After growing up living usually in very rural areas I recently got my own apartment, basically in the middle of the city in the capital of our state. The lack of animals kind of made me sad that I almost took them for granted beforehand.
I recently hung up a bird feeder, though, and since then have started attracting a squirrel, a pair of male and female cardinals, and a couple of nuthatches. Every once in a while someone's cat will wander around to watch as well. I also got a little taste of 'murica the other day when driving down in the road in the city, a bald eagle swooped out in front of my car to grab a dead cat off the road and we made eye contact if I hit on my brakes. It was a super neat experience as I have only ever seen them from the distance while canoeing or through binoculars.
