Samantha is energetic, very loyal, and compassionate. While she is easily distracted, she can also get fixated on things as well. She can be skittish around new people at first, but quickly gains trust and becomes protective to those close to her. Sam wants to help people, to “make a difference, no matter how small”.
Fears: Hospitals, needles, and those evil, monstrous vacuums.
Hobbies: Spends most of her time caring for stray dogs and homeless people around the city, otherwise she can be found wandering around the city freely.
Skills and weaknesses: She is skilled in understanding animal behaviors and telling peoples’ emotions, and is very good at running away if need be. But she lacks in the social department when it comes to dealing with many people at once, is a horrible cook, and a not-so-good liar.
Overview: Sam has the ability to shift into the form of a brown dog, for some reason resembling a Border Collie, in her opinion.
How it happened: During the mishap with the particle accelerator, Sam was out feeding a few stray dogs after work like she did daily. When she spotted the explosion she grabbed the dog to protect it, but when the wave of energy hit the dog panicked and bit her.
Weaknesses: Changing wipes her out energy wise so she can’t do it repeatedly, loud or high pitched noises hurt, and no chocolate or food dangerous for dogs- she seems to have developed allergies for them. It doesn’t feel very good to shift, mostly itchy, but a little like growing pains for a short duration. She also experiences a ghost-limb effect; when turning back into a human from a dog her balance is screwed because of the loss of a tail. She worries over hospitals and doctors because she was able to find out that even as a dog, she has human blood; that could be rather alarming for a normal vet to find out.
Strengths: The ability to become a dog being the obvious one, but also improved hearing/smell/taste near to the levels of a dog while in either form. She did find a few other positive traits from dogs, like smelling sicknesses or emotions, but it’s confusing and she doesn’t really understand it yet. Strangely her vision remains that of human's while in dog form.
Family history: Samantha grew up with only her dad after her mother left them, then two months before the particle accelerator problem he moved out of the city while she stayed. She was left on her own, but dealt with it alright being an adult now at 21. She got an apartment and a part time job. She also began studying animal behavior, zoology, and quite a few science topics.
After the particle accelerator accident: She got really confused for a while, and managed to get stuck as a dog for a week before figuring it out. Her new situation prompted her to drop out of her studies and leave her job. She spent some time on her own getting used to it all, then went back out onto the streets. Stayed mostly as a dog because being a human with the improved senses was overwhelming at first.
Current life: She knows most of the homeless people and stray animals that regulate the town by name and aspirations. Works part time at a small animal shelter in town. She still has her apartment and of course uses it, but sometimes just stays in the streets as a dog when that can provide comfort for any of the homeless citizens. No one knows about her abilities; let’s just say no one has ever seen her and her dog form in the same place at once, while everyone can recognize both her human and dog forms easily.
