Sixteen of the top young equestrians in the world recently received invitations to train at one of the most prestigious riding academies in the Western Hemisphere- Hilltop Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Known for producing top competitors in the three Olympic disciplines, dressage, show jumping, and eventing, but this year, for the first time, they've reached out not only to six accomplished young riders in those disciplines, but also to talents of equitation, hunter-jumping, vaulting, and combined driving. Each student will bring three horses of their own and will have access to schoolmasters, along with top trainers and potential connections, fabulous facilities, and countless opportunities to grow as equestrians. They'll be competing at shows across the country and participating in events such as Thoroughbred Makeover. With a rare opportunity to train with other students from different disciplines and backgrounds, new friends will be made, new relationships formed. This is their chance- the chance for all of their hard work to pay off, a launching point for dreams to come true. The real question- will these sixteen young prodigies become the champions?

• Tess's rules always apply.
• This is a high semi-literate roleplay. This means you should be able to write at least eight lines per post. Also, correct spelling and grammar is appreciated. Writer's block is understandable, but only on occasion. Even with writer's block, you should be posting around six lines.
• By joining, you are committing yourself to this roleplay. I'm pretty relaxed about posting requirements; however, please get on when you can, post when you can, and try not to let this die!
• You can have up to two characters. They can't be training in the same discipline.
• Forms and OOC should be posted on the discussion thread.
• PM me with all reservations and any questions you might have.

Character Rules
• Make your own forms, please. They can be as detailed as you want, or just include the basics. Just note that I may be checking your posts if you are creating a short form.
• You do not have to use the premade horses; if you'd like to change them, PM me and I'll give you instructions.
• You do not have to make forms for your horses, but you can if you want.
• Please be realistic with your characters. They may be talented, but they are still young and both they and their horses have limitations. Refrain from creating perfect characters.
• If you are interested in a discipline not listed here, PM me and we can definitely work something out.
• I am not making preset genders, mostly because I recognize that the majority of equestrians are female. Of course, I'd love to see male characters, but if the ratio is uneven, it isn't important.

"Show jumping enjoys its place, both nationally and internationally, as one of the most popular and perhaps most recognizable equestrian events, aside from Thoroughbred horse racing. At its highest competitive level, show jumping is recognized as one of the three Olympic equestrian disciplines alongside both dressage and eventing. Essentially, what pole vaulting, high jump and hurdles are to track and field, show jumping is to equestrian sport."
Majé (?) - 17 years - female - -Amiga-
Mason Wells - 19 years - male - local dreamer

Image
Image
"Dressage (a French term, most commonly translated to mean 'training') is a competitive equestrian sport, defined by the International Equestrian Federation as 'the highest expression of horse training', where 'horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements.' Competitions are held at all levels from amateur to the World Equestrian Games. Its fundamental purpose is to develop, through standardized progressive training methods, a horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, thereby maximizing its potential as a riding horse."
Jolon Underberd - 20 years - male - evixtus
Alexandra Hayda - 17 years - female - Banishment.

Image
Image
"Somewhat comparable to a human triathlon, the discipline of eventing was historically developed to test the skills required of the working military mount — athleticism, agility, bravery, speed and endurance. In modern time, eventing has evolved into an exciting spectator sport and competitive endeavor attracting enthusiasts of all levels — from weekend amateur riders to international professionals. At its highest level, eventing is recognized as one of the three Olympic equestrian disciplines."
Caroline Walker - 15 years - female - eventer.
Peyton Kringler - 19 years - female - evixtus

"Although they share essentially the same heritage, combined driving differs significantly from carriage pleasure driving. Instead of placing emphasis on the style, authenticity, and pleasurable performance of a hitch, a combined driving event is rigorously performance-based and is actually modeled after the mounted equestrian test of three-day eventing. Combined driving is designed to test a horse’s or a team’s speed, stamina, obedience, and athleticism, in three distinct and demanding phases usually held over the course of three days."
Ryan Ross - 15 years - male - Starwalker123
Locota Brunsworth - 19 years - female - bugiscool

Image
Image
"Vaulting enjoys an ancient heritage and can probably be described as one of the oldest known forms of equestrian sport. Often described as gymnastics performed on horseback, vaulting’s origins can be traced back to Roman games which included acrobatic displays performed on cantering horses. Vaulting has experienced significant growth and expansion and is enjoyed by equestrian enthusiasts of all ages. All vaulting routines – team, individual, and freestyle – are performed on the back of a cantering horse, traveling in a circle and attached to a longe line."
Micheal Voldurmiir - 18 years - male - Nightra
Savannah Winters - 19 years - female - local dreamer

Image
Image
"As its name implies, the discipline of endurance tests a horse’s fitness and stamina, and a rider’s horsemanship skills, in a long-distance competitive format where the condition of the horse is paramount. Recognized endurance competitions can be 50-, 75- or 100-miles long, and all are held in a 24-hour period. Courses can include natural obstacles such as ditches, creeks, and thickly forested hillsides. Veterinary check-points are placed at various locations throughout a course to ensure that the horses are sound and fit enough to continue to the next stage."
Lucy Woodhaven - 16 years - female - Starwalker123
Runa SiiViing - 21 years - female - Nightra

"The modern show ring hunter’s roots were established in Europe when gentry rode across the countryside hunting for game. The modern show ring hunter must still exhibit the traits desired of a good field hunter— calm disposition, good manners, smooth gaits, steady way of going, and pleasant and efficient jumping ability— but must do so with style, presence and superior technique. Conformation, athleticism, disposition, and jumping form all combine to define a winning show ring hunter. A wide range of divisions and classes is offered for hunter riders in today’s show ring, both over fences and on the flat."
Jennifer Quinlin - 15 years - female - Banishment.
Sayo Hanabusa - 19 years - female - sensei.

Image
Image
"Hunt seat equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat. In over fences classes the riders are judged not only on their ability to negotiate a course of jumps on their horses, but also on their style and position while they do it. On the flat, riders are tested at the walk, trot and canter at the lower levels, and at more difficult gaits— such as strong or collected walk, trot, and canter, or counter canter and hand gallop— in higher level classes. They are to demonstrate proper riding of the horse at all these gaits, as well as accurate and stylish position."

Acoustic Misdemeanor
X
"Wilbur" - Stallion - 6 years - Andalusian
An occasionally difficult ride, but this stallion is relaxed with a chipper attitude who is attention-seeking and lovey and will whinny when you walk into the barn. If he is near any source of water, he'll jump in hooves flying, often getting into trouble playing in his water buckets and puddles.

A quiet gelding who does his job and doesn't make a fuss about it. He's a big people pleaser but large crowds make him nervous and he often needs guidance in making decisions on the cross country course.

Dancing in the Dark
X
"Luna" - Mare - 9 years - Hanoverian
A sweet but bratty mare who's constantly looking for attention, pawing constantly when she isn't getting what she wants. She's extremely fancy and talented, but spooky and doesn't know her own strength, sometimes jumping into her handler for protection from that scary thing when on the ground.

Vegas Lights
X
"Vegas" - Gelding - 7 years - Paint x Thoroughbred x Warmblood
A scopey and genuine gelding who firmly believes he should have two feet of air space between himself and the jumps and that a boogeyman lurks in that terrifying shed (or tractor or pile of dirt or whatever it may be). He's fussy and spooky in dressage at home but more focused at shows, though he does have a tendency to get nervous.

Image

Let's Dance in Hell
X
"Red" - Mare - 5 years - Thoroughbred
Only a few months off the track, this mare is fiery, moody, and often fights her rider, rejecting cues to jump or go through obstacles. However, she'll go through anything if she's pushed hard enough.

HBA Silent Howl
X
"Howl" - Gelding - 8 years - Oldenburg
A generally sweet gentleman with a hate for jumping ditches, where he firmly believes a scary boogeyman is hiding, just waiting to eat his ears. When he is in his stall, he likes to take bites of the wood and bang on his door.

Show and Lie
X
"Loch" - Gelding - 11 years - Dutch Warmblood
Only recently gelded, he still has his stallion tendencies- he'll be running and suddenly stop if he smells a mare, often sending his rider over his head and into an obstacle or to the ground. Otherwise, he is a fantastic worker and has a calm and pleasing euphoria.

A mellow, level-headed gelding. He's still green, just broke to drive a year ago, and can also be ridden.

Image

Beautiful Irregularity
X
"Beauty" - Mare - 8 years - Dutch Warmblood
Despite her young age, this mare, the right member of the pair, has a very relaxed mind set and doesn't mind having her partner lead. She is young and is quickly learning the ropes.

Sport Racer
X
"Sport" - Mare - 10 years - Dutch Warmblood
The leader and left member of the group- everything she has learned is down to near perfection. She keeps Beauty in line and doesn't like it when people touch her ears.

Chasing Robin Hood
X
"Robin" - Mare - 13 years - Dutch Warmblood
A daredevil from her tail to her teeth who never seems to tire at all and nothing is too much for her. She will not shy away from practically anything; however she doesn't always play well with other horses.

Image

Desert Winds
X
"Windy" - Gelding - 10 years - Percheron
A sensible and gentle gelding who couldn't figure out why his previous owner was trying to make him pull heavy weights and was simply not cut out to be a record-breaking puller, but makes an easygoing and smooth vaulting horse. He has a bad habit of tossing his head incessantly when he gets nervous.

Miller's Golden Boy
X
"Miller" - Gelding - 7 years - Noriker
A thickly built draft gelding who is blind in one eye after an accident in his youth. He is teasingly called dorky but he is intelligent and good-natured, and his blindness does not cause him too many problems, though he does sometimes cock his head to get a better look at things around him.

Storm Warning TVR
X
"Storm" - Gelding - 18 years - Haflinger
Your typical mooch whose always hunting for treats in every person's pocket or desperately attempting to shove his face underneath the fence of the dry lot to reach the one piece of grass on the other side. He moves like a warmblood and is fun and good-natured, easily as talented as many larger horses.

Image

Lucid Dreaming
X
"Luke" - Gelding - 12 years - Cyldesdale X Thoroughbred
An absolute sweetheart and known lover boy, famous for his cuddling sessions and gentle demeanor. He has a massive fondness for cats and loves bathes and grooming sessions with a passion.

Corinthian

Greyscale
X

X
"Chance" - Gelding - 12 years - Arabian
A remarkably easy-going gelding, one of the mellowest around. He has lots of experience, having been competing since age five.

Talented Magic
X
"Tallie" - Mare - 10 years - Arabian
A pretty typical Arab, a little wild and sometimes spooking at silly things. She did her first race at five and a half years old and has proven herself to be quite good.

Royal Poet
X
"Poet" - Gelding - 8 years - Arabian
A hyper gelding who is prone to moodiness. He's still pretty inexperienced in the discipline, having only started endurance in the past year.

Image

Lady Moon Lilly
X
"Lilly" - Mare - 7 years - Shagya Arabian
A fussy, spooky, and uncoordinated mare who isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and pretty all-over-the-place under saddle, and also prone to rear with her rider. She can be quite the mare at times, but she has to endurance to be competitive.

Lucky in Love
X
"Lulu" - Mare - 5 years - Anglo-Arab
A courageous mare, though not necessarily the fanciest or scopiest around and still very green. She's willing to take on any challenge and doesn't seem to know her own limits.

Midnight Phantom
X
"Night" - Stallion - 3 years - Mustang x Thoroughbred x Arabian
A wild, hotheaded colt whose strong head and hatred of being caught, working, and taking orders often get himself into trouble. But when he gets onto the trail and into the free open air he becomes a little more docile for his rider.

Image

Grand Duke XX of Pluto
X
"Duke" - Stallion - 3 years - Trakehner
A willing and eager to learn stallion. Though he is highly spirited and strong willed, he is a sweetheart deep down and will do anything for a rider he is loyal to.

Radioactivity
X
"Chernobyl" - Gelding - 9 years - Holsteiner
This gelding always seems to be coming up lame; he plays too rough out in the fields or acts goofy out on a ride and comes in with a slight limp. He often pulls rotten tricks on his riders, but his adorable face and tidy jumping form make it hard to be mad at him for long.

A Dose of Your Daily Blessings
X
"Peaches" - Mare - 12 years - Danish Warmblood
This mare has been with her rider since she was a small filly, so she grew up in a peaceful, un-harmful environment. Because of that, she is is very loving and loyal, doing everything in her power to please her rider.

Image

Rings of Jupiter
X
"Jupiter" - Gelding - 7 years - Dutch Warmblood
A sweet and gentle giant, this gelding finds himself as the victim of all the other horses. On the other hand, he is very capable in the show ring.

Backdraft
X
"Ajax" - Mare - 10 years - Paint
A mare in the traditional sense, she is extremely fussy and has random and unpredictable mood swings, which often lead to a pair of hooves flying in every direction. She needs a firm hand to remind her who's the boss.

Count Me In
X
"Nitro" - Gelding - 13 years - American Quarter Horse
A normally good-natured gelding with an annoying side- sometimes he decides he doesn't want to cooperate and then the person riding or handling him is in for some trouble. He will stop randomly when you're leading him or run right through your hands while under saddle if he is allowed.

Image

Vitaliy
X
"Vitaliy" - Gelding - 7 years - Oldenburg
Known for his uncanny ability to bring out the best in people, this young gelding is a good jumper but a better friend. He is sensible, kind, and highly intelligent, with extremely fast and big strided gaits, particularly the trot.

Searching for Angels
X
"Angel" - Mare - 9 years - Holsteiner x Thoroughbred
A bold and careful mare with a certain flair and plenty of scope and spontaneity that she puts to good use. She is generally pretty quiet and laid back, content to roll with the punches.

Pick a Patch for Percy
X
"Percy" - Gelding - 14 years - Paint x Warmblood
A sweet and undoubtably loyal gelding who doesn't seem to realize his rider has replaced him with fancier horses and only keeps him for sentimental reasons. He's calm enough for a beginner but still classy and rarely spooks.

Image

Foolish Lover's Tragedy
X
"Romeo" - Gelding - 4 years - Thoroughbred x Hanoverian x Ardennes Draft
Only recently gelded, this young prospect still has many of a stallion's more annoying habits. He likes to make himself known, being quite vocal and very inquisitive, sticking his nose into everything, but he also enjoys trying new things under saddle and is scopey and brave.

Petty Theft
X
"Lawless" - Gelding - 13 years - Oldenburg
A sweet, obedient but shy gelding with great manners and an even better work ethic. He'll tote around beginners but prefers a better rider who is going to give him a challenge.

Good News Everyone
X
"Dispatch" - Mare - 8 years - Westphalian
A mare who always seems to be on a mission; she's got pep in her step and plenty of forward, often too much. She's honest and listens well, but the rider has to command control over her if they want that side; otherwise she does what she wants, which is typically to rip around the ring at as fast a trot as possible.

Hilltop Farm is located in Kentucky horse country in Lexington. Its barn contains 50 spacious stalls. The stallions are kept in the right wing and the mares in the left, with geldings in the middle and scattered throughout the others. It has 6 sets of cross ties and 2 wash racks. There are five arenas, the full-size dressage arena, the driven dressage arena, the show jumping arena, the hunter and equitation ring, and the indoor arena, which is attached to the barn. The cross country course and combined driving marathon course with many obstacles extend across the grounds. For the combined drivers, there is a cones course near the driven dressage arena. There is plenty of trails, hills, and open space for endurance purposes or any of the other riders who just want an escape on horseback. A round pen is located near the barn. There are several acres of beautiful pastures. Students will be staying in two houses, one for the males and one for the females, unless other arrangements are made. They each have their own room, but will not be spending much time there.

Instructors
These trainers have all, at one point or another, been at the top of the disciplines and are some of the best instructors in the world for up-and-coming equestrians.

William Johannson
Show Jumping and Eventing Instructor
A former four-star eventer who has also competed at Grand Prix level show jumping, Will is a good teacher, though his students sometimes don't appreciate his tough, no-nonsense approach designed to push them outside of their comfort zone to find their real talent. He expects his students to put in their best efforts at all times and is known to be harsh on anyone who doesn't.

Sjors Ramaaker
Dressage and Combined Driving Instructor
After finding success in Grand Prix dressage, Sjors, originally from the Netherlands, found himself drawn to the challenge of combined driving and quickly reached the top of the sport; after moving to America, he discovered his true passion was teaching his two beloved disciplines, though he continues to occasionally compete. He wants perfection and accuracy from his students and commonly switches to Dutch when he gets frustrated.

Evelyn Chevalier
Vaulting and Endurance Instructor
Teaching an unusual combination, Evelyn grew up in France, where she learned to vault before she learned to ride, which is quite common in Europe, and competed intensely as a child before her family moved to America during her teen years and finding a new niche, endurance. Her approach focuses on positive reinforcement and finding the good things in every ride in addition to teaching to overcome downfalls, and she is often well-liked by her students.

Lauren Camp
Hunter and Equitation Instructor
As a young and still-competing top-the-line hunter-jumper and equitation rider, Lauren never runs out of things to do, but she always manages to make time for her students. She's the kind of trainer who makes friends with her students, but uses the relationship to further their riding rather than let them get soft.

Schoolmasters
These experienced horses have competed in the top levels of their respective disciplines, and they're now living in semi-retirement at Hilltop, teaching young equestrians the ropes.

Donovatio
X
"Donovan" - Gelding - 17 years - Westfalen - Show Jumper
A real saint of a ex-Grand Prix gelding, always forgiving of mistakes and extremely sweet and lovable, like a big puppy dog. He is a hard worker who seems to understand when he wins and hates to lose.

Western Dream
"Dream" - Mare - 15 years - Oldenburg - Show Jumper
A shy yet fiercely competitive ex-Grand Prix mare who'll take any jump out in front of her but finds small ones insulting. She's the kind of horse who scoots herself back under an unbalanced rider or takes a jump at a ridiculously poor angle to make up for poor planning.

Adagio
X
"Adagio" - Stallion - 15 years - Alter Real - Dressage
A relaxed and lazy stallion who has all the talent required for Grand Prix dressage and the mindset to be handled by riders who aren't ready for that quite yet. If he isn't kept focused, he's easily sidetracked, and he is horribly impatient and can't stand still for a minute in the cross ties, always pawing or entertaining himself somehow.

Athena's Armour
X
"Athena" - Mare - 21 years - Danish Warmblood - Dressage
A cranky old mare who is known to be a kicker and biter. She is a great mover despite her age and despite her bad attitude, it makes sense that she was once a Grand Prix dressage horse.

Aemulo
X
"Aemulo" - Gelding - 18 years - Thoroughbred Cross (Breeding Unknown) - Eventer
Once a fierce competitor at the four-star level, this gelding is always intense, extremely fast and known to be headstrong. He is enjoying his semi-retirement immensely and is very affectionate, especially when treats are involved.

War in the Headlines
X
"Soldier" - Gelding - 24 years - Irish Sport Horse - Eventer
Once one of Will Johansson's personal four-star horses, this gelding is highly intelligent and willing to anything for his owner (or a peppermint). He's a kindly and sensible gelding; however, even as he reaches his senior years, he continues to be a challenging ride, but a perfect one if asked correctly.

Apparition
X
"Apparition" - Gelding - 18 years - Dutch Harness Horse - Combined Driving
A brave gelding who's really a good sport about most things, though he can be quite sensitive. He's quite shy and prefers to be left alone most of the time.

Doctor Smokey
X
"Smokey" - Gelding - 24 years - New Forest Pony - Combined Driving
An experienced whose obnoxious urge to stop to eat grass every time he comes in contact with it never seemed to slow him in competition. He is a bit of a grump and his ground manners are atrocious, but he's a good mover and a machine in the marathon.

Soirée
X
"Soirée" - Gelding - 27 years - Percheron Cross - Vaulting
This massive gelding has a level head, a been-there, done-that attitude. and loves to be around people and other horses, so much so that he is often herd sour and won't leave the group if they are out riding together. However, he is so consistent and smooth that he is perfect for vaulting.

Freyja
X
"Freyja" - Mare - 23 years - Warmblood x Draft - Vaulting
This mare will lunge in circles for hours on end, but the second you try to make her do something different, she throws a hissy fit. She can be quite temperamental and is a moody mare.

Akeem
X
"Akeem" - Gelding - 20 years - Arabian - Endurance
A delicate-looking but truly tough gelding whose seen it all in his days as an endurance horse but still manages to spook at a lead blowing by. He's quick on his feet and has great stamina even as he ages.

Casper's Bunny
X
"Bunny" - Mare - 25 years - Camargue - Endurance
A curious but cautious old endurance mare who was born wild in the native Camargue herd in France but rounded up as a two-year-old and sold to an American who brought her across the sea and trained her into a successful endurance horse. She enjoys chewing her reins, so they can't dangle too close to her mouth.

Heartbreaker
X
"Heartbreaker" - Gelding - 16 years - Hanoverian - Hunter
A slow-poke but great jumper with excellent form who achieved greatness in his prime. He's not one to take care of his rider and has no objection to leaving them in the dirt whenever the move strikes.

Lára
X
"Lára" - Mare - 13 years - Trakehner - Hunter
A level-headed mare who was retired from her previous career as Lauren's hunter-jumper due to an injury and is now limited to smaller courses. She is naturally accepting of new experiences and is quite sweet and gentle.

Miracle
X
"Miracle" - Gelding - 19 years - Swedish Warmblood - Equitation
Quite possibly the girthiest horse out there, this top-level equitation gelding does everything he can to avoid getting his girth tightened- blowing out his chest, nipping at his rider, wiggling like a madman- you name it, he's tried it. Outside of that, he is sound of mind and a hard worker, always doing his best even when he is faced with things he shouldn't be capable of handling.

Onomatopoeia
X
"Whizzy" - Mare - 16 years - Bavarian Warmblood - Equitation
A charismatic and talented semi-retired upper level mare who has a tendency to stick out her tongue and become difficult the minute her rider does something she doesn't like. She's very sensitive to any tensions and it makes her very nervous, but she has all the talent if asked correctly.
