"Shows how much I know," Damin grunted, yet laughed a little. "Thanks," He said, trotting over and sitting next to Storm, in front of the weasel. "Well, at least you survived." Damin nodded, turning to her. I know too many who didn't, Damin thought of many of his friends and family who never survived the woods. She took a bite from the weasel and savoured it's sweetness.

Storm stood after finishing the weasel. "I was taught to hunt by my mother. I... I miss the Arctic sometimes." She walked on toward the center of the forest, looking back to invite him to follow.

Damin rose and shook his dark pelt free of dirt, licking the blood off his lips. "The Arctic?" Damin replied, running to catch up to her. He walked beside her as they ventured further into the forest, Damin's footsteps louder and heaver than Storm's. "the Arctic," Damin repeated, to himself, as his mind whirred.

Storm nodded. "Yeah, it's this huge place with beautiful, wild lands, and snow everywhere through most of the year. It's nighttime for half the year, and daytime for the other half, and there are these beautiful lights that move in the sky!" She looked up at the constantly shifting sky, and sighed.

"Oh, wow." Damin sighed, his mind filled with the most beautiful images. He turned to Storm after a few silent minutes, but she looked a little down. "Oh, what's wrong?" Damin asked, nuzzling her shoulder tentatively. "Do you miss your home?" Damin asked quietly, trying not to upset Storm. He shifted his position and turned back to her, his eyes desperate to make her feel better.

"Yeah, a little." Storm looked over at Damin and smiled. "I was actually just wondering if it would be possible to get to my old home from here." She lifted her head and howled, sad that there was no musical howl in return, no wolfish song.

Damin smiled back at Storm, his eyes bright. "Oh," his head lowered in dismay. "I could try, but I'm not really sure of how far I can swim or run," He mumbled, ashamed he couldn't help Storm. Her howl echoed through the bushy forest, a beautiful lullaby to Damin. How far would it be to get to the Arctic? he thought, pawing at the murky pathway. Would anyone know how to get there? Damin's mind wandered off, his head still hung.

Storm smiled. "It can't be too far, maybe a few month's travel?" For her, a few months of running was nothing. She was a racer, and could run for days, maybe even weeks, without stopping. "But, it would be too much for the group, I think, what with the pups and the cub, and all that."

"Just us could go?" Damin suggested shyly. "It would be too much for the group, but surely we can handle it?" Damin wagged his tail and stared into Storm's eyes. "I'm not the best runner, though," Damin told her, but I'll run to the ends of the earth to see that happy face again, he thought to himself.

Storm laughed. "No, I couldn't leave the pups. They, uh... they just lost their mother." She sighed, dropping her head again. She was now the only one who could feed them until they could be weaned. She looked up. "And I'm needed to hunt for the group. But, uh... maybe after this whole deal with the humans is done, and the pups are stronger, we could ask Grim. I can teach you all how to survive in the Arctic, it's not that hard."
