I Needed A Hero, but I'd Never Tell [Done]

Postby Captain Chomp » Tue Jan 05, 2016 2:06 pm

Rudolph lay against the fencing of his paddock, keeping far from the walkway that filled with shouting children and laughing teens, his ears flat to his head as a stable hand approached him. Mixed with the snow, the pain in his nose and headache from the screaming kids Rudolph was in a worse mood than normal. "Easy there," he heard from the older man approaching slowly, knees bent with a lead rope behind his back, as if Rudolph couldn't see it. Snorting he climbed to his feet beginning to toss his head, scraping at the ground.

Now the noise grew louder and the ground seemed to grow further from him and panic seized him rising from the ground he reared, eyes wide with the whites showing. It was terror inside him from the noise and the frightening images he saw. "Easy, please boy," the man called but this simply startled him more and he came down, hooves crashing down against the stable hand before he tried to get away from everything. Rudolph just wanted to cry out for help, but pride wouldn't let him and realization no one cared hit him like a truck.

More people approached him now outfitted with ropes and one with a tranquilizer gun sending waves of fear into his body. It crippled him and soon the chimeric stallion was bowing on his front knees before just dropping down. The fire in his eyes pooled in white and his skin rippled with shivers. "Leave me alone," he whined though no one would understand or hear him.

With a gentle hand a lead was clipped to his halter as well as a second one so two people could hold him, one on either side while they lead him to a stall, clearing people from their path and hushing them. The stall was silent, the horses there calm and never rowdy the silence a perfect gift to his pained state. Beside him Rudolph was in to much agony to notice his friend, Cap resided in the stall to the left of him. That was the only person despite two barn dogs that seemed to like him, somehow. "Roo," Cap nickered hanging his head over the stall wall to look at him, eyes sad.

His head lifted slightly eyes searching for the body the voice belonged to. "Hey Cap'tn," he chuckled shaking himself. 'No I'm not weak he can't know this.' He scolded himself harshly.

"I told you Roo, it's Cap," the blue roan spoke in a sweet and gentle voice. "Never mind that is everything okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine," Rudolph shot off in a guarded tone shifting away from the other stallion ears sticking to his head.

A heavy sigh escaped the roan as he retreated back to his own stall. "Alright," he said picking himself up as quickly as he could without a fault in his step. "I just was curious."

Rudolph didn't answer instead he tucked his head against his neck still annoyed and grouchy. He hated being asked if he was okay. Guilt still tugged at him enough to lift his head and look over at where Cap had been standing. After all he put up with a lot of crap from himself just so he could be a friend to the chimeric. Still he said no apology to the other and just sulked by himself.

Hours had passed as Rudolph had found himself in his imagination again a replay of earlier, but amped up to ten times worse. The sounds pounded his ear drums like a monsoon and everything around him was twisted and out of shape, he couldn't shake the images, he was trapped with no where to go. "Help me! Someone help me please!" He cried out beginning to thrash about scrambling to his feet, head hitting the hay rack as he did. Other around became somewhat spooked while others just went on ignoring the stallion. "Cap'tn!" He whined knowing already he wasn't there and that was the only reason he'd even said his name.

Rudolph wasn't the one to admit his emotions not even to his only true friend. He was the grouchy and he needed to stay that way to everyone. He was too prideful to admit he needed someone's help. Even in this way all he did was weakly call for the other stallion, anxiously pawing the ground and thrashing his head fighting to free himself from the hell sent imaginations he conjured up in his mind, his own, home made nightmares. As they slowly released him from their iron grip he bowed on his knees and curled against himself. His body shivered several times before he finally calmed moving to stand slowly and watching the barn doors.

Hoof steps echoed from the entry of the barn as a horse was lead back and his head shifted up as Rudolph caught sight of a shiny roan coat, fitted over a muscular build. A falcon seemed to scoop up the grouch's heart at the sight, but his face never showed the tell of his happy mood. "You look like you've been worked rather hard their Cap'tn."

The roan turned his head bobbing his head slightly elegant blue eye's illuminating with a sense of joy. "Just some bigger jumps than normal. Some were pretty tricky, but actually it was fun, total work out though. "Maybe you'll get taken out for a ride," he said as he walked back into his stall with no complaints.

Course the chimeric shook his head. "No I rather they just left me to my rest."

"You always have wish for that," Cap just sighed sticking his head over the stall side to nudge Rudolph gently. "It's so much fun though to go out there and work as a team."

A splash of ill tasting water is how Rudolph would've described that moment. He moved away from Cap with a grunt. "I'm nothing more than a tourist attraction to these people. You know they'd never ride me they barely allow me to pull that sleigh around, and that only reason they do is money and that they have me safely restrained. I rather just be left in a stall for my life than that."

It was such a blow to his prideful ego to hear nothing from Cap. He'd thought there'd be some kind words given to him, but nothing from the kind roan. "Cap'tn?" He asked looking up to see the roan turned somewhat away.

"It hurts you know. To hear you say such a thing? I get it you're a grouchy stallion, but does everything have to be so negative with you? I'll never not be patient with you Roo, but it feels impossible."

Now it was his turn to be silent. Maybe it was his turn to be as soft hearted as the roan was. "Listen Cap'tn I am a grouch, you got that straight, but I'm not always trying to be. I naturally have a hard shell because that's just how the cookie crumbles, but it breaks plenty chipping slowly with each time my own mind turns into violence. I can't bear the weight by myself, but unfortunately I just will never be able to admit, because I'm filled with pride and a big ego."

It was his own complicated way of saying he needed someone to help him carry that burden. He needed his own hero, but couldn't say it out loud in it's full way. That hero would be Cap if he had his choice. It was settled in silence that Cap would be his hero without anyone else knowing.

That One Christmas [Done]

Postby Captain Chomp » Tue Jan 05, 2016 3:33 pm

I remember that one Christmas where I think I actually enjoyed the first Christmas in my life. Snow had been falling in big, fluffy flakes and my nose as sore as ever. It was the start of a horrendous time like every Christmas in my life. Celebrations took place all around me and the stables had no visitors for this day so I was spared for a little bit of the comments and loud children of those that came to see me. This year something felt a bit different I wasn't fully alone, sure Cap'tn was always with me, but Christmas he was pulled away to be used in fun holiday games while I stayed in my stall which is fine with me. This time I was out there as well, a saddle on my back and a bridle keeping me in check. No this wasn't something I was used to and I pushed at the bit with my tongue opening and closing my mouth uncomfortably. It made me wonder how other horses tolerated such an obstruction. Some even talked perfectly fine with them. "Caph'thn," I mumbled shaking my head. "This shucks."

All he did was shake his head slightly keeping still as a rider propelled themselves up onto his back in a single, fluid motion. My side went a bit differently. As soon as I felt wait hit one stirrup of the saddle and panicked a bit and tried moving away causing the man to fall into the snow with a softened thud. I didn't feel all that guilty, I mean what did they expect from me? He mumbled some words and gave a hardy laugh, brushing snow from his coat and pants with gloved hands. There he was again readying himself to mount, someone held my reins to keep me steady as he swung up landing in the saddle like a rock on a paper boat. I stumbled slightly but stayed standing as I attempted to adjust to the strange feeling. I'd been ridden before, but with what others liked to call my 'episodes' I wasn't saddled very often. I was dangerous, I'd hurt plenty of people before put of my nightmarish imagination.

"Just relax Roo, I swear they now what they're doing. They'll probably just be riding you around for a few simple things." Cap'tn had stated to me as he passed. It was all muscles with him and by all muscles it was really all heart.

Cap'tn was an admirable stallion for sure no doubts he had the most heart of anyone at the ranch, or so I'd come to believe. He was ran through jumps of a larger scale than most other jumpers, flying over them with never dying light in his eyes. Knees and tips of hooves bumped into rails and they tumbled to the ground in a clank.

Jumps were changed around as I watched given more space in between each one and they became shorter. It was my turn after several more horses went. Hesitant I moved forward at command and let myself listen to what his heels and the reins told me to do. I moved forward a steady trot and then a slow canter as the first jump of blue and white grew closer. I didn't want to jump I liked my feet on the ground. The feeling of flying frightened me I wanted to stop. I just couldn't though everyone was watching me with eagle like gazes. It was there in seconds and I pushed off, my form couldn't have been good as I hit a rail hearing it clank to the ground and my body twisting as I landed sending me stumbling forward to regain my gait.

The man still sat in the saddle leading me towards the next and then the next, by that time I was done before I knew it, my partner sliding from my back, a reward given to me. An oddly colored circular rock or red and white, a quick sniff told me it was of peppermint flavor and I took it hesitantly from his hand. Let me tell you it was one of the best things I've tasted. "Tis is a weird rock," I simply mused to the roan beside me.

"Roo that's a candy you brick brain," Cap'tn snorted eyes shifting for a quick glance at me.

I didn't feel like such a grouch at the moment or that time at all. I felt confused, like I was a foal again trying to learn to walk and see where I was. A friendly roan standing beside me to the left and a rider to my right with a hand tenderly patting my neck as he slipped me another peppermint rock. It was a Christmas that for once made me feel like something wasn't always going to hurt me. That one Christmas is the one I'll never forget.

Crowned For An Eternity [Done]

Postby Captain Chomp » Wed Jan 06, 2016 6:28 am

Cap'tn shook himself from his sleep draped state, turning in his stall to look over the divider between his stall and Rudolph's, watching the drowsy stallion, his mane falling over each side in messy parts. The roan simply didn't want to wake him, even though the morning routines of the ranch seemed to be luring him out of that rest themselves, so he helped out. Stretching over the divider as much as he could he nosed the tips of Rudolph's ears, all that he could reach. "Come on it'll be time to go out soon to the paddock with you soon," he snorted moving back to wait for him to rise.

"And what will be done with you? More jumping I presume?" A heavy and lethargic voice replied, a drenching pile of sarcasm onto each word as the chimeric rose to his feet, shaking straw from his coat.

He's presumptions had of course been correct, even in snow the arenas were kept in good condition to allow him to be worked on the jumps. Yesterday had been a single day of rest, which was meant for today, but snow had hit hard over night causing the day to be dedicated to tidying up everything. "Wouldn't mind being in a paddock for this day, it's cold and I'ms till going to work up a sweat," Cap'tn huffed a bit of irritation creeping into his voice.

Now Cap'tn was generally a very relaxed stallion, but he had his times of other emotions and right now it was irritation. Just a few days of rest was all he'd like and it was simply too much to ask. Besides him Rudolph pushed his nose gently against his shoulder. "Oh just throw a fit and take a day off," he mused tugging at the cropped mane of Cap'tn as he stomped his hoof down, wanting to go outside for some fresh air despite the cold and snow.

It brought amusement to the roan's eyes his actions, and Cap'tn thought it over it wasn't like him to throw a fit no matter what it was so it quickly melted from his thoughts. "No I'll put up with it."

With a shrug Rudolph watched as the assigned person to their barn lead horses out to the paddocks, leaving him and Cap'tn the few left. Capt'n was taken by his rider and Rudolph lead to the paddock, a solitary one just outside the barn with several large, luxurious oaks growing from the ground.

So that's how it went for quite a while of that day, Rudolph lounged in his paddock, only once being taken out to pull a cart of loud children which gave him a piercing headache that ended in him trying to bite his handler as he was returned to the paddock after all of it was over and Cap was ran through increasingly challenging jumps. His game was off though, kicking up the rails and forcing them to fall to the snow packed ground and even a stumble that had him on the ground and rider four feet away, his front knees having become scraped up from the hardened layer of ice on the snow. A hand grabbed his reins and began to lead him from the arena, "That's enough for today. It's not going to do us any good if we keep getting your legs knocked all up," the rider spoke patting his neck and releasing him from the equipment and sending him into the oak filled paddock with the chimeric stallion. Giving a small jump in his gait he made his way to Rudolph, bouncing his head as he walked.

"Worked to the bone once again Cap'tn?" Rudolph asked not lifting his head to greet the roan, just continuing to paw at the ground and find little spots of grass to munch on.

"Not too bad, I had an off day though," he admitted following into a calm, somewhat lopsided walk to help Rudolph find some nice spots of the food he was looking for before bowing his head and lapping at the scrapes on his legs, there was a small trickle of blood, but nothing severe enough to requite medical attention. "There have some grass since a blind bat could find grass under snow and ice ten times better than you," he teased.

His ears became pinned to his skull and Rudolph shot the roan an angry glare. "Gee thanks for that boost on confid-" He broke off from what he was saying when he noticed the small scrapes on the other's legs. "What happened Cap'tn are you okay?" He'd become quite a bit more compassionate, only something that could happen around the roan. "

He shook his head, trying to get him to just not worry. "Roo it's nothing, I took a tumble and hit a rough patch, nothing I can't handle," he said softly.

Rudolph only shook his head in reply nudging his face away to look at the scrapes himself. "You're not the one supposed to get hurt around here," he mused lifting his head to look at Cap backing away just slightly. "So you better be fine or I'll make sure you have something to not be okay about," he teased, though it came out as more of a serious threat by mistake.

Cap just returned to lapping at the scrapes for a few more long moments unsure how to react, he adored the chimeric stallion, but sometimes he got spooked by how aggressive or brutish he could sound, even if just by a mere accident. He shook the feeling to the back of his mind, he still had things to work on with the somewhat younger male and just headbutted his shoulder playfully. All of the playful actions he shared with Rudolph often had him being asked if they were dating or even mates which he'd be able to quickly, but heavily answer with a brisk, yet polite no. It had been a heavy decision to not even ask Rudolph about that being a possibility in the future, but he just needed to get closer and let him know he' always be there for him. Still it weighed heavy inside of him as he wondered if it had been long enough. They'd known one another since Cap was a yearling and Rudolph just brand new to the ranch of Paradise Pines.

He kept an eye on Rudolph as he walked around with long drawn steps, scraping snow and ice from the ground and nibbling on whatever he could find for grass which happened every ten attempts before he finally grew tired. "Hey, Roo?" Cap started out hesitantly, raising his head, but glancing a bit away from the other.

He lifted his head and tilted it to the side looking at Cap with a curious expression. "What you want Cap'tn?" He asked shaking his mane out before returning to his tilted head position.

His chest expanded as he took a deep yet shaky breath of crisp cold winter air. It stung his lungs which gave him some motivation to continue on his already started down path. "So we've known each other for a while now and though for a bit of that time I just lead you along and tried to keep my distance we've become some great friends I'd like to believe...I wanted to ask for a while now, but you needed more time to just trust me so to get over all this sappy walk down memory lane, I'd like to ask you. Would you like to be more than friends? Would you be the nightmare to my dream filled world? I've been missing something for such a long time."

It was a hard hit that almost made Rudolph stumble. He had to have something in his ears there was no way he'd heard Cap right. "Are you asking me to be your m-mate?" He asked the words sticking to his tongue as if they could be wrong and Cap didn't mean that at all. "I would be honored," he whispered.

His head bobbed in a yes motion and his emotion filled eyes were illuminated in just pure joy as he tugged at Rudolph's mane tenderly. "Then is it settled I'm your hero and you're my nightmare?" He asked sweetly pushing his nose into his mane and just relaxing.

"The hero and his nightmare. What a couple name we got there."

Author's Note [Done]

Postby Captain Chomp » Wed Jan 06, 2016 10:59 am

I'd like to say thank you so much Vintage for your hard work. I had a ton of fun working on my form and formed a great connection to this Tolter, but I know you'll pick a great home no matter what. Bears, Aseir [Luce], and Sandy Hoofprints where helpful in looking over my writing and giving me tips. I didn't go very into his relationships because Rudolph doesn't have many at this time, but if I get to add him to my stables he'll be developed tons more and with the help of Cap, his mate after doing lots of thoughts and development on their relationship they'll work together to get him more relationships including a family, rivals, enemies, friends, and more because he's just finally crawling out of his shell. The lack of relationships stem from his disliked personality and isn't used for competitions because of his unstable condition and just grouchy ways. There are plans in the future for him to be worked as a polo horse or barrel racing.

Please note his over active imagination is not an illness it's just something that has to give him some road bumps in his life and isn't something that always affects him negatively, it's usually something he loves and gets lost in for hours if it's good.
