Welcome to Dovre Mountain Ranch! This is a life-long RP (if I can get it up and going), where you, the RP’er, lives life at this wonderful horse heaven. In this roleplay you may control one person, who can own up to three horses and two dogs/cats. There is no major plot, just a story of your making. You get a setting to work with, and small plots (such as horse shows) now and then to keep the RP going and interesting.

Rules

• You may control one human, who can have up to three horses and two cats or dogs.
• No god-modding or Gary/Mary-Sues. I don’t expect a lot of deaths here either.
• Leaving for dead: Make sure that everyone is a part of the roleplay. If there are five players, everyone should write at least twice per ten post. To help this, everyone must write in an OOC paragraph if they know they are going offline and there are many others online. (OOC = Octopuses On Cars)
• Spam is not tolerated. Neither is rudeness.
• This roleplay is semi-literate – please respect that, and your own RP skills.
• Tess is "da boss". End of story!

Plot and scenery
Dovre Mountain Ranch – a medium sized horse centre in the middle of Norway. There are no other housing in miles, and it is perfect for everyone with a heart for horses and nature. The centre has 12 boxes – 8 large and 4 smaller designed for ponies. The stable also includes a feeding room, washing box, tack room and a “living” room. Outside there is an indoor riding arena for use in the winter (don’t forget, we’re in the heart of Norway – it gets cold here) and an outside arena. The centre is surrounded by endless possibilities of outdoor riding, with kilometres of trails to conquer. Mountains, lakes and valleys make the experience unique and it has its own way of making everyone happy.

The tack room:

All horse tack.
Extra saddle pads, ropes and stirrups. Just in case.
Medicine cabinet, with equipped to take care
of both man and beast.
In the tack room, each horse has its own cabinet.
Each cabinet includes a saddle hanger, bridle knot
and a shelf for blankets and saddle pads. At the
bottom there is a movable box to put your horse’s
grooming kit in.

In the living room you need to name your things, if you don’t they belong to everyone.
Private food needs to be names too, and can be kept in the fridge or in the cabinets above the sink.
It everyone’s responsibility to keep the living room clean and in proper condition.

Seasons change, weather change. We are in Norway, a sometimes oh’-so-cold country up in the north, a sometimes best-place-in-the-world country. Below you will find information about the season, weather etc. These will change, so keep an eye on them!

About the writer/boss
My name is Piuma, and I am "the boss" around here. I will not participate directly in the roleplaying, and will mostly just lurk around, looking for rule-breaking smoothies. But I will also work as an ice-breaker. If the roleplay gets stuck, I will come in with simple messages like:

“Carl’s phone suddenly rings. Horse gets spooked and runs.”

That way you have something new to work with. I will also be controlling the stable cat, which is also an ice-breaker. Sometimes I will also add mini-plots, like this:

“There is a horse market in Oslo. Get together and plan to go there.”

Basic description: Margrete Jenssen is a powerful built woman, not thick but larger than the average. She is musculous, after years of farm work. She has short, brown hair and warm, blue eyes. Always wearing worn out jeans, turtleneck and a vest. With a warm personality, she is always there for you when you need her, and she always knows then you need her.

Basic description: An aloof, somewhat easily pleased sort of guy. He is fine lounging in a sunny room with a book or sketch pad all day. T-shirts and jeans are his unofficial uniform, and nearly anything else can make him a bit of a pain.

Christian is not one to deviate from routine, no matter who he is with or where he is. He finds each new setting adaptable to his needs and quickly isolates areas that he finds suitable to his habits.
Anything else: Chris is from California, the south part where it's warm. He doesn't exactly know how he got roped into practically living on a horse ranch up in Norway, but he knows it has something to do with his sister. Why this ranch? He has no idea. He doesn't live with his sister and parents anymore, he moved out a couple years back to a place of his own.

His sister backed out of the experience on rather short notice, leaving him with two plane tickets and only one person to use them. He sold the extra, and decided to go ahead and do the trip himself. Perhaps a change of scenery would be good for him. He doesn't know anything about horses other than a few tips on steering and mounting one, and perhaps a limited knowledge of tack. He is willing to try, though, as long as it doesn't mean training every day from dawn till dusk. If that is the case, he intends to resist as obnoxiously as possible.

Relationship status: Single, mutually ended a long term relationship before coming to Dovre.
Basic description: Lily has natural dark brown hair with golden highlights. It comes just below her shoulders when left down, but almost always it is swept up in a pony tail or messy bun. Her hazel eyes sparkle when she smiles and darken when her mood is down. She has soft freckling across her upper cheeks and nose, with random dotting about her body, especially her arms. From working at home, she has a darker coloring to her pale skin. Even in the winter, her skin barely fades to a softer tan. Lily has a mind of her own and is not afraid to express it. If you're ticking her off, be prepared for her to tell you off. She works very hard and always asks if anyone else needs any help. She practically lives at the stables, getting up extra early and going to home very late. She is protective of her animals, and all others. She has a tendency to think of the worst possible situations and has to work hard to quell those thoughts. She'd rather spend more time with animals than in the company of other humans. When her friends at home wanted to go out, she'd help out strays. She finds mice cute and likes the adventure of capturing and re-homing them. When talking about subjects she likes, or is knowledgeable about a topic, she has a tendency to ramble on and overload the people she's talking to.

Basic description: Kyle is a nice, outgoing guy until someone threatens or talks about his animals. He's very defensive when it comes to them and will quickly jump to violence if someone threatens them. Aside from his sometimes aggressive self, Kyle loves to be around crowds and talk to others. He'll set up to practice jumping with a horse and get side-tracked with someone else and talk for hours if they'd let him.
Anything else: Kyle loves to hum when he's alone. He's also lived in Norway for a while so he's used to the cold, loving to tromp around with some of the horses when it snows.

Basic description: Alex is pretty quite. She's the kind of girl who would rather spend her day in the barn then shopping at the mall, unlike most other girls. If Alex isn't in the barn then chances are, she's in her room reading. She divides her time between her horse, Black Dancer, and reading. Alex used to dance but gave it up so she could ride more. As you can see from her picture, Alex has dark brown hair. It's a bit longer then shown, reaching down to her mid-back. Alex isn't very tall, reaching only 5'1. She is often called petite which is quite true. Alex is only 95lbs but is quite muscular thanks to both riding and dance.
Anything else: Alex is mostly deaf but knows how to read lips so when you're talking to her, make sure you look at her. She can speak, she just can't hear very good.

Basic description: Dakota is a person who knows how to laugh at himself, and he is barely ever offended by anything. He's a guy who is easily liked and his carefree and easy-going personality makes people want to be around him. His usual attire is polo shirts, jeans, a tan cowboy hat, and tennis shoes (unless he's riding, in that case he wears cowboy boots).
Anything else: Dakota doesn't know much about horses, even though he lived on a ranch where they raised horses. He knows about riding them, but he's scared of galloping and he looks very funny when doing a trot. He is also very good at calming them down. Dakota came to Dovre Mountain Ranch to learn more about horses and meet new people, since his ranch is twenty-eight miles away from their neighbors.

She loves everything what's about animals, horses the most. Her parents sended her to Dovre Mountain Ranch, because they thought she needed a vacation. At the first moment, she didn't liked it at all, but she decided to make it the best she could, and just see how it will be.

Name: Raising Hell, (Sebastian)
Breed: Mixed Breed, Warmblood type.
Age: Six
Gender: Gelding
Basic description: Sebastian is a tall, 16H, bay with tall black stockings. His ears are on the large, but proportionate side. Very curious in everything. The only light coloring on him is a small pink snip between his nostrils, on his muzzle. He has liquid milk chocolate eyes that can show his thoughts and feelings.
He is not an easy horse, and you must work for everything. He is not a beginner horse, but it doesn't mean he is a bad one. You must be smart when around him. Seb does have his surprising moments though.
Sebastian enjoys his work and prides himself in doing it well. He loves jumping and causing some chaos. He gets grumpy working on the flat but when he puts his mind to it, does very well.

Name: Sweet Heavens, (Rosey)
Breed: Irish Sport Horse
Age: Eight
Gender: Mare
Basic description: Rosey is a sweet, calm natured horse. She has never showed any marey habits, although she is ticklish on her belly. She can be trusted with anyone, a perfect babysitter. She doesn't act up with beginners or youth and has even participated in a program for people with disabilities. She's happy spending the day grazing, going on a trail ride or jumping.
The only thing she does mind, is the snow. And with being in Norway, she's had to deal with a lot of it. But being good natured, she puts up with it and is always the first at the gate to go inside.
Her dark, dappled grey winter coat is thick and fuzzy, but in the summer when it sheds out, it lightens to an almost white coloring with no dapples. She has light brown eyes that are very understanding and she never begs for treats. She's the kind of horse a young girl can talk to for hours, spilling all their hardships to her.
Before coming to Lily, she was a champion eventer, going to shows all the time. Lily saw her and noticed that she'd rather be a lesson horse than a competition horse and bought her. Lily worked with the mare so she was used to not showing and training all the time. The change was easy for Rose and she was leased to a small summer camp where Lily worked. Lily made sure that she wasn't overworked or mishandled by beginners. A couple years later, she was bred to another Irish Sport Horse and now she's in foal.
Anything else: Rosey is pregnant and her due date is coming up. (About a couple of months rp time. I didn't want to set it because I don't know how the rp is going to go.)

Basic description: Socks is a nice little youngster and he loves to mess around. He's still new to the show horse business so he's still learning the ropes though he loves his training when it happens. He tries his best just to show off to the other horses though he usually doesn't do perfect while learning new things. He still stops in front of jumps and has a tough time with dressage, though he doesn't do that much. All in all, Socks is a sweet youngster that loves attention.

He loves to go fast, he takes off galloping and bucking regularly. Ivy knows she has a lot of work to do with him, but she has faith in him.

Dancer likes to keep a neat stall only going to the bathroom if necessary and then, she only goes in one of the far corners. When it comes to riders, Dancer isn't picky about who rides her. Anyone probably could. She's polite and will obey you but she has a special liking for Alex. Mostly because the two have grown up together pretty much.

Basic description: Monty is a very obedient horse, most of the time. Sometimes he decides to be silly and disobeys Dakota, or he won't come when called or something similar. Monty will do almost anything for an apple, and he's very distracted by plants on the edge of a trail. He really hates the bit and, once in his mouth, he is constantly playing with it with his tongue. Running is one of his favorite things to do, and he does anytime he is given an opportunity. He likes to flirt with mares, thinking himself a ladies man.

Anything else: Controlled by Piuma, but anyone can add him in their posts, as a bi-character. This cat is everyones property, and can be used as an ice-breaker.

It is early in the morning, and Mr. Grey is on his way from the living room to take his usual morning round in the stable. The clock just passed 0630 a.m, and it is soon feeding time for the horses. He stretches his body, before walking out of the living room and into the quiet stable. The only sound that can be heard is the calm humming of one of the horses, and another one walking around in his box. He walks through the stable, and to the other end where he sneaks out of his cat door. Outside it is dark, white and cold. The sun does not rise before 1000 a.m, and it sets at 0230 p.m. The days are short here in the winter, and the riders are glad the Ranch built an indoor riding hall a couple of years ago. He walks back into the stable to say hello to the horses. It is an important routine, and it also seems the horses are happy to have him around. Sometimes, if it gets too cold inside the living room, he sleeps on their backs, and he always makes sure that all horses feel welcome and are not left out. First out is Nimbus and King, who stand opposite to each other nearest the living room. The two studs neigh at him, and he meows back. Then another neigh is heard, further back in the stable. It is Rocky, one of the horses who seem to enjoy his company the most. Sometimes she can be heard calling for him at night for comfort, because as the thoroughbred she is she easily gets spooked by mysterious noises often heard in a stable at night.

Finally the clock passes 0645 a.m, and the first humans start to arrive at the stable.

[Pandora!]

Kat grumbled under her breath as she rolled over and bashed the off button on her alarm clock. She kicked off her mountainous pile of blankets and swung her legs of the edge of the bed groggily. The warm covers were much more inviting than the cold floor beneath her feet as the Keurig machine gurgled out a hot stream of caramel flavored coffee into a black travel thermos. After pulling on winter breaches, riding socks, muck boots, and a heavy down jacket over her long sleeved shirt, Kat clung to her coffee and headed outside. It was only a short walk to the barn, a nice older couple rented out a cottage a few houses down from Dovre Mountian Ranch.

As Kat slid open the front door of the barn, the familiar scent of hay, grain, and horses washed over her. She paused, and inhaled contently before heading to the feed room sipping her coffee. Each of her horses nickered happily as she poured sweet feed into their buckets, and plopped three flakes of hay at their feet. After tightening one of Ella leg raps that had become loose, she stoked the mare's neck as she planed out the day ahead of her.

[Charisma.]

The sound of the alarm clock rang out through her head as Riley rolled over in bed and smacked the off button. It was past 6:45 am, and it was dark outside. In Norway the sun didn't come out all the way until ten o'clock am. Finally pulling off the warm blankets, she sat up and smoothing out her pj pants. Standing she went to wash up, and afterward she pulled on a warm long-sleeved shirt, and a nice thick sweater over it, then slipped on one of her jeans socks, and riding boots. First she would need to feed her horses, one being a thoroughbred mare, and the other a paint stallion.

Heading out into the living room she reached for the fridge, pulling out an energy drink and heading outside, with one of her hands in her pocket. Kat had probably arrived at the barn earlier than her, she thought as she walked. Riley pulled over the front door and stepped inside, the fresh smell of horses flooding the air. Smiling she moved down the isle of stalls to one of her horses, the thoroughbred mare, Rocky. Across from her was Chance, her paint stallion.

Looking over her shoulder she smiled as she noticed Kat was with her own horses. She had thought right, Kat had arrived earlier. Smiling at her she went to stroking her mare for a bit before going to pour feed into Chances bucket, and then pouring some into Rocky's bucket. She made sure there was fresh water in each of their buckets before beginning to stroke Chances soft, yet muscular neck.

[Pandora!]

"Good morning, Riley." Kat said lightly as she stepped out of Ella's stall. "I was thinking about heading over to the cross country field to ride in some of the deeper snow. I know it's too icy to jump, but I'd love some company. I'm going to chase Nimbus around the ring for a bit before I go, though." With a slight dip of her head, Kat slipped into the tack room to get Nimbus's tack and her lounge rope.

She propped the saddle rack up and plopped the tack down before going into Nimbus's stall. The chestnut stallion nibbled her hair while Kat undid his blanket and leg raps. Kat set to work currying the large horse, all 16.2 hands of him. He munched on the rest of his hay while the girl picked out his feet and began to saddle him.

[Charisma.]

Once Chance was happily munching at his feed, and Rocky was happily sipping the water in her bucket Riley turned, hearing Kat's voice. "morning Kat-" she greeted with a small smile before listening to what she was to say. Rocky had stopped sipping the water and had her head over Riley's shoulder watching. "That sounds nice Kat- I would love to join you- I'm going to warm up a bit with Rocky first though" she smiled and shrugged. It was almost as if the black thoroughbred mare knew that they were going out for cross country practice, to ride in deeper snow. She snorted, the chilly air rising.

After leaving Chance calmly in his stall, she went to stroke Rocky, and after a few moments, she soon began to comb her, making sure she'd brushed out every bit of the thoroughbred mare. Smiling contently, she rubbed the horses neck gently and stroked her shoulders before heading down to get her tack. Returning, Riley began to saddle her up.
"So, how long were you planning on staying out at the course?" Riley asked Kat while fitting Rocky's bridle and bit.

[Pandora!]

Kat fed the girth through the keeper, and pulled it tight. Nimbus put his ears back and snorted, but didn't move to nip. "Probably some where around an hour. Maybe less considering how cold it is." She replied, slipping on the stallion's bridle. Nimbus mouthed on the bit while Kat fit his exercise sheet under his saddle. With a final check of her spurs and helmet, she opened the stall door and lead her horse into the large indoor ring to warm up.

Kat clipped on the lunge line and secured the reins before giving Nimbus slack and clicking him on with her tongue. The chestnut horse snorted and trotted in a large circle, glad to move freely. He bucked playfully, and extended his trot even more. "Whoa." Kat called softly, pulling on the lunge rope. Nimbus snorted and collected his trot a bit, shaking his head. "Good boy." The girl said encouragingly, clicking him into a slow canter.

Riley smiled nodding in agreement with Kat before continuing to saddle Rocky. Soon the thoroughbred mare was tacked up and ready to go, already stomping her hooves as if in anticipation. By the time Kat was in the ring already, Riley was leading Rocky along the hall into the indoor ring. Stopping by the railing, Riley watched Kat as she let her horse go in a circle to warm up.

Stroking Rocky along the neck, Riley waited, making sure everything was in place. Rocky waited patiently enough but soon got feisty, flicking her long dark tail and shaking her large head. Her eyes flicked from Kat to Nimbus, and she snorted, looking to Riley from the side. Finally, mounting up, Riley stayed put, checking her stirrups, and then watching Kat and Nimbus.

Meanwhile, Riley's black and tan, german shepherd dog, Sydney was just waking up after a nap, inside the house. He soon began to trot down towards the stables, the chilly air making his fur blow. He moved along the stalls, his ears pricking at the sound of the horses snorting and tossing their heads, nickering as he passed by. The dog quickly found his way to the end of the stable and sat by the last stall awaiting the return of the girls in the indoor ring.
