Was an minior Indian nobleman until very young adulthood, his family was deposed due to a rebellion.
After the coup took place, he narrowly escaped being captured with his family. They're sold into the slave trade and eventually this leads to their deaths. He later discovers their fate and determines that he's never going to let others end up like that. He offers himself up as a finder of missing people by any means, especially those suspected of being sold off. Sort of a mercenary, but in reverse. He accepts payment because he's not stupid. And, while stingy with his money after his initial financial idiocy, always finds enough money to give something to any kids he finds who are really in need. He likes to stop by struggling orphanages and leave anonymous gifts, though no one ever sees him. While he has a vast network of contacts who lead him to potential clients, he has few true friends, fearing that his life will lead them into danger.
