Choices:
1: What do we do?
2: What do we do?
3: What do we do?
4: Just cats this time?
5: What do we do?
6: Just cats this time?
Roll says... 6: Just cats this time?
"Is it only cats this time, or are there more dogs?" you ask.
"Just cats," Tag huffs. "Why would they stick around if there were dogs out there?"
"Let's not rule it out," Blitzkrieg says. "Did you see how many there were?"
"More than ten?" Tag says uncertainly.
Blitzkrieg doesn't respond. She lifts her head, sniffs the air, and shuts her eyes, thinking. The patrol waits silently.
"You let them know we're expecting them," she says at last, opening her eyes and looking at Tag, who flinches. "But we have some time before they come for us. Hopper?"
You straighten up. "Yes?"
"There's a patrol a few blocks from here. I want you and Tag to go get them."
"Both of us?" Tag says. "Why?"
"Because neither of you can fight." Blitzkrieg holds up her tail just as you open your mouth. "But I've seen both of you run. For a cat with three legs, you're quick. And Tag knows his way around. The patrol will be on Hazel Street by now."
"Why do we need a second patrol?" Tag says.
"Where you find one rat, there's five more you can't see. Get going."
Tag stares at her, then pokes you and jogs off. "Let's go."
You spare one look at Blitzkrieg, who gives you an easygoing smile. Unsure of what to think, you follow Tag, who starts running as soon as he hears you coming up behind him.
...
"This is stupid," Tag grumbles after a bit. "I could have gotten the patrol all by myself. Why'd she have me take you?"
"She knows what she's doing," you say calmly. "I doubt either of us could have been much use anyway."
"I could have been," he mutters.
"Didn't you yell out and alert them to our location?" you say, tilting your head. "Isn't your job to do the exact opposite of that?"
"Shut up." Tag's tail whips around hard enough to nearly hit you in the face. "I just got startled."
"Startled," you repeat dryly.
"I can get startled!" he snaps. "There were a lot of cats! There usually aren't that many!"
You pause. "Did you hear that?"
"Hear what?" Tag keeps moving.
"Something's here," you say. "Stop and listen."
Tag obeys, glaring around the area. "I don't hear anything."
You strain your ears. "Something's moving around somewhere to the right. I think it's in that house over there."
"We don't have time for this, idiot," Tag says. "We're supposed to go get the other patrol."
"What if it's an enemy?" you say. "One of the - what'd you say, wisers - following us?"
"Look, I don't hear anything," Tag says. "We're close to Hazel Street, so let's go."
Fine, you go and I'll check it out.
Alright, alright, I'm coming.
