Choices:
1: Far right
2: Far left
3: Far right
4: Left
5: Far right
6: Right
Roll says... 6: Right.
"Here," you say quietly. "Follow me."
You turn and start jogging down the right alley, ears open for danger. Thimble stays close enough for your tail to touch her nose.
This alley is completely barren, and the din of the city is supernaturally muffled. As you turn corners and weave through abandoned roads, you become more on edge. This emptiness seems almost deliberate.
And yet...
You lift your head, scanning the sky. This isn't right. There aren't even any birds here. You can catch a smell, though, beyond the tar and dust. Something like...
A shadow vanishes from one of the roofs.
"Thimble," you say, trying to keep your voice steady.
"What?" Hers quivers.
"I think we're in a trap."
"What do y-"
Something slams into you from behind. Your back leg is swept out from underneath you. Your front shoulders are pushed harder than you can struggle against. You hit the ground.
Thimble shouts. You hear paws racing towards you, but as you raise your head, a brown cat uses both of his front feet and shoves your skull into the concrete. Your vision explodes into whiteness.
"Leave him alone!" Thimble shouts.
You try to rise again. Your head slams back down into another wave of dizzying pain.
"I'm trying to keep you alive, boy," someone with a deep voice hisses. "Stay down."
"Stop that!" Thimble's pawsteps. She suddenly shrieks.
"Oh, sh- we got company!"
"Grab her, come on!"
"What about-"
"Move it!"
"GET AWAY FROM ME! NO!" Thimble's voice is raised to a scream. "GET OFF GET OFF GET OFF GET-"
Something is dragging on the ground. Her voice fades away.
"Thi..." Your head swims as you struggle to your feet. "Thimble?"
You're alone.
"Thimble!" Your legs shake. You feel like your head is upside down. "Hello?"
"I thought so," someone says.
You whip around to face the voice. The sudden movement makes you wobble hard enough to flop back onto your side.
Seven or eight cats jump down from a wall of cement that you didn't see before. One of them, a white cat with a dark face, pauses and narrows her eyes. The others stop behind her immediately.
"See, I told you," a cat behind her says.
"Yes." The leader looks at you coldly. "Not exactly prime, but it'll do."
Before you can say anything, she steps forward. She towers over you from your position.
"Greetings," she says, in a bored, clipped tone. "You are under arrest for trespassing upon declared territory. Any attempts to escape, or inflicting injury upon this platoon, is punishable by death. Follow me."
She turns and starts walking away. Two cats come and stand on either side of you.
"C'mon, kid," one of them mutters. "It'll be easier if you comply."
You stare up at them, mouth open. The one who spoke gets a worried look on his face and nudges you to your feet while the other one gives you a little push forward. The five remaining cats encircle you completely, all of them passive and stoic. You stumble along mutely, unable to get a look back at the place you were just in before it's around a corner and out of sight.
