denali. it's a name meaning 'the great one,' which is actually pretty funny considering how... un-great the bananalord is.
for the most part, he tries to ignore his name meaning, and it doesn't really cross his mind often anyway, which is a good
thing. for how short he is, being a dwarf vaiki, he would rather speak his name without its meaning crossing his thoughts.

what does is truly mean to be the bananalord?
oh, this is rich. it's always been a subject denali gets asked a lot, and while it's usually just for a good laugh, let's just say
being the bananalord isn't usually pleasant. here's the thing; denali is a prince, kind of, anyway. his family's part of a very
wealthy kingdom, but since he had an older brother to take up a throne, he was little more than an afterthought for any-
one who saw him as a prince. even though he was still young, he was ambitious, and once decided that it would be a good
idea to 'start' a whole new kingdom of his own when he was pretty much ten. keep in mind the fact that he's still got a lot
of time before he could ever be considered an actually serious adult who could make his own decisions wisely. when he pro-
claimed he'd start his own kingdom, he just got teased with the name 'bananalord.' the name stuck from then on. he's got
the mentality of a sixteen year old now. still young, still teased, but at least he's got a more realistic view of things now.

being the very odd vaiki he is, denali can't deny his personality mostly comes from how he grew up. being a prince meant he had all he could ever want, which made him want more. he was a very hyper, ambitious child who always needed something to do. he couldn't stand boredom. he would sneak into the armory and steal a dagger to swing around until he accidentally cut off a twig or two from a nearby flower bush. he'd tie a pillow to his stomach and bounce on the bed until he was told to stop. he was always looking for trouble. upon knowing he wouldn't be the one to inherit the kingdom after his father, he took it quite well and ran down the halls yelling that he would one day rule his own kingdom built from scratch. he even yelled that he would be the 'great and mighty bananalord,' and so the nickname stuck.


nowadays, denali's the butt of a joke whenever bananas come into the conversation. thankfully, he doesn't really mind and will laugh it off with anyone else. he does wonder occasionally if he'll ever truly run a kingdom on his own one day, but even if that doesn't end up becoming his fate, he won't be too bothered by it.

living outside of all the banana jokes, denali makes for pretty good company. he's still ambitious and loves to scheme and plan, but he's also very fussy at times. he actually hates wearing his cape and having to hold his banana staff around [ he tries to reason with people and call it a crescent moon, but no one believes poor denali ]. for the most part, he just leaves the two items in his room. something he usually carries with him when he's outside the palace would be a small pack of band-aids because he often hurts himself. he's scared of getting into fights since he bruises easily, and whenever he does it's back to the bananalord jokes.

it's actually worth mentioning that denali's weakness is chocolate. he absolutely hates it, he refuses to eat it, it's his enemy. he gets pranked a lot because of this, getting all sorts of chocolate-themed japes. sometimes he just gets thrown a bucket of chocolate on him and gets called a banana split. while he doesn't mind verbal banana jokes, when it comes to chocolate, denali can end up becoming your arch enemy. he won't forgive you if you do this to him. he will never speak to you again. chocolate always manages to get stuck between his toes, turning his fur into chunks of brown, it's stickier and even more gross than syrup! for the same reason, he hates mud, but it's mostly just despicable chocolate.

actually, there's another way chocolate is his weakness. let's discuss that in the next post.

gallifrey genos trent, galli, gen, g.t., and any other name he goes by is one vaiki that means a lot to denali; too much, even. he's not even royalty, denali just met him as a child and ended up growing close to him. both are around the same age, despite denali being shorter, and personality-wise gen had always been the rational vaiki between them. for someone who people keep calling 'denali's chocolate,' gen is far from denali's enemy. he always gets super flustered and skittish around gen nowadays, and gets all uppity every time he hears someone mention gen in a negative or even neutral light. while they're childhood friends, denali obviously wants more.




dante's this one kid who found denali drenched in chocolate one day. it's a long story, so don't ask. anyways, dante was the one who helped denali get clean and even offered some chocolate-free snacks for him, which pretty much ensured the new friendship. while dante usually plants hydroponics with his dad, denali has given him the 'honor' of growing banana trees for denali and other vaikis; now dante grows and sells bananas for profit and even gives some to denali as gifts. beyond that, they don't talk as much as they used to, but denali has tried to fix that. both vaikis are putting effort into mending their friendship, and denali has personally visited to talk often.

the daily life

denali's daily life isn't something super exciting, but he wouldn't trade it for anything else. he gets up whenever he feels like it, so it could be anywhere from three in the morning to nine a.m. after that, he usually goes outside and away from any royal duties - not that he has much. he hangs out like any other vaiki his age, and wherever he goes it usually involves trying to strike up a friendly conversation with gen without losing face or bruising himself black and brown.

sometimes he gets run-ins with his greatest enemy, or rather vaikis armed with weapons he hates: chocolate. honestly, it's stupid to even imagine vaikis with buckets of liquid chocolate, but there are a lot of them out there to 'bully' denali. he hates to admit that he is a bit fond of those skirmishes, because the chase is pretty fun. being drenched in chocolate like a banana split, though, isn't fun at all, which is why he'll never admit he enjoys the whole 'chocolate' ordeal.

when he's home, he usually spends his time reading. he's quite fond of newspapers. he loves doing the crosswords and sudoku puzzles at the dining table like your average cartoon dad does. after eating, he'll take the newspapers to his room and read the latest scoop there. he also likes reading the advertisements and sales there - it's very calming for him. he actually isn't too fond of novels or comic books - some of the comics and stories on the newspapers are entertaining enough.

denali also takes care of his pet. what animal is it, you may ask? well, it's a binturong, otherwise known as a bearcat! a male named musa, also the genus of bananas. musa isn't that high maintenance and is a very sweet and loving giant teddy bear pillow who usually spends his time keeping close to denali when he's indoors. otherwise, he just makes himself at home. he has this habit of chewing on denali's banana crescent moon staff, but otherwise, he's obedient and cuddly. very cuddly.

an explanation

what's listed is only a few things denali is either very fond of or not. the truth is, of course, nothing's as black and white as it's pictured as. there are a lot of gray areas, neutrals, things denali likes more or less but wouldn't proclaim as love or hate.

some of these have already been clear on what he does truly love or dislike, so we'll leave those to go without explanation. while he's joked off as the bananalord, he doesn't mind eating bananas, of course. he doesn't do it often since he gets teased of cannibalism though. he dislikes cacao trees as they produce chocolate, and he also feels scared and disturbed by dogs. one chased him as a child, mistaking his tail for a boomerang, he would think. in general, he's afraid of them now.

a friend

there was a time when denali felt pretty lonely. most of his siblings were busy, even his younger ones who had friends to play with. at the time, denali only had gen among a few others. eventually, he felt like he needed a pet. he didn't want a dog, of course, since this was after he developed his fear of dogs. he tried to get close to some of the animals he was hoping to get one as a pet of. he tried to get close to dante's pet cat, but he ended up disliking those. they were too loud. he couldn't seem to get himself a bird either. he considered a toucan but decided he would get laughed at for the similarities between bananas and a toucan's beak. how could lord cod be so mean to him when all he wanted was a pet?

enter musa the binturong. at first, denali was really unsure about it. it took a while before he could warm up to him. that was when he was still nameless. after adopting him, one of denali's older siblings suggested the name musa, saying it was a variant of the name moses. only when musa was responding well to his name that denali found out that 'musa' was the genus for banana. well. he'd fallen for that, but less than how he had fallen for the bearcat. he was such a sweetheart!
