Code Blue! Intruder Alert!I ran down the hallway skidding as I almost slammed into a wall
*Amy: Xura! Take the red door! Shaking myself off and brushing the hair from my eyes, I continued my hurried sprint toward the door.
Level 3- intruder alert! All units converge! This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill Right. You're most likely wondering what's happening, and that's understandable, so I should explain. Where we last left off, Amy and I had taken a break. The day after, we had seen Addi and relayed the news of our failed mission- she actually took it surprisingly well (after she got a selfie with me, a second signed autograph, and an entire hour asking me celebrity-like questions). That was... Interesting.
*Me: Amy! The door is locked! *Amy: Ugh! Try the elevator down the hallway. But you may have to deal with some company So for the last week, I've been working missions. It's about mid-January, and I'd say I've gotten pretty good at this
*Amy: Why'd you have to go and get caught anyway?! Well, sort of.
*Me: Well it wasn't on purpose. I forced a sharp turn to my right as I curved the corner. Two menacing guards started after me from across the room.
*Amy: Now just like I taught you*Me: I know what I'm doingAs soon as they reached me, I swiveled across the shoulder of the one on the left, putting myself onto his back. I ducked as his partner accidentally shot him with a stun gun. I rolled away, pushed myself up and quickly kicked the weapon out of the guard's hand.
*Amy: Pressure point is on the front of the neck-I placed both my hands in the unique position needed to flip someone, but he smacked me against the wall before I could.
Me: Ugh! *amy: Watch out!I ducked as he swung a punch into the wall. Quickly, I maneuvered past his arm and pinched the pressure point Amy had alerted me to. He collapsed to the ground as I caught my breath
*Amy: Nice work. Now, elevator. Amy has been helping me train the past two weeks, and even though I'm not quite at her level, I have definitely gotten better.
I sprinted to the elevator at the end of the hall and pulled a heavy-looking claw from my backpack.
*Me: What now? *Amy: Clip it to the elevator rope. I forced open the doors, and listened for the satisfying "click!" as the device clutched the rope. I glanced upwards to see the elevator was only a few feet above me.
*Me: Is this safe?*Amy: Absoutely not. But what's the fun in safe? I let out a small nervous laugh as I strapped myself into the device and jumped onto the ropes.
Me: Geronimo! It took everything in my power to not scream as I slid downward at lightning speed. When I had nearly reached the bottom, it began to slow down. I unstrapped myself and shoved the device back into my bag as I desperately searched for another way out on the sub-levels of the building.
*Amy: Door on your rightI tried the door and let out a disappointed grunt when it refused to budge.
*Amy: Oops! Sorry! I meant my right. I tried the next door and it opened to reveal a staircase leading toward the outside. Hastily, I galumphed up the stairs and down a few blocks toward an inconspicuous cable Van. I opened the door to see Amy indulging on a doughnut.
Amy: What took you so long? I jumped in, shut the door, and we drove away.
Amy: You got the stuff? I pulled a flash drive out from the bag.
Me: All the names of Rita Mandaia's buyers, right here. Amy: Good because we're meeting the client in an hour at Francie's. Me: I'm not dressed for that!Amy: ... Good point. We should go buy some clothes. Her phone rang. she picked it up, read the caller ID, then set it back down.
Me: Aren't you going to get that?Amy: It's no one important.I glanced at her screen
Me: Really? Getting a call from Thunder isn't important? She sighed.
Amy: I've been dodging their calls since we've been on the run. Me: Why? Amy: I don't know. I just.. Don't want to go back.I gave her a long look.
Me: Amy. Have you been having fun? She pulled over and turned toward me.
Amy: Fun? Me? Yeah, right! She kept a straight face for a few seconds until a smile split across
Me: You are having fun! Amy: Oh quiet you, of course I am. I've spent the last week and a half with you and it's honestly been the best time of my life. I'm not ready to go back to work.Me: ... But Amy, you have to. Amy: And what about you? Do you just get to keep running around? We work at the same place, Ya'know.
I sighed. Me: You're right. My grandfather probably still thinks I'm gone too, which doesn't help my caseI let out another long sigh and beat my head against the dashboard.
Me: What am I going to do? I haven't had enough time to think about Shield or any of that.Amy: Well... We could always run away completelyHer phone stopped ringing, and released a sound indicating that she had a voicemail.
Me: No, we can't do that. I don't think I could do this forever.Amy: Why not? I'd estimate about twenty more jobs would give us enough to buy our own personal island with an estate. We could retire early and spend our lives in paradiseMe: Yeah, that's nice. But I have responsibilities still on my shoulders- I can't run away from all my problems. Amy: ...I admire you.Me: What?Amy: I spent my whole life running away from my problems, and here you are ready to face your's head on.She sighed as her gaze trailed out the window.
Amy: well, I suppose we at least ought to listen to the voicemail. I nodded as she played it.
Voicemail: Amy, it's Alex, you have to come back! Shield just ransacked one of our main facilities. Our superiors think there's a mole- you and Xura are the prime suspects. If they find you, it could spell trouble. Come back as soon as you can!Amy and I exchanged glances
Amy: This is bad.Me: Worse than poisonous donuts?Amy: Much worse.*
Amy: Nope. Nope. NOPE! Take off the denim, and put your hair up with something weird Me: What? Why? What's wrong with this?Amy: you have a trademark. You always show up to your client meetings with something odd keeping up your hair, and something fierce but casual. Me: Are you serious right now?Amy: Completely serious. Now go change. Grumbling, I stumbled back into the changing room. I came out like this:
Amy: Much better! Now come on, we need to finish this client meeting then hurry back to New York. We checked out the clothes, then started on our way to Francie's. I rolled the flash drive around a few times in my palm.
Me: What's going to happen when we get back to New York? She sighed.
Amy: First a lie detector test, then we're going to be searched and questioned. Believe me, it's not a pleasant experience. She seemed to be reflecting on old memories as her expression became thoughtful. Either that, or it was the way she sped up the car.
After a fear-filled drive, we parked in the lot at Francie's.
Amy: now remember, be cool. Me: Amy, I've done this like fourteen times now. I think I got it.Amy: *mumbles* you didn't have it last time. I cast her a glare as we entered the restaurant. We saw our client near the back and were directed that way by the waiter. She smiled when she saw us.
Miss Creed: Scarlett and Amy, come have a seat. The chairs were pulled back for us. I fumbled through pockets for a moment before I went to sit. I completely missed the chair because I was so distracted. Amy sighed and facepalmed herself as Miss Creed let out laugh.
Miss Creed: I see you haven't changed a bit, Scarlett darling. Me: Sorry Miss Creed, I'm a little distracted. Blushing, I scuttled into the chair.
Miss Creed: Please, call me Whitney. I'm only twenty-four, too young for that "miss" and "Madame" stuff. I adjusted my hair before pulling in the chair.
Amy: Do you have the diamond?Whitney nodded then pushed a small bag across the table. Amy pulled out a pink diamond the size of fifteen stacked pennies and inspected it.
Amy: It's realI slid the flash drive across the table. Whitney inserted it into her laptop then scanned over it quickly. She smiled.
Whitney: You certainly are as amazing as they say, Scarlett. Me: Couldn't have done it without AmyWhitney: Uh-huh. We stood up.
Amy: Enjoy your night. She gave a dismissive glance toward Amy as she turned toward me.
Whitney: You as well.We walked out to the van.
Me: Sorry AmyAmy: Nah. If I wanted, I could become just as famous as you again. She smiled. It truly did seem like it didn't bother her at all. This wasn't the first time she's been treated as second rate while we were in the run, I'm just surprised at how well she takes it.
Amy: Now come on, we have to get back to New York. Quickly.
We spent some time driving to the airport before we booked a flight. We traveled first class back to New York and it was about 2 in the afternoon by the time we got there. We checked into the penthouse suite of a hotel as soon as we arrived. I let my hair down and changed into something a little more casual.
Amy: Are you going to be able to handle this?Me: How bad can it be? Amy: Bad. And I was on the side that interrogated people.Me: Oh come on, it's not like I'm in any other organizations. She sighed
Amy: But you were, and believe me, someone else is going to get in trouble for it. I bit my lip.
Me: What other choice do I have? Amy: Run away? Me: We already said no to that.We stepped out of the hotel suite and went to the elevator.
Amy: This isn't going to be easy, are you sure?I nodded.
Me: I'm sure I'll be fine. She pressed the lobby button as I leaned against the wall.
Amy: Okay. But their methods can be a little... Intimidating. Me: How so?Amy: You'll see.The doors opened with a slight 'woosh' and we walked out. We crossed a few streets before we reached an office building called "Cloud Industries". Yeah, I know. Creative *eyeroll*
We walked in with our hair wind blown and jackets fluttering. Yup, not at all with my hair in my face and my zipper caught on my sleeve.
I followed Amy as she flashed her ID all over the place. I accidentally lost mine in a pile of dirty laundry. Don't tell anyone.
Alex: Amy! Xura! I almost didn't respond to my name because of how little it's been said the past week and a half.
Amy: Alex. She nodded at him with a smile.
Alex: Did you get my message? Amy: It's why we came backHe paused for a moment, then poked me.
Alex: Is she real?Me: what're you talking about? Of course I'm real! I'm standing right hereAlex: Well, you fell out the sky. I rolled my eyes.
Me: I hang out with Amy all the time, when am I not falling out of the sky? He smiled but then quickly frowned. He switched his attention back to Amy.
Alex: It's gotten much worse here. Sky is in charge, and we both know she has it out for youShe sighed
Amy: That isn't at all good. Have they cleaned out the offices?Alex: It's what they're doing now. They're going to start interrogations in half an hour, the best thing to do for now is lay lowAn agent: Isn't that the girl who fell from the sky? Another one: Oh my gosh! It has to be. The boy next to them: I've never seen her around beforeA blonde girl: I have. She's seen the boss's face.A brunette: Shut up! No way.An agent: She kinda looks like Scarlett HunterAnother one: You don't think-Me: I think laying low might be a problem. Amy: Inconvenient timing to fall out of the sky and then make you criminally famous. Hm.The blonde came up to me.
Blonde: Are you Scarlett Hunter?I nodded
Blonde: Can you sign my arm?She handed me a pen so I gave her my autograph.
Blonde: Eeek! It's her!She ran off back toward the group.
Amy: Now why are you doing that?I shrugged.
Me: She wanted my autograph. Besides, it's only one girl. The brunette and two agents came up near me with pens and paper.
Agent: Scarlett Hunter? Is that really you? Amy facepalmed herself and sighed as I scribbled my name across their papers.
Me: Whaat? Amy: You know what. This is going to be a real problem. Me: A problem? Or an alibi? She raised an eyebrow.
Amy: Are you suggesting-?I nodded
Amy: Oh-ho-ho! I'd say you've graduated from clumsy student in training to evil mastermind! She beamed with pride as she locked me tight in a hug.
Amy: I couldn't be more proud of you. I think I actually saw her wipe a tear from her eye as she pulled away.
Amy: So now we have an alibi. All we need to make sure of is that we stick together and-
???: Attention! We all turned our heads. Someone, presumably Sky, was standing at the front of the room. She looked like the spy version of Emma, and even had doubles of Ana and Bella behind her.
Sky: Alright you lot. One of you is a filthy traitor, and no one will be leaving today until we find out who it is. She narrowed her eyes as the tension in the room increased.
Sky: My team and I are going to divide you, and have individual-She paused to contemplate her next word.
Sky: ...Conferences with each of you. Amy flashed a worried glance at me. I knew she would do fine, but what if I broke? I was a spy for Shield, but now I'm not. Does that make a difference?
Sky: You! She pointed through the crowd at me.
Sky: What's your name?Me: Uh... XuraSky: Sura?Me: No.. Xura. Like try using a 'z' where the 'x' is. Zura. Sky: Zyura?Me: *facepalm* no. Xura. Zur-ah!Sky: Oh. So Xura? Me: YupSky: Well Xura. You're first. AHHHH! HALP! Bye diary!
