Tell us about your Holiday traditions!

Tell us about your Holiday traditions!

Postby oops. » Tue Dec 22, 2015 1:49 am

On Christmas Eve people begin to arrive, normally it's just my mother and sometimes my Cousin from Rhode Island. We go to bed early, but then we are up again at twelve because my Grandpa takes us to Mass. In the morning of Christmas is when things get VERY active. My sister, Mother, Grandma and I are awake first and head to the chimney to open up the small presents we get. After my Grandma makes us a medium sized breakfast, normally with oranges we get in the Morning...somehow getting oranges the size of our fists has become a tradition. By then my Grandpa is awake and we rush to open the presents before the rest of the family comes [so that it isn't too hectic]. My Grandpa sits on the biggest chair, wearing his "Yankees" Santa hat and hands out the presents one by one. After cleaning up the mess my Grandma shoos us into different rooms and out of her way so she can begin on making the dinner. We normally head downstairs to my sister's room, we being my Sister, Mother and I while my grandpa heads to the Family den where we have a spread of food. It's right next to my sisters room so sometimes we sit out there and watch Christmas Specials on the "Big Tv". Arriving a little later is my oldest Aunt and my youngest and only boy cousin. He normally joins us down stairs and we move back to my sister's room if we aren't already there to play video games. Then my Aunt from Rhode Island comes [if she hadn't come the night before], she and my other Cousin come down stairs where we play Just Dance till our stomachs cramp up. After that my Aunt and Mother head up stairs to my Grandma and catch up, my Grandpa has my Uncle and normally they talk about random jumble, sometimes we'll join them otherwise we'll watch a Christmas movie in my sister's room. We have dinner a little early and it's hectic. Everyone's loud and laughing, we have so many people that my Grandma has to set up another table and combine them to make the "Super Table" me and my cousins call it. We all sit together, including the kids, we used to have a kid's table but that only lasted for two years because it was better to have everyone together. Sometimes we'll have guest, at least one but most of the time it's just us. My Grandma makes us a ham and Baccalow w/ chickpeas and peppers. It's very good. Afterwards we have dessert that my oldest Aunt had made, usually it's a bunch of pies but we, the kids, don't stay long. Once more we are shooed out of the way and retreat back downstairs. After that we play random things like board games and what not. Upstairs it's only my Grandma, Aunts and Mother who wreck havoc on their own, their laughter could be heard from downstairs. Normally they do ridiculous things, last year my mother and youngest Aunt got kicked out of the kitchen for rough housing and were sent downstairs to us kids where they continued to cause problems while joking around.

As you can tell I have a very interesting Christmas and Family..we do allot on this Holiday and it's my favorite because that's when all of my family comes home and we have fun. Although sometimes there is family drama we most of the time just mess around with each other and joke.

Christmas Eve, I attend a Christmas party with my mother's side of the family; usually consists of my aunt, my cousin, my cousin's boyfriend, my cousin and her boyfriend's roommate, my grandma, my grandpa, my mom, and my dad. Sometimes, there may be the occasional straggler from outside of our family. We eat dinner first, then open presents last, and stay for about another hour before leaving to go home, where we stay up usually until 12 or until we fall asleep. Christmas day is when I spend time with my dad's half of the family. This is a smaller gathering, of just myself, my mom, my dad, my grandma, my grandma's sister, my aunt, my aunt's boyfriend, and my little cousin. We, again, eat before opening presents, then open the presents, stick around for another hour or so, and then head home.

One time, we covered the entrance to the living room in wrapping paper and burst through it on Christmas morning!

We also have a tradition where we call our family members, and whoever's the first to say "Christmas gift" wins.

On Christmas day, we usually wait for my dad to get home before starting the traditions since he works overnight. After that, we finish breakfast and then go to open the gifts and stockings. We usually spend the rest of the day using our gifts, especially if we got something like new pajamas or blankets and electronics. Usually, we call relatives or talk to friends wishing them a merry Christmas as well.

We wake up really early, but we have to wait for everyone to wake up before we open presents. (Our cousins are always there too.) Then we open the presents and have breakfast in PJ's!

Well, what I do is I wake up really early to sneak downstairs to see if Santa brought us presents! I try to take some snapshots of him! But it's IMPOSSIBLE! :P Then we have Christmas breakfast. (pancakes/rice cookies) Then, at 8:00 or 8:30, we open presents!

We stay in our pajamas and eat junk all day. C:

Also, we usually go to our grandparents' place for the afternoon (yes, in pajamas) to make cookies and watch sappy Christmas movies.

On Christmas Eve, my and my family go to the Christmas Eve service at church. Then we go home and sit by the tree to read a Christmas story and drink hot cocoa. After that, each of us open one present (Christmas pajamas to wear that night and in the morning) and put them on. Then my older brother, me, and my little sister (yes I'm the middle child  ) go camp out in one of our rooms, staying up until our parents realize that we're still awake. We finally go to bed and wake up at about 5. We usually have to wait until 6 or 7 before we can race downstairs and look for the pickle on the tree. But first, we have the read about the true meaning of Christmas (the birth of Jesus) so we down get wrapped up in our presents and forget about Him. (Yes, the pun was intended) The first person to find the pickle gets to open their presents first. After we tear open our presents, we go to our stockings and see what edible things we can eat. This year will be different because we moved and so we have to wait a few days after Christmas to see our extended family. And my dad, because he has to work on Christmas.  But when we see everybody, it'll be a blast. I can't wait!!
