Aight: here I come.
So, I was notified of this earlier on today so I've had a little bit of time to think it over.
But as some of you remember, we've had a fanfic contest before! And we've had a poll about it for the past year (I took it down because it was old and misleading. I may put a new poll up.)
The best way these things work, with a small number of judges and participants, is to set a control on length and theme! Yes, this is going to be a small contest whether we like it or not. 20 peeps can say they're in, but only 5 of them will submit.

Having all different length requiremente and categories is gonna make judging impossible if only a few people submit. How can you pick a proper winner if only 1 or 2 people go to each category?
So the rational way to do this is to have ONE set of rules/requirements for the whole thing.
And my suggestion is that we do one-shots.
What's a one-shot?
A story told in only one, reasonably length 'chapter'.
It's the 5 - paragraph essay of the fan fiction world.
50-500 words is considered a drabble.
500-3000 words is considered a shorter one-shot.
3000-5000 words is considered a longer one-shot.

The best way to do this is to stick our min and max in the middle - and have a 1000 word minimum and 4000 word maximum one shot contest.
This is gonna make entries come in quicker and stronger, and it makes judging easier as well because multichapter stories are difficult to judge simply because of their length!!! If we want to do multichapter stories, we make a separate contest out of it.
So everyone who wants to enter, should expect to write within the same guidelines as everyone else rather than getting complicated with extensive categories.

Is everyone cool with this?
Theme can be discussed after we get past the general idea here. Theme is easy! We toss some ideas up to the poll. Length? Not a poll question. It needs to be set in stone as a basic rule right away, not a 'oh get creative and do what you want' because in the long run, it's gonna come down to what's judgable.
We're doing oneshots.
