Cosette Hugo, 20, Female (Demigirl), Psych Student Extraordinaire
Cosette's bag dangled from the edge of her shoulder as if it wanted to run away. She ran her mental checklist over what she packed (a recorder, paper, pens, light reading, and a travel reference book for the odd psychology term she might have forgotten, plus a first aid kit
because the number of missing people threatened her and the small box added a slight comfort). Her fingers deftly twisted her hair in a quick bun as she approached the manor doors.
Cosette wasn't escorted to the door by a concerned family member. She wasn't pushed forward by friends. In fact, the only person who even knew she was going to the manor was her Psych 101 professor, who simply advised her not to make assumptions or see patterns that weren't there. "Look at the facts," he had said. "Then everything else will fall into place." And the facts, at that moment, were simple: people went missing at Lycus Manor, and (assuming she managed to leave unharmed) she would prove that the supernatural fairy tales were bull. Simple. Nothing unnatural afoot whatsoever.
She stood stationary before the doors, some vague sense of self-preservation holding her back.
"They're just doors," she murmured.
"Nothing more, nothing less." She paused and observed that she was not, in fact, alone at the doors. If she was more of a nervous person, she might have blushed. As it was, she had been through far more embarrassing things than being caught talking to herself, although it did a harsh blow to her fragile image of professionalism.
With a name like Cosette, not many people took her seriously. She cursed the day two Lit majors met and forced her into existence. With habits like talking aloud and treating others like case studies rather than human beings, the few who might have taken her seriously ran for the hills. Cosette took a deep breath and forced what she hoped was a friendly smile.
"Hello!" she greeted, laughing off her slight faux pas.
"I'm from Elsbane College a few blocks down, I'm here to observe the psychological effects of fear on perception. If you don't mind, I'll be studying your reactions to everything that happens in the manor. It's a pleasure to meet you; I'm Cosette Hugo and I look forward to working with you all."
