Dandelion lifts his head just a little.

"If it's any consolation, I like you just fine so far," you add. "And everyone else on the patrol seems to enjoy your company."

He looks up at you, his huge eyes now sparkling. "D'you think so?"

"Sure," you say cheerfully. "Why do you think they all said I'm lucky to have you as my partner?"

"I thought it was 'cuz I can't die." Dandelion tilts his head.

You blink. "Sorry?"

"I thought it was 'cuz-"

"There you are."

You jump. Blitzkrieg is standing at the entrance to the alley with an amused expression.

"Good boy, Dandy," she says. "You tucked yourself into a nice spot."

"Thanks, ma'am." Dandelion stands up and trots over to her, tail waving happily. "Guess what?"

"What?" Blitzkrieg says. Something about her voice reminds you of Charlie.

"Hopper said everyone likes me," Dandelion says, like he's telling a secret.

"Well, they do, Dandy," Blitzkrieg says. She gives you a completely genuine smile. "Come on. The patrol's waiting for us."

"Did everyone make it?" Dandelion asks. The two of them walk away, and you follow slowly behind them.

"No, sadly," Blitzkrieg says. "We lost Quicksilver and Owl. I can't find Snapper, either."

"Oh." Dandelion's head drops. "I hope she's okay."

"I'm sure she is, Dandy."

You make a few turns before returning to the original patrol route. Three cats are missing from the patrol, who all look a little stressed.

"Oh, nice, the new kid's fine," Card says.

"I told you," Gabber says.

"You didn't tell me nothing, Blabs." Card grins at you. "Wanna know what she said?"
