and he realized that maybe she had gotten the memo that they weren't doing this to harm one another, or at least he hoped she did. It was as if they were doing this to see what they were both capable of; slowly knocking down the boundaries that had originally divided them. Either way, he was thrilled to be participating in a fight once again, whether it was bloody or not. He highly enjoyed the thrill, as did she it seemed; he could hear her heart pounding in her chest, just as his was. They were both loving this, whether they would admit it or not.
Just as she pulled back, the loner took control of the moment. Straightening both his front and hind legs, he pushed up into her underside, meticulously rolling her over so that she was lying on the ground and he was towering over her. His legs were planted on either side of her, his claws digging into the ground. His maw open, he immediately went for her throat, right where that delicate skin hovered over the jugular. He could hear the rush of blood singing through her veins. He didn't bite the skin, merely nipped at the fur along her throat; it wasn't a hard or vicious nip, more almost on the tender side. His muzzle slid up to her ear as he exhaled, whispering in her ear, "You can continue with the facade, Alue, but it's not going to get you anywhere." Altair then pulled back so that he was looking straight down at her, his golden gaze digging into her's.

~I swear,
He's enjoying this...
He's loving this...
~Told ya,
~The rogue was egging for a fight~
~He started it~
~He broke~
~He couldn't handle your smart-mouth~
~He lost the challenge~
~And you're still a civil, responsible
Alpha...
...But...
...I swear he's grinning...
...Why on earth is he grinning??
~Wow.
~Oh, and looki' there~
~Seriously~
~Laughing~
~You're laughing, Alue~
...
...Was that a giggle?
-She had been holding her composure for a moment, teeth bared and lips peeled back into one of those menacing, lethal snarls...muzzle all wrinkled and ears all pinned back... -It sure had seemed threatening enough to get a mere brute to back away...to back off... -Though it was obvious he hadn't fully understood that memo...
-The only memo's he'd actaully been able to process were simple, mental games...guessing games...games of self control and pure mockery...
-And right now...they were still, quite surprisingly, playing.
-The minute Alue had reared her face back, the rogue had taken advantage- skillfully kicking at her underside and propelling her small, flimsy body downward, her horizon spinning once again and her tail flying out from behind her like a flare...tumbling into the dust, the grass... Black, ebony legs barred all four sides- and soon enough- the shadow was on her, teeth glinting in the light, eyes piercing her somewhat blinded gaze... -Alue could feel the blood pummeling in her veins...roaring in her ears and hiccuping with that rush of adrenaline...that deafening pause as he lunged for her throat...
~No---
...And...a-and...
~...Oh,
Thank goodness...
-The cuff of his teeth merely grazed that soft, ruffled tan fur exposed along the line of her neck...the bite more of a goading, taunting nip...one a mother might give to an obnoxious pup...one a mentor might give to a disobedient student...one a tenacious rogue was giving to a mocking alpha... -No harm, no damage... -Just... Scare.
Scowling, she had immediately ducked her head away...squirming and wriggling to find a better position... -Her senses almost burning as she felt his maw touch her ever so tender ears...along with a warm, exhaled breath and daunting words...something so harsh and negative...something so controlling and powerful...and then- t-then...she just couldn't help herself...
-The fae laughed. Quite literally, laughed. The sound slipped past her lips humorously, rippling high up in her chest and coming out with an almost musical giggle...chiming... -Alue could hardly breath...the fact that he was staring with those umber eyes only making it so much worse...
-Gritting her teeth together, she forced herself to drag in some air...to at least snuffle the sound and regain some of her composure...
...And for a second, that's all she did...
-As she sucked in her third whiff of calm, peaceful air...Alue moved. She snapped her jaws around the tendon of his paw- crushing it just for a moment before dipping her nose downwards- weaving her head from under to in-between the loner's front left leg and his hind left leg- elitely wedging herself and skillfully escaping the trap... Her small, lieth body slipping away...
Yelping as she tried to find a sense of balance, she scrambled to her feet.
"Oh, facade, yeah, got it- Try giving me a life lesson right after you tackle me to the dirt. How nice of you."

As she began to laugh almost maniacally, the black brute cocked his head to the side, confused. She had apparently, clearly taken his words the wrong way as she was just laying there laughing about it. A puzzled expression appeared on his face for a moment before it was once again masked by the emotionless facade. He was still deeply puzzled by the sound of her laugh, though as the giggles reached his ears, they were almost musical. He hadn't heard a laugh other than his own in years it seemed, and it was something very different for him. He liked the sound, though he would never admit it to her face; liking something was a weakness and always led to more, which was then followed by pain.
Lost in his thoughts, he missed the complete turnaround in her expression, as she went from giddy to stone-cold silent. That silence was followed by a sharp pain to his left paw causing an immediate return to reality. It took him a moment to realize that she had bitten, yes bitten his paw and was working her way out from under his body. A snarl rippled from his throat, his head turning to snap at the end of her tail as she scurried away. The golden iris of his eyes had turned hard, cold as he snapped at the air once again. His injured paw slammed back down to the ground, pain radiating up his leg but he ignored it for he had felt much more intense pain before. The loner's eyes flashed up to meet Alue's as she regained her balance, his golden orbs boring into her's. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, she had just pissed him off. What had begun as mere scare tactics had turned into actually hurting one another, though he had yet to hurt her. He wanted to, deeply and truly wanted to get back at her for his now painful paw, but he just stood there inhaling and exhaling slowly, his eyes closed. His blood pressure and heart rate had escalated and he was trying to calm himself down before he did anything irrational like actually make the fae bleed. If it had been anyone else, he might have let his temper fly, but he was desperately trying not to. Clearly by her words, she hadn't taken what he had said in a positive way; he had just managed to annoy her even more. Opening his eyes, Altair's gaze landed back on her's as he took the few steps needed to get right in front of her face. He stared at her for a minute, before speaking, his voice low, "You can taunt me, you can push me, you can ridicule me, but I'm done being a part of whatever game you're trying to play here. You can let me in or, you can chase me away. Your choice, Alue."

...You make the earth shake,
And then somehow pray you won't fall off~
...Her mother's words growled bitterly in her ear...as if she possibly wanted them right now...
~As if you can want anything right now...
~Especially after that...
~Especially after what that brute just said...
~After the way he's...he's...
...
~Does no-name honestly want you to reply to that?
...
~Can you reply to that??
...Like...anytime soon?
Is he judging you, right now??
She could feel her instincts rattle deep within her belly...her stomach writhling uncomfortably...the back of her rump only inches away from, quite pitifully, tucking her tail... Her ears still flat against the butt of her head...
The black brute seemed to have been wrattled...everything about him now tense and dangerous...his sleek, onx fur cackling with a pent-up anger...clamped up fury and stone, bitter eyes...cold...
-For some strange, off reason- she payed much more attention now to the pain radiating in waves about him... -Such as the small, wettened ring around his left tendon, right at the base of his heel and paw... -Though she certainly hadn't drawn blood...she'd definitely pushed immense pressure on the skin...enough for his weight to send bullets of pain up his leg- enough for him to visibly wince...even after trying to hide it.
-Alue could feel her lip curl, the idea sending chills trickling down her back...though why, she didn't know. Something about watching a wolf tremble and brake and hold it in...something about watching him crush those umber eyes shut...
Slow, steady seconds passing by...
Just one...
Just two...
Three...
Four...
...It took him a minute...and she was patient. Her legs now well balanced and agile beneath her, her yellowed gaze resting on his shoulders skeptically, her ears focused solely on the shadow looming only a paws-length away... When he did come around, it was with controlled, congregated purpose... His suddenly close proximity making her thoughts slow and whirl with a newfound confusion...
...And, with all the things she could say- with everything she needed just to throw an amusing smile, everything to find the right words---
~Let you in?
~You've given him plenty, Alue~
~Ha, he even knows your name~
~I 'wander' who told him that~
~Choices, now?
Taunt you?
~A pleasure~
Push you?
~My delight~
Ridicule you?
~Lovely~
~So, you have discovered there's a game involved~
~Congradulations, Einstein...
~Hmm, you know--
-She swallowed, hard, gulping that lump at the back of her throat... -For a moment the fae had seriously parted her maw, starting to say something in retaliation, starting the slightest begining of some word-- the start of, "-Is there an option three, too?'-- and yet...she just...swallowed it.
...Blinking several times...Alue quietly steered her gaze back over to his...her deep, umber eyes now meeting his...steady yellow against piercing amber... She'd quieted her thoughts by now...making a thorough, less complicated decision...her voice struggling to find some sort of strength.
...Because...
...With all truth...what he had said-
...It slightly hurt.
"...If I wanted to chase you away, I would've let you know. Trust me, this, right now, is my limit. When you become a part of my pack, when you become someone I understand and know- ...I'll let you in."

Those unrelenting golden hued eyes watched her closely, trying to find any breakdown in her facade. At one point she faltered, the sound of her choking down a gulp and her eyes almost giving him something before she blinked and the emotion vanished. It looked as if she was going to say something, but she didn't. Maybe she was actually thinking about what she was going to say this time, he thought, looking at her curiously with his head tilted slightly off to the side. She looked back up at him then, her gaze as unwavering as ever. She was so alike to him, and it slightly scared the black brute. Though, it completely explained why he was a loner. What it did not explain was how she was the alpha of her pack. How do you lead a pack of so many wolves alone? He supposed that her complete and utter control of everything worked well for that position, but her lack of emotion would lead to a divide between her and her pack members. But he was no expert; maybe she was just fine as a leader. And maybe it was best if she led alone. She didn't seem to have any interest in knowing anyone or anything really, so why she had wasted her time on some loner was mind boggling to him. Regardless, he would take whatever she was willing to give at the moment.
Altair was wondering if she was ever going to say anything as the moments ticked by, his ears flicking back and forth, one ear turning to catch her voice when she finally did speak. Golden eyes flashed to her's immediately as he listened intently. As she neared the end of her statement, a smile slowly crept into his muzzle. Lowering his head slightly he began to walk in a circle around where she stood, his sleek onyx tail billowing out behind him in the breeze. His eyes would flash to her's for a moment before they would focus on the ground in front of where he walked. The black brute continued walking around her for a few moments, his ears playing as he stepped. The pain in his paw had become bearable, basically numb from the constant pressure. "So you're saying I, a loner, should join your pack so that you can get to know me?" he asked, a slight teasing edge to his voice. But then he paused his walking, stopping right in front of her once again. He looked at her quizzically, his voice taking on a more serious tone as he said, "You do realize that I have been a loner almost all of my life. I do not know or understand how a pack operates. I also have a very difficult time working with others, as you can about imagine." He stopped talking then, his eyes fixating on something in the distance just past her shoulder. His ears pricked forward, he swore he could hear something or someone barreling through the trees but he couldn't be sure. Finally, he looked back down at her again, his expression clear and open. "If I were to consider this, what rank would you give me, Alpha?" he asked with complete seriousness, curious as to what her answer would be. If she thought he was going to join her pack and take orders from anyone, she was wrong. He'd been a loner way to long to be brought down to that level. Maybe he was too arrogant, but he also knew what he was capable of and what rank he had originally been born to hold.

...As she finished her statement, the fae couldn’t help but pause...a little uncertain by her choice of words. They didn’t have that usual, sarcastic flare to them or that mocking tone of amusement....her cocky, persistent personality for once absent, gone...nothing but fact rolling off her tongue. It was…
-Odd.
-Different.
-Strange.
-Weird.
...Out of her comfort zone…
...As if the mere lack of humor left her exposed; vulnerable to something invisible and unseen…
~So what?
Blinking, she watched the loner...the way the corners of his maw slowly pulled up and cracked into a rewarding smile...the way he seemed to approve… -And despite everything she wanted to tell herself...she knew exactly what he was thinking. Her mind seemed to easily latch onto the same idea...her dark, shaded eyes an intelligent, skeptical yellow up against his…
...Rotating her head around and watching him tread that border around her, slinking slightly out of her peripheral…
~...Guess the brute’s figured out you’re the Alpha~
~It’s not that hard to tell, Alue~
~It’s in the very way you breath~
...
...You are, the daughter of Ash and Asale~
~The one and only…
...The image of her birth parents flittering back into the depths of her mind sent cold, bitter and disgusted chills down the line of her spine… Alue had always been a splitting image of her mother, Asale, having her same creamy, dusty fur and tanned grey coat...that same small, lieth build of a beautiful fae… -Though, Alue also mirrored her father, sharing that marred, rusty tinge of russet and his delicate, well curved muzzle…
…
...She had to have been their pup, there was no doubt, really...it’s just that the two alpha’s had such a different, calm and collected nature about them. She had such a different voice and tone compared to them, the roll of her tongue having a sense of luscious persuasion and mockery, her eyes doing things that other wolves would never notice or see…hidden with an odd shot of insecurity…
...Born into a role that only somewhat suited her…
~You better hope it suits you,
Running her tongue slyly over the rim of her teeth, she cocked her head slightly to the side, finding that foxish glitter of authority sparking in her eyes…
-Though her jaw remained honest.
Mere facts, mere opinion…
Nothing swayed…
~If he wants ‘open’...
”...Simple, actually. I’d have you start out as a student, at least for a few days- where you’d be able to grip the concept of a pack and it’s rules...and...the fact that your Alpha has broken just about every one of them, including what she's doing right now... -I doubt I’d rank you as a hunter- because, if you did, actually, have some sort of knack for it...these here ribs of yours wouldn’t be showing, and you would have certainly caught that hare before I did,”
She scoffed gently, gesturing over to his dirtied side with her nose.
”...If you’re anything like me, you’re a fighter. You're aggressive and have talent for throwing opponets off their game...supposedly.
...Truth is, though...none of that matters. I dont give ranks. You earn them.”

The onyx loner watched as her umber eyes took on that distant, far-off look once again, alerting him to the fact that she was getting lost in her own thoughts again. Sometimes he thought that seeing someone like this put them in a more vulnerable and open state than merely talking. When you became lost in your own thoughts, it was hard to control the expressions that rose up into your eyes or even your face. As she stared blankly ahead, lost in the depths of her mind, he watched intently, noticing as her mouth twitched and multiple different emotions flashed across the depths of her eyes. He wondered what was going on in that thick head of her's though he knew he had no right to ask, not yet, not now. She was a mystery, and it was going to be a while before he could solve the puzzle that made up Alue. Like the flip of a switch, she came back to life right in front of his eyes, that arrogant spark replacing any emotion she had unintentionally been showing in her eyes. The loner listened as she spoke, the cool fall breeze snaking up under his fur. At her first statement, he almost, almost, burst out laughing. She wanted to make him a student? Oh, and then she just had to keep running that mouth of her's by insulting him, implying that he couldn't hunt. Mhmm....the sarcastic princess is back, he thought, his eyes narrowing at the implications of her words. The princess, or maybe the queen now that he knew she was the Alpha, did manage to get one thing right: he was a fighter, and a good one at that. He'd defended and protected himself for nearly 2 and a half years, and in doing so, had learned plenty of tactics useful in the midst of a fight. Regardless, he still couldn't get over the student comment.
Altair stared at her, hard, trying to figure out if she was serious. Seeing no real mockery in her expression, he came to the conclusion that she was 100% serious. A student? If she makes you a student, there's no way you're going to put up with it, right? he thought to himself. If that's the case, you might as well just implode from mockery now. His black head tilted to the side as he ran his tongue over his canines, trying to figure out what the best way to approach this delicate situation was. Sure, she was the Alpha, and being an Alpha you generally had control. And sure, he should start out low on the totem pole since he was a newcomer, but she also had some say in the situation, whether she wanted him to "earn" his rank or not. If that was the case, he'd show her right now that he could hunt and fight. But there was no way he was going to be a student, no way. "You're kidding me, right, princess? A student? Really? I may be new to the whole pack thing, but I'm no idiot," he scoffed right back at her. The brute took a step closer to her, his muzzle near inches from her's as he continued, "If you don't think I can hunt, I'll prove to you right now that I can.

As Acheron watched the fae he was unaware of how to approach, scaring her wasnt a good idea, neither was completely letting his guard down. Deciding it was best to just walk out, he made sure to shift his back paw loudly on the crumbling leaves behind him, as to not completely surprise her. As he approached ehr and the stone she was laying on he lowered his head, watching the white fae carefully. He knew she wasnt from the pack, as he made sure to know everyone in the pack at least my face and scent, so she must be a loner. "Who are you?" he asked quietly, but firmly. He wasn't one for being rude even to loners and trespassers.

Nephthys awoke with a yawn, her black pelt being warmed by the rays of sun around her. She was never one for sleeping in dens if she didn't have to, the confined space made her skittish. But as she stretched lazily in the morning light she noticed the movement around her. The pack was waking, and she must have slept longer than most. Shrugging, she rose, yawning again. The morning was never her favorite, and most of the pack knew not to talk to her for a few hours yet, as she was known for being grumpy. Nephthys padded silently to the kill pile, lowing her head slightly, but respectfully, at her Beta, but otherwise ignoring the wolves around her.
Rᴀɴᴏᴡʏɴ
Male | 3 Years | Loner |No crush/mate | Tags; XxX
Ranowyn walked leisurely through the trees around him, admiring the colors of the leaves as he did. He knew he was on pack territory, but wasn't particularly worried about the pack. as he walked he picked up the slight scent of a rabbit and his stomach rumbled. being a loner but also a bad hunter has never been good for the brute, since his last meal was at least two days ago. Taking a breath, he followed the scent, hoping not to lose the rabbit. As he followed, he kept his ears perked for anyone else around him who might notice the scent also, he was not about to lose his food to someone else. When the rabbit came in sight, he sighed with relief. The rabbit was facing away, in a clump of roots. As he crept up on the rabbit he stepped on a small twig, he froze. the rabbit perked up but seemed to not be perturbed by the sound, so he crept slowly closer again. When he got a few feet away he put on a burst of speed, catching the rabbit by the neck. The young brutes satisfaction rose and he sat down to enjoy his meal.

Freya stood normally, easing her body into a comfortable stance watching the brute before her. With a nod of her head she looked at his mouth and heard the crack in his voice. She looked at the lake not too far from the pair and started to walk towards it. She didn't mind if he followed or not, but she needed some water herself. As she walked her tail swayed behind her, the female's ears stood normally on her head and she bent her head down to lap up some water.
Stopping for a second she looked up, her hawk-like eyes spotting a rabbit not far away. With a light shrug of her shoulders she began to drink again. Her fur twitched and she shook her pelt sitting to itch a spot on her neck. Biting her foot for fun she stopped and looked onto the water at the reflection of the waving trees. The wind blowing through her lightly colored pelt.
