Shadowpatch was on the verge of passing Crystalheart when his paw landed in a small dip he hadn't expected. He stumbled but managed to stay upright, though he'd lost most of his speed and for the next couple of paces his paw twinged a little. He was definitely going to lose, and he'd been so close! "Gah, you're going to win!" he called as he tried vainly to catch up to the white she-cat.

Tempeststar dipped his head to the medicine cat and then left to bring the prey he'd caught to his mate and kits. "I got you a nice fresh squirrel," he meowed as he entered their den.

Copperkit let out a loud mewl at the sound of his father's voice.

Boapaw slunk into the den. "Hi Ravenwing," she greeted the black cat. "I tore some fur out when I was hunting, would you be able to take a look at it?" she explained, pointing her tail at the raw patch of skin where her fur had been ripped away by that confounded thorn bush.

Spiritfire's features tightened. [/i]She's not very good at this- you mousebrain she's your apprentice, teach her don't judge her![/i] He silently berated himself for thinking poorly of the young cat after all she was just learning this new technique, there was no way she'd get it on her first few goes. "You're moving all wrong. Here, let me show you again," he meowed as he got up and moved over to her. He dropped into the crouch and moved a few steps forward. "Put all of the weight in your back legs, and hold your tail higher it will give you more balance," the young mentor advised.

Ravenwing looked over Boapaw and ran her tongue over the patch, cleaning it a bit. "It doesn't seem too bad, just some minor tears in the skin. Here," she meowed, grabbing some marigold leaves and rubbing some gently into the patch. "This should help it heal faster and stop any pain." Ravenwing finished rubbing it and put the now-dry leaves into the toss-away pile.

Crystalheart skidded to a stop at the river, panting heavily. As she waited for Shadowpatch to catch up, she laid down on the cool ground and took a drink from the stream. "Maybe that wasn't such a good idea," she chuckled as she tried to catch her breath. "How about we rest here for a while before hunting? That run wore me out!"

Twistedstar has gotten back to her nest right before her mate had come back. those mousebrain Warriors, thinking they can bother my loyal shadows and get away with it! I have to suck up to the living, though. I guess. she sighed a little before looking up at her mate. "Thank you! We're famished! Want to share?" She asked, hungrily eyeing the prey.

Boapaw nodded and sighed tiredly. She mowed her thanks and then made her way into the clearing, flopping down on her uninjured to side to nap.

Tempeststar purred but shook his head. "No I'm fine thanks love," he told her. He licked the top of her head and sat down to groom his fur.

I should be doing better than this, Dawnpaw berated herself silently, watching Spiritfire show her again. She tried again, this time thinking of the tips he'd given her, and stalked forward again. She was able to go a good bit faster and her form wasn't nearly so terrible, though it was still not perfect. It was good, though, and she felt the technique work for her, though she would need more experience to perfect it.

Shadowpatch nodded in agreement. "Yeah, maybe a little bit. I could use a cool-off." He meowed, sliding into the stream, lapping up a little, then climbing back out to dry off. "That feels so nice." He sighed as water pooled underneath him. He turned toward Crystalheart to shake himself out, so the droplets went spraying off to his sides, not toward her.

Spiritfire nodded as he watched. "Okay good. Let's try a fake hunt," he suggested. He picked up some leaves and moss and bundled them together. He placed them at the edge of the clearing. "Try two more times then we'll see if you can catch a real squirrel."

Dawnpaw nodded, cheering up somewhat at the prospect of actually hunting. She focused on one of the clumps of forest litter and crouched again, feeling herself move into the right position a little more naturally now, gliding across the ground until she was close enough to leap. The actual leap was easy enough; she pinned the first moss-leaf-ball, causing it to break up a little. She circled away, back in the new stalking position until she could leap to pin the second fake squirrel. She looked up at Spiritfire. "How'd I do?" She asked, uncertain whether she had a right to be as pleased with herself as she actually was.

Twistedstar purred. "Thank you, my love." She mewed, diving into the prey.

Spiritfire nodded approvingly. "Much better." He got to his paw and flicked his tail. "Okay, now try it on a real squirrel. I'll be watching but you won't see me," he meowed.

Tempeststar smiled. "How about I take the kits out for a bit?" he suggested. He wanted to show his lovely sons off to the clan. He sighed happily as he looked at them, they looked so much like their mother.
