"Alexa and Liza? No idea." Stated Milo with a shrug. "Probably somewhere having supper." He squinted at the setting sun, then added, "Like we should be doing." He popped his head into the crew's quarters where Ella was drinking rum and asked, "Do you want anything to eat? I'm cooking supper." He looked back at Ingo. "And I know just what to make. Skilly an' duff!"

"Yeah," said Milo, looking down at the desk as he scuffed a bare foot across the smooth, dark boards. He looked up at Ingo with a sheepish grin, and said, "Me mum died when I was six, and me da didn't want me. So..." he shrugged. "You know how it goes."

"Boyfriend left, did he?" chuckled Milo, heading to the kitchen. "If you're looking for a new one," he called from the doorway, "I suggest you look somewhere else." He shut the door and opened the portholes to let in a bit of light, then struck a match and blew the embers in the stove to life. The boy grabbed the leftovers from the pantry and poured it all into a bowl, creating a random mix of sweet and savory, salted and sour. Then he threw what was left of their fruit in a pot and stuck it on the stove, pushing the hodgepodge skilly into the squat black oven.

"He didn't leave me, and i know he will come back but, you see, he's in the Navy and he didn't know when he was coming back so one morning he just went without a word, i suppose he didn't want to get my hopes up but I miss him" She said this time more defensively, William was a good man and she knew it.

"Can't hear you over the sound of exploding skilly!" shouted Milo, bursting out of the kitchen, followed by a plume of greasy yellow smoke that smelt of burned noodles. The front of his clothing was splattered with red, so it looked like he had been stabbed. The boy looked down, saw himself, and chuckled. "It's the duff, I'm afraid. And the skilly sort of... um, exploded."
[By the way, he's always been an awful cook, so Ella is free to hassle him about it since she's known him for a while.]

Ingo laughed to herself, Milo is quite mad she thought and obviously not the best of cooks but nice all the same. "As i was saying, He didn't leave me, he's in the Navy so works at odd times and one morning he just went so as not to get my hopes up, but i really do miss him so" She said protectively, William would never lie to her, he was a wonderful man.
