Aspen struggled in the strong surge of the water, yipping helplessly. Any time now, his mother would scoop him out of the water and scold him for getting too close. Right? But where was he. He couldn't keep his head above the surface and by the time his mother reached him, his tiny legs had given out.

Lillian dived underneath the surface, searching for her pup. If she let him die, she would never live a happy day again. Finally she spotted him, far down the stream, underwater, and unconscious. She swam towards him as fast as she could.

Clover watched in horror as Aspen fell in the water, and Lillian followed after. I have to get Kaz! she thought. She began running in the direction of camp as fast as her little legs could carry her. Soon she was exhausted, but she needed Kaz's help. Finally she reached camp, and collapsed, whimpering out, "Kaz...need help...Aspen..."

Feather searched around the forest, hiding behind a tree when she saw more wild dogs near a stream, and tried to hide her scent.

Kaz had been lazily watching the other two pups as they play fighted. He heard Clover rush in. "What's wrong? What's wrong with Aspen?" He asked, standing up and running towards her. He sprinted off in the distance Clover had come without letting her answer.

Aspen had run out of breath and everything was fading, his legs were giving out on him. Finally, he fell unconscious.

Crystal saw as this was happening.
She ran towards the river and luckily she could see under water, was a good swimmer, and could hold her breath for quite a while.
She jumped into the river and swam down to try and find the missing pup.

Lillian got nearer and nearer to Aspen, but every time she reached out to grab him, a current pulled him away. Finally when her lungs felt like they were going to burst she lunged towards Aspen and grabbed him by the scruff. Her legs felt so weak, she could hardly swim to the shore. She set Aspen up on a rock, but she didn't have the strength to pull herself out of the river. "Aspen...I'm so sorry." she said and then she let go of the rock on the shore, and let the river pull her down stream. She hoped that if maybe she could keep her head above water long enough she might find a calm spot, though she probably wouldn't.

Just then she saw Crystal in the water. "Crystal, she called out, "Help!"

Crystal saw Lillian take the pup out, and decided to help her.
She swam towards Lillian. "Hold on any way you can" She said.
