Also they were having a 40% off sale on breyer (good things come to those who wait, I guess!), so I also got the Dartmoor mare and foal set and two stablemates..looks like i'm congaing the haflinger mare![]()

I still have my MLPs from my childhood lol, I can't bear to part with my horses & ponies.
So I have confirmed the Schleich horse I have a duplicate of, and have been checking up tutorial sites for customising Breyers since they seem to be much more popular - many start with sanding though. Do you think it's ok to repaint a Schleich without sanding? I don't plan to show him or anything so the logo at the bottom doesn't really bother me but I'm wondering if there are other reasons one sands. I'm just afraid of ruining the lovely coat texture he has.
As for colours I'm still thinking about a black leopard appaloosa, I'll practice painting the spots on paper first as I'll probably be using acrylics after the oils have dried and acrylics dry super fast so I don't want to mess them up. For the oils I'm going to try painting straight from the tube rather than mixing with linseed oil or turps, I'm hoping to blend as I paint so only do one layer of oils but since it's a pinto I'm covering I guess I'll have to do a priming layer of white first - I'll give it a long time to dry so hopefully it won't be a problem. I might paint something on a canvas with the oils first though, to get a feel for them before trying them out on a model horse.
On an unrelated note, I have two stablemate breyers still in their plastic packaging from when I bought them a few years ago. Should I continue to keep them in this, or is it bad for them to stay in there? I think it's these ones:
Black Appy Mustang
Light Grey Peruvian Paso
