Unnamed flinched as Windfur touched her nose to her cheek. Taking a step back, Unnamed stared at the ground vigorously and nodded her head.

Windfur

Windfur tilted her head a little. "Why don't you go back to her?" She paused. "Sorry, I guess that's difficult for you to answer. How about this... Do you want to go back to her?"

Unnamed shook her head. Maybe, if things had happened differently. But her mother was most likely dead, and ultimately it was her own fault.

The older cat looked at the younger sadly. "I'm sorry for whatever happened between you two." She meowed. "A kit should never be without a mother. She sighed, once again thinking of her own adopted kits. "You know, I'm a foster mother to two of the apprentices in camp. Their mother died of greencough, and I was the only one who could step in... They're not much older than you. Only about two moons. I never wanted kits, but I love them dearly. Life is funny like that..."

Windfur gently touched her tail to the young she-cat's back. "I'm not the highest authority here by any means, but I'd like to ask you. Would you want to join our clan, if Berrystar agreed? If you do, I can help vouch for you. You remind me of my foster kits."

Unnamed thought about it for a moment, then she nodded her head slowly. She would like that. A warm bed, some food maybe... and not having to worry and look over her shoulder every moment. That would be nice.

Windfur smiled. "I'll ask Berrystar when he comes. He's very kind, and reasonable. I'm sure he'll let you join once we explain your situation. Actually, I should ask first, before I go assuming. Do you want me to help ask him?"

Unnamed nodded, then smiled. That would probably be a great help. If she couldn't speak, it might be hard to convince him to let her stay.

The older cat smiled back. She had taken a liking to this new cat, even if this new cat was still wary of her. "Stay here a moment." She meowed, glancing around the clearing. Windfur padded over to the fresh-kill pile, picking a mouse off the top and carrying it back with her. She dropped it at the other cat's feet. "Go on, eat. I'm sure you're hungry. All clan cats are free to eat from the pile, and even if you're not accepted I'll count it as my share. Although, I don't think that will be a problem." Windfur used her paw to nudge the mouse towards the unnamed cat.
