Riley woke up to the sound of her usual bright and cheery tune. She turned off the alarm and sat up in bed. She smiled, reminded momentarily of the dream she had been in. She yawned loudly, getting out of bed, and slipped her feet into her fuzzy bunny slippers. She hummed to herself and twirled over to open the curtain of the Bay Window, allowing sunlight to stream in through the windows. It wasn't too long until she was ready. She sat at the Bay Window, checking the clock for Maya. It was getting late, and Maya was never late. She sighed, smiled, and checked the clock again. 7:08. "I'll meet Maya at the subway I guess!"
Riley boarded the cart and sat in a seat across from the door. She looked to her diagnol left, and giggled to herself remembering that had been where she and Maya met the final member of their friend group a little over a year ago; Lucas Friar. The subway cart soon pulled to a stop and Riley craned her neck looking for her friend.
Someone sat next to her. "'Sup folks." she heard Maya's familiar, sarcastic voice say. "That's my best friend." She said. "Where were you this morning? Everything good?" Riley looked over Maya; she seemed okay, but one could never tell...

maya chuckled softly, eyes wrinkling up slightly as she smiled. "all fine, as fine as life can get anyways," she smirked, crossing her legs and grabbing the end of her sneaker, twiddling with her shoe laces as she looked up at riley. her eyes crossed the subway station, finding the rest of her friends. "excuse me for a moment, i forgot to do something, sunshine. be right back." she patted riley on her shoulder as she crossed the shaky moving train, not hesitating in the slightest bit as she ran up to lucas and zay. "well howdy do," she smirked as she placed her hands on lucas's shoulders. "you know what i forgot to do this morning, right?" her eyes filled with mirth. "ha hurrrrrr, ranger rick!" she shouted, earning the irritated gazes of the elder members in the subway train, but she didn't care. walking back over to riley, she smirked. "all done, sunshine. now, back to what we were talking about. i was late drawing last night. life sucks at times," she shrugged.

first thought of zay in the morning? god, can't the sun shine a lil' bit less? "argghhhh," he groaned, muttering under his breath as he washed up, then changed into a simple plaid long sleeve tee and jeans, sleeves folded up as usual. opening his bedroom door, he made breakfast, then picked up his backpack, slinging it over his shoulders as he hastily stuffed his toast in his mouth. "bye mom! bye dad!" he shouted, but the bread muffled his mouth, making the goodbye sound more like, "mmm ppphhh! mfffff fffm!" climbing down the stairs as he finished the last bits of his toast, the subway train soon pulled over, and he got into it, sitting down next to lucas with the largest grin on his face as he tipped an imaginary hat to farkle, riley, and maya.

Riley smiled at Maya as she got up to leave to the other end of the subway station. She chuckled as Maya made a scene in the Subway. Her friends were really something special. She smiled at them as Maya came back to her seat and waved at Zay and Lucas. Riley listened, head cocked and eyes looking into the distance as Maya told her about drawing. "Life may seem to suck but we all have to pull through." She looked at Maya and smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "It will be better, I promise."

maya smiled, but she looked down and twiddled her thumbs half heartedly. "sunshine, it's good enough for me," she looked up to say to riley as she chuckled, jamming her hands in her pocket as she thought to herself how sucky life could be, but how much better it was with her friends, especially miss sunshine right next to her. and farkle, and zay, and lucas. on the matter of lucas... oh the ranger rick. she didn't know what she was feeling exactly for the male equivalent of riley, but she knew she had to hold it back. she had to hold it back for her, for everyone, to keep their group of friends exactly as it was. especially for riley. "so, how was your day, riley?" she finally said.

Riley smiled at Maya. She knew something seemed up but she continued. "Well it WAS pretty good, but then my best friend got all deep!" She laughed, recalling her and Maya's first date, Maya with Farkle and herself with Lucas. She couldn't tell where she stood with him now. She sighed.

"Oh crap! It's time to go!" I thought abruptly as I glanced down towards my wrist where my watch was ticking about. I was going to be late for sure. And on my first day too! I leaned on the fence rail and Shogun walked up behind me. "Hey Gunsy, I've gotta go today, I can't stay and hangout like usual. Sorry boy." I stroked his muzzle and, pushing off the fence, headed towards the house. I was already late so I was in no hurry, I figured they'd probably excuse me on my first day anyhow. I pulled open the back door and strolled leisurely into the house and was oh-so-positively greeted with a "Get your butt to school now or else!" from my mom. "I know, I know, I'm going. Love you, tell Dad I love him too if ya will. I'll see y'all later." I grabbed my keys off the counter and moseyed out the door. I hopped into my car and started the engine, I listened to the deep roar of the engine for a few moments and snapped myself back into reality. I started down the drive and then the road. I'd be at the school in no time, I don't know why my momma was so worried. I glanced down at my outfit. "Well ain't I gonna be just like a sore thumb in this city," I thought. I was dressed in cowboy attire from head to toe. I guess I should have changed after I had finished riding that morning but I didn't really think about it. Cowboy hat, check. Plaid shirt, check. Blue jeans, check. Cowboy boots, check. Oh and look at that, I still had my spurs on too. "Oh well. I guess today is the day, everyone will meet the real me...Rocky Mountain Gunslinger Girl in the flesh."

maya let out a small laugh. "i leave the life changing speeches to you, riley," she smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder, then laying her head down gently, looking up at her with a smirk. "sunshine, you do all the shining," she teased, then retracted her hand and head. their stop was quickly approaching, only a few moments away as the blinking amber dot on the little train notice board showed that they were almost there.

Riley smiled. "Everyone's got a little shine in them Maya. You just gotta kindle it."
Riley stood up at their stop, waiting for Maya to walk the remaining short distance to the school. She cleared her throat. "So, about that drawing last night..."

I soon arrived at the school, fortunately I wasn't late. Yet...I contemplated sitting in my car and waiting for school to start just so I could arrive "fashionably" (If you'd call it that) late but I figured, that probably wouldn't be a very good idea. I turned off my car, the deep roar of the engine dying to a slight purr, and then silence. I pulled the key out of the ignition, slowly opened the door and got out. I leaned in between the seats and grabbed my bag, lunch box, and water bottle, all of which reminded me that today was my first day. My first day at a brand new school. And I was alone. I had no friends, and who knew if I would really make any. City folk are much different than country folk. I guess that's all something I'd have to find out for myself. I paused, eyeing the school. It was larger than the ones I attended back at home. "Welp. I better get on in there. I have no idea where any of my classes are." I said out loud, but it was directed to myself. I slung my bag over my shoulder, placing my keys in my boot, and headed towards the doors of my new school. What was I feeling? A mix of excitement, nervousness, and hopefulness.

Paige was never happy when things involved her have to leave her cozy nest of blankets and pillows let alone before the sun was even above the horizon but just like every year before this Paige had promised herself that this was going to be a good year and being late on the first day wasn't going to help. She rolled out of bed and onto the ground and blindly grabbed various bits of clothing since most all of her clothes matched each other since it was really just a mix of black, grey, and dark red. She slipped on black tights, black denim shorts, a grey Columbus Zoo sweatshirt, and a large red flannel plus a black slouch beanie to cover her mess of hair. Paige grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder as she grabbed some money from the counter and her skateboard and made her way to school.
