Fate climbed the tree that grew by her den and lay down in the branches. "I did it. I saved him." She muttered to herself. "But that's the second time today he's been rescued from drowning by a vixen. How do I know if he likes me?" She sighed and rolled over. "He probqably likes every femme in the pack."

Zook looked at his reflection. "How do I know which female I like most?"

Fate jumped down. Her legs shivered beneath her but she didn't take notice. She wondered how Zook would react if she caught an elk. Even full grown wolves can't take them down alone. She smiled and looked for the strong stink that would announce the presence of a herd. She licked her lips and eyed a fat, almost grown calf. It would do.

Fate tensed her muscles, and crawled carefully sideways to get downwind of it. When she got there, it still had no idea of the danger. Suddenly, she sprang forward, and grabbed the neck of the yelping calf. Its mother let out a sound like a groan, and charged after her. She jumped over a log, dragging the calf along the dust.

Zook scratched himself behind his ear.

Fate slipped into a small cavern, dragging the already dead calf in with her. The mother elk couldn't fit, and the vixen gave a sigh of relief. She lay down and the calf, and waited for the elk to go away.

Zook rolled onto his back.

Fate poked her head out. The elk was gone. She picked up the calf and went to Zook. "Zook!" She called. "Look what I caught." She was struggling under the weight of the calf. "It'll feed the entire pack." She purred.

Zook looked at the calf. "Nice work. We can have a feast tomarrow."

Fate smiled. "I'll put it in the food den." She said, picking the heavy calf back up and struggling back to camp.

Zook helped carry the calf. He decided to carry more of the weight. She was the one who killed it. It was the least he could do.
