Reflection

Postby Caela » Sun Jan 03, 2016 11:44 am

Just a little doodle! c: I was too lazy to color the wolf, oops. XD The title only makes sense to me, I imagine; I named it for what I was thinking about while I worked.

I did it in two sittings (background yesterday, wolf today), but my pen pressure kept cutting out so I would have to save and reload. xP The number of sessions above is off by a few.

Anyway, this was super fun and relaxed, and I think it's okay... Different, but not bad. :) I like the coloring-over-the-lines thing.

It's pretty simple, and I'm really glad you like it! c: I basically just copy the color layer and color it over with something like a dark brown or blue(I use the color to help set the mood.) This is done with lock alpha on, of course. Then I set it to multiply, turn down the opacity, and start using the eraser tool to remove color in roughly fur-shaped strokes, following the direction of the fur. Remember to turn off lock alpha before you do this. When that's finished, I use the smudge tool and blur the colored and uncolored areas, again following the direction of the fur. I repeat this entire process until it looks about right. Sometimes I'll add one more multiply layer and then just airbrush in a few darker areas.
Hopefully that helps! :)

It was more like 2 hours, lol. I tend to draw a lot more quickly when I'm doing personal art than commissions; I guess that's because there's not a standard to live up to and no one to disappoint except myself. It's a good stress-reliever! c:
Pfff, don't loose faith in yourself! Just draw a lot more than seems remotely normal, healthy or reasonable, and you'll get there. ^^

The background is absolutely gorgrous, and I love the shadow of the wolf! The fur texture is amazing as well.
