1: Escape
2: How it was
3: Scout life
4: Friends
5: Escape
6: How it was
7: How it was
Roll says... 2: How it was.
"How was it here?" you say. "Were you safe? Did anyone..."
"They tell you about that over there, huh?" Thimble is still looking at the wall. "No, I was fine. The mothers here look after all of us kids. They're nothing like the moms I've known - I saw one claw up a guard's face so badly, I don't even know how he still had his eyes."
"What for?"
Thimble's smile twists a little. "He was looking at me."
Your eyes widen.
"They're serious about the rules here," Thimble says. "They may not let us run around as we please, but the mothers and wives have complete and total power, and they're not afraid to use force. The guards are just here to give us food whenever we want and keep anyone from getting out or in. They can't even step inside the door, unless they want to face the wrath of twenty angry mollies."
You look out at the door. "So if a grown tom sneaks in here?"
"He'd be brutalized-" Thimble lifts her head up with a worried look. "Oh."
You nod.
Her voice drops to a whisper. "We have to hide you."
"That won't be hard," you say. "The hard part will be getting us both out."
"There's some way to do that, I'm sure," she says. "Sometimes kittens get out without us noticing."
"Air vents," you say. "The guard that brought me in said something about the air vents."
"A guard brought you in?" Thimble gives you a funny look. "How did he not notice?"
You lift a paw and sweep down from your head to your toes.
"Fair enough." Thimble sits up. "I can explore around here and talk to the mothers. They're always happy to share information on everything. Have you checked out the city?"
"Yes," you say. "A scout goes all over enemy territory and listens in to conversations. I was the best rookie they had, so I was out all the time."
"Cool." Thimble grins. She looks more like her old self. "Then you know where we should go?"
"We need to head deeper into the city before we can leave it," you say. "They leave the inner border the least defended, since there aren't any more cats to kidnap here."
"Not ideal, but it'll do," Thimble says. "What about-"
"Hsh," you say. You narrow your eyes and focus your ears.
You hear footsteps heading towards you.
"Someone's coming," you whisper.
Thimble's smile drops. "This way?"
You nod and look around for a place to hide.
Under the bed.
On top of the bed.
Inside the TV cabinet.
