Choices:
1: Old enough
2: I can't
3: I can't
4: Truthful
5: Lying
6: Old enough
Roll says... 6: Old enough.
"We're not exactly children," you say patiently. "I mean, maybe Thimble is, ("Hey!") but I'm old enough to screw up on my own."
Momma breathes out a laugh and looks at you from a tilted angle. "Not nearly."
Her eyes move to Scat. He gives her the tiniest, jerking nod.
"I'll hold you to that," she says softly. She inhales, straightens up, and exhales, looking at all three of you now. "Good luck, little travelers. May Mercy guide you to the safest path."
With that, she turns and walks back into the forest. Her white hide disappears like mist in the sun.
Scat is the first one to move. He starts walking northeast without looking back. Thimble is next, with one last, longing look at the forest, before she trots to catch up to Scat. Finally, you move, pulling yourself out of an unconscious pool of nostalgia. Your friends part to let you stand in the center. You take the lead, ears rotating back against your head and tail lifting determinedly.
You only look back once, a few minutes later. The beautiful glen is once again a smudge of green against a blue horizon.
